As an artist I think a 50/50 split is reasonable considering the audience Marques can bring to the art, and the work it takes to make an app. The tagline is "transform your screen into an art gallery with curated wallpapers." He is trying to make this more than just random wallpapers you can download for free from the internet, rather a way to connect and support with artists. That said I do think the subscription model is not the way to go. It seems like people would be happier to just pay a small one time fee for access to some nice quality wallpapers, and that is actually also an option on the app too.
