MKBHD failed his app?!? A lesson on how NOT to launch

I've been a fan of ‪@mkbhd‬ since before I can remember. And I was super excited to hear that he's finally launched his own mobile app.
But was truly surprised by the initial reactions on social media.
So here's my first impression from the app.
There's a lot to unpack in the particular situation. Mainly:
1. We have high expectations from our heroes
/ if it wasn't Marques' app it wouldn't have been so bad.
2. Being the top tech KZbinr doesn't automatically make you great at anything else
/ we can't all be an NBA all stars and go on to dominate another sport.
3. It's easy to underestimate something seemingly as simple as a mobile app
/ if you want to make something good, you need to get a few reps in before you can pull it off
4. A launch can make or break your app
/ not saying he'll never recover from this, but it's going to be tough.
5. Pricing and monetisation IS PART OF THE BRAND
/ you can't just slap on a subscription and ads just about anywhere
/ don't wan't to put stickers on your Bentley, right?
6. Learning from people who have done the thing you want successfully is a MUST
/ looking at the example of James Clear and his app Atoms which he built with Andrew Wilkinson's Metalab
/ much better product
/ insanely good execution
