Go out and get an actual AAA flashlight to go in your pocket. I paid $20 for mine and it has more than paid for itself. I use it literally every single day. It also has the benefit of being a flashlight that you can point at things instead of a floodlight to just get some light every where.

Actually, that flash makes sense for one thing: scanning documents and getting even light, as someone using a business phone might want to do. Microsoft even has their own document scanning app and that, along with video conferences, may be all this camera is good for.

Same. They looked really good actually and audio on them wasn’t that bad either. I think some reviewers get so caught up on specs and industry trends that they forget that a 2 cm bezel doesn’t ruin people’s days and neither does having a camera that doesn’t look as good as the new RED 8K cameras. For me, I use my camera for taking pictures of my work schedules and the occasional 1-off picture of something neat. Just don’t understand why reviewers don’t realize we don’t care about some of those things.

As someone said it's the thickness. You need room for resonance to have a good speaker and this is too thin to get that. That's why it has no bass and sound tinny. You can have all the y axis you want but without some z you'll sound tinny all day.

Thanks, Marques. After watching your review, I'm convinced MSFT didn't make this phone for the usual consumer. This is focused on enterprise customers. The camera is adequate for video calls and document scanning. The speakers are good for video calls. The two screens are for true work multitasking. Microsoft 365 is optimized and the price is high enough for businesses. We weren't meant to buy this to play Xbox Game Pass...only.

I agree! I can definitely see how it would help me with my studies, like taking notes during lectures, since I can also write on it with the surface pen. And it's definitely not a camera device: it just needs to be serviceable for scanning documents and for video conference. This device is and answer to a very specific question and I think most people look at it with the wrong mindset.

I personally have no interest in buying it. BUT, I do personally like the idea and concept. Samsung is trying to make a smartphone foldable. Microsoft is trying to make a "tablet" more compact. Ultimately, if I were constantly checking emails, watching conferences and needing to take notes, etc, I would go with a tablet, but this gives you the portability aspect and it makes it more favorable. Therefore, there is a place for it in the market and its strengths far outweigh its shortcomings. The problem with people looking at this is that they are looking at it as if it was meant to be a phone, when clearly its not.

Yeah, my company is going through it's annual pick a new phone time. I had this as my first choice, but will choose another Samsung I guess they're always alright. A lot of the stuff that bothered MKBHD would have no bearing on me at all. Poor camera, don't care...supposedly my S10+ had a great camera that I've probably used less than 50 times in the year. Bad battery though? That's why I left iPhone and why this will be staying on the shelf for me. It's not my money, but I still have to use it for a year and battery life is always the big winner for me.

This is a horrible review. He's been making terribly out of touch videos lately. No one's going to notice the difference in camera quality. Not 99.9 percent of people. We do not need better cameras for phone than we had 3 years ago. No one needs that shit, no one's going to notice without a side by side. Same with his mornic complaint about the specs. There's no noticeable difference in performance. You cannot tell the difference. There's nothing, zero, a phone does with the increasingly insane specs in flag ship phones. Nothing. You will see no practical difference in performance between this, and a note 20 ultra. None.

I agree. The folding screens keep having issues and they're flimsy. I've been avoiding those. The dual screen is perfect for me. The downsides are things I can live with, or things that can be fixed with software updates

Evidently you wasn't paying attention. The software hiccups? This thing cost $1400 and there is no way I would pay $1400 for this. I already had looked at the specs and seen it wasn't worth $1400. The thing is this is being sold as a phone. Example, there are people who have tablets whether Android or an IPad and those people are not really that concerned with how the pics look because they have an Android or IPhone with a good camera and uses it for photos anyways. But this is a phone and if the camera is garbage what's the use. Like I said if it was just a tablet then maybe but the software hiccups is still a no for me. Also it doesn't have enough ram for the multitasking. Samsung puts 12gb ram in their flagships and you don't hear people talking about their phones lagging any more.

I think what makes these folding devices work is when you have a display on the outside cover and can use it like a 'normal' device, but still open it up to use it as a larger or dual-screen device when you need to. For calls and quick-look tasks like checking notifications, or hitting pause on a podcast you need something on the outside that gives at least basic functionality. But if you plan to use it for more than 2 seconds, open that puppy up and enjoy using it.

All bad points are NOT deal breakers for me. From the stance of a business user, cameras and speakers are not selling points. We tend to use earbuds for conference calls. In between calls, earbuds continue to be used for multimedia listening. Same with the camera. Not a huge selling point for me on any phone. It annoys me that so much time is spent on cameras when reviewing a phone. I think this will be more inline with what Blackberry did - the target audience is the business user. Hopefully, I can find a financially logical way of ditching my iPhone 11pro so I can scoop this bad boy up. I LOVE YOUR HONEST REVIEWS

I agree. Most of this video was actually positive with some subjective points. But not really deal breakers if camera and speaker are not top priorities for you. As you mentioned about the speakers. I use my AirPod pros all the time now. Even with a flagship iPhone and iPad. Why? Because of privacy and easier to hear details vs cranking up the volume. Even my teenage sons use headphones 99% of the time. As for it being a first gen product I totally agree with his video as it’s a start to a great idea and even he mentioned how productive one can be with it in its current state. And that’s without the current updates it has now. I don’t own a Duo yet. As I’m waiting for my trade to be available but am really considering it. Also to note. Microsoft is releasing updates for the Duo. So hopefully the software bugs will be addressed. I’m following it on Duos Reddit to keep up to date.

I know that this is uncommon in review videos but I would love to see how it fits in women’s pockets as opposed to men’s. I see it sticks out a little in your pocket which makes me think it won’t find in mine at all. If a phone can’t fit at all within my pocket that would certainly impact my decision to buy it. Knowing I would have to bring a bag even in a run or just to go quickly in a store would make a difference. If you can, please try to include this in future reviews. Women are 50 percent of the population and we love cool new tech too! I love your videos! :)
