“Don’t be a fan of the company, be a fan of the individual product.” This line hits hard for me because I think I’ve always judged a product by its company (eg. apple, and even movies like Marvel), and this advice is really helpful for me to fix that bad habit.
@Leanzazzy
@Leanzazzy 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I used to like Samsung but they're not worth the price (far better alternatives like Xiaomi and Oppo out there) and Samsung has also forced a lot of their own proprietary apps and if you root the phone, you lose access to nearly all of them. Exynos is also way worse than Snapdragon (always has been, but the divide is getting much larger). If you choose a Snapdragon version (usually a US version) your phone comes with a locked bootloader, which locks you out of so many things. There is a Chinese variant with Snapdragon and it has an unlocked bootloader, but good luck trying to get your hands on that.

The alert slider and oxygen os were the only reasons I bought the 6T in May 2019. Still going strong with no trouble at all and don't intend to upgrade this year either. When buying it I didn't expect that the Alert Slider would be much of a use for me. But how wrong I am. I use it multiple times a day now. So useful that I don't even need to see the phone to just silent it or mute it.

Flipping and pop up camera phones were so unique, but alas, outside the OnePlus 7 and Oppo Reno 10x Zoom (phones that I still consider peak smartphone design), not enough of them sold well enough for it to become mainstays outside the Asus ZenPhone Flip series, but even then it’s Asus, they’re known to go against the grain (mini phones, gaming phones, flip camera phones, dual screen laptops)

OnePlus 10T is the perfection of 10. It destroys Samsung completely. MKB's quality has gone downhill worse than OnePlus. This is a fucking gaming phone and it doesn't look like one. Genshin Impact on this is ridiculous. There are no throttle over here, unlike every single Android Phone. Nobody gives a damn about a fucking slider that's irrelevant nowadays. This Phone goes back to what made OnePlus OnePlus, make the best phone with a competent camera.

10T is the best Android prone out there. Hyperfast charging with great performance. The camera is a masterclass and there is so little difference between the current flagship phones. Marcus has lost his way, he is now generic. The old Marcus would be complaining why phone makers are purposely bottlenecking their own products. The Hasselblad software has been hacked to a 10T and proven to work. It destroys 10 Pro in the main camera, in fact aside from niche shots, 10Ts main camera is far superior than the entire camera system of 10 Pro. It just shows how companies are bottlenecking their own products so they can sell a shittier quality "premium" product.

My first OnePlus phone was the 9 which is what I am writing this on currently. I switched from a Samsung s20+, and I definitely noticed a performance improvement and the operating system on the 9 works well for me. I have all the features I need in a phone and it was free with my phone carrier. I'm finding it hard to dislike this phone, and I think upgrading to a 10T would just disappoint me since I'll actually be losing wireless charging AND the awesome little alert slider! The 10 pro may be a good phone, but I think if I get that phone then I'll never get another OnePlus phone again, since the rest after that will just gradually get even more generic. I'll probably just stick to the 9 for now since it just seems to work absolutely fine.

The best phone I've ever used was the OnePlus 6T. I had it for 2 years and there were no slow downs, no battery degradation, and the experience just kept getting better. But then OnePlus changed. They got rid of Oxygen OS, and started to betray their original values. I ended up switching to Apple. No other Android phone did it for me. I think the reason of removing alert slider is to cut the price off by making similar phones in all three companies (Realme, Oppo and OP) so they could use some of it's or most it's parts to make another phone in future from another company with similar design and similar specifications but cheaper price and that bumps up their margins and market share for quite a bit.

The alert slider is probably the most underrated feature on a smartphone. Next to a notification LED, it is one of the most useful tiny features on a phone. I want to upgrade from my 6t, but keep realizing I'll have to ditch the alert slider eventually.

To be noted that the 4 years of Software Updates are actually 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of Security Updates. A stepdown from Samsung for example, which is offering 4 years of Android updates to their S22 line. I don't know why the reviewers are not mentioning that. It's pretty relevant in my opinion.

it's relevant but because they're switching phones every new release they don't care too much. They just throw in whatever the truth was the last time they looked it up for the people that want to know, but since their audience is so big, most of them don't care

I got my first flagship ever, OnePlus 6, and it's been great experience. I'm using it since April 2019 (I bought it after one year because I wanted it cheaper), and just the only 2 major thing bug me - the battery obviously, and the cameras. The screen is also kinda dim, but whatever, and the latest Oxygen OS 11 update was a tragic crash. Other than that, it's great. Now I only kidna regret I didn't get something cheaper earlier and went for the release of 7 pro, which my friend got on release, and that phone was the pinnacle of OnePlus. Minus the jack of the jack.

I changed my 7T Pro battery when I replaced my screen and the difference is night and day, my lord! Really recommend, as long as you have the proper tools for opening the phone, replacing the battery is cheap and easy. I got the battery and tools from iFixit and the 7 series are getting Android 12 later this year. I'd already be using Lineage if not for the massive downsides of using it on this specific device.

I was actually liking the phone a lot until you mentioned there was no alert slider. I love flat screens, I love chrome rails, I love the way the camera looks and the way the back looks. I actually thought the color science from hasselbrad was worse than the original 1+ I had at the time (7t) and think that 1080p is perfect for that size (better battery life) as the 1440p at that screen size is virtually unnoticeable except for when you do a frame-by-frame, side-by-side with a 1440p phone. But the phone having no alert slider...that's a dealbreaker for me. The alert slider is the kind of functionality that I use multiple times a day when I go from waking up to studying to having lunch to working, etc.

What it looks like to me is that them removing the alert slider is the confirmation that the OnePlus we once knew is officially dead, and the corporate generic trash era is officially ushered in. Like we've obviously known for a while now that OnePlus has fallen off, but this is the nail in the coffin. That alert slider is more important, at least to me, than most realize. That was the symbol of the company and it represented something that we used to love about OnePlus....it's uniqueness. It being gone makes it indistinguishable from any other mobile device on the market now. Its sad, but it's time to move on from OnePlus. It was fun while it lasted... On a side note, i still sometimes wonder were it went wrong. I personally think it started pretty much when Carl pei left the company. I'm assuming he was the brains and creativity of the company, so it makes sense why all the phones went generic after he left (he left a few months after the OnePlus 8 lineup released, for reference). It also makes sense when you look at his new nothing brand and see how unique and interesting that is too.

Despite everything being said about Oneplus, I'm still looking to upgrade to the 10T from a LG K51. So I'm just above the bare minimum now, with the only concerns going in is that I keep hearing of downgrading OxygenOS to ColorOS and the alert switch. Which hopefully if the 11T comes and it has a switch, I'll already be in their system for a trade in. Until then or if it doesn't have it, I'll just cover it with software.

The alert slider/mute switch is convenient. No doubt. But the downside is you kinda forget to un-mute it, and timer/location based mute/dnd software feature is more useful and render these switches obselete. For me I use to love it, but i don't miss it now.

I was recently at the NYC event helping them out with product demos... I can tell you a couple things that I had insight into. They still have the partnership with Hassleblad but haven't used it on this phone (I think they want to reserve it for the Pro models only). Also, the alert slider, they did say there wasn't space for that with the batteries and charging tech, but they have already worked on it and have probably found a way to have both for the next generation. I don't know if there's any other reason as it isn't the first time a feature was removed and came back; it generates media attention I guess but I can only speculate whether or not this is the case.
