Only downside, for some, is the 50kw max charging rate.

@Tyler-z8r23 күн бұрын
@@InuranusBrokoff Not for cheap EVs Used Model 3s are basically $10k more than a used Chevy Bolt. You can argue it's worth that much more, but I would argue that a Bolt with 225-250+ miles of range for $15k is the best deal for any EV ever. Even if you're making $100-$120k per year, you should not be justifying car purchases in the $40k price range. So new Teslas are really not justified for you. Unless it's a really cool car, like a sports car type thing, there is no reason to buy a luxury-priced vehicle unless you're making at least around 160k USD/year. Entirely dependent on what COL area you live in though. $160k in NYC absolutely does not justify buying a nice car (though, owning any car in NYC is stupid). Like I don't want some shitty, bottom of the line, used Tesla when it's still going to cost me $25,000. If I'm going to buy some shitty, bottom of the line, used EV $15,000 is WAY more justifiable.

I had an interesting take on this truck. I am a Rivian R1T owner, but had one of these for a 2k mile road trip. First I will say, this thing really does get range for days! So much starting range! But thats where my love affair ended.... I was never able to get more then 180Kwh out of any chargers and I mean dozens of chargers most rated to 350Kwh. I averaged around 140-160Kwh while charging. Not bad and palatable in most vehicles... But in this vehicle... Where I was averaging 1.6M/Kwh @75 MPH on all seasons, not AT's I had to spend A TON of time charging. Im sure if you can get this thing up to 300Kwh while charging this will be a super impressive vehicle, but with todays charging infra this truck is only impressive for road tripping when road tripping is within 450 miles of your house. Chevy also REALLY needs to figure out how to rate the ac in the cabin while charging with todays software it automatically derates the charging curve to keep the cabin cool, meaning I had to spend an hour and a half in a Walmart 6 times because with the AC turned on and set to 62 with it being 91 outside, it derated to 75Kwh.... My Rivian on public charging tends towards the same 150-200Kwh and does get more rarely, but the battery is near half the size and even on All Terrain's at 75 mph I am seeing 1.9 M/Kwh, on all seasons I see 2.1 m/kwh which means the miles go further and im charging less. This truck would be Steller if the charging infra was actually there to support it. Also I have to say... After 2k miles I had a TON of rattles, all on-road, is that just GM quality these days?

@BryceCzirr-jz7juАй бұрын
I work at the Spring Hill EV plant and they currently build the LYRIQ. It and the Acura ZDX both use the same batteries and amount of cells. Each car gets 12 cells, I believe the Silverado gets double the amount of cells to around 24 per battery. So the range isn't shocking honestly.

Can I get an EV truck that isn't $100k please? Good lord, that's just an absolutely insane amount of money to spend on a depreciable asset.
@lonerider68Ай бұрын
It is a *lot* of money for a vehicle... but as you said it is depreciating asset - and over the last 60 years 75-82% of Americans buy used. So what about buying a used EV truck? After 2-3 years it's depreciated 30-40% (once the EV drops below $25k, there is an additional one time $4k federal used EV credit as well). Obviously 40% off 100k is still 60k (which is still a lot) however with the large battery capacity on this you can only charge to like 60% SOC for daily commutes and increase the lifespan (15-25 years estimate) by like another 20-60% so potentially this EV after 5-7 years (where it's down to 30-40k) might still be a good buy (we'll have to see).
@jonq8714Ай бұрын
@@lonerider68 $60k is still too much for me to spend on a vehicle. That's still almost $1,000 a month. Stupid money that's far better off in my 401k than flushing down the toilet.
@lonerider68Ай бұрын
@@jonq8714 It's true that you should always have you 401k maxed before basically any other purchase or "upgrade" a vehicle. However, if you are even consider buying a new vehicle (where the *median* price is over 40k, meaning half of all new vehicles sell for that or more)... you should probably already have your 401k (and perhaps your 529 plan) maxed out. That being said, my previous gas vehicle was 26k out the door... but at 20 mpg combined and requiring premium gas, I paid around $25-30k in gas after driving it for 180k. My BEV got unlimited lifetime free charging at DC chargers and I also get free charging at my company office. So for around 80k miles - I really haven't paid to charge it - that's like $13-16k worth of gas. Obviously that was a particularly good deal (ontop of getting $7.5k federal EV credit and 2.5k state credit) - but there are some EV incentives where you can get like 3 years free charging which won't make will never make a 100k car affordable.... the original Rivian R1T were $60k after fed EV credit and after 3-4 years the will be below $40k - still a bit of a splurge, but less of one (if it means your payload, range and towing needs as BEV of today in general don't fit those use cases well).
@lonerider68Ай бұрын
@@jonq8714 To be sure, you should always be maxing out your 401k (and your 529 plan if you have kids) before doing any type of luxury or upgrade purchase as in the modern world, owning asset (e.g. stocks and homes) it the primarily way to rise up to the upper middle-class (for better or worse - this type of wealth accumulation is causing huge wealth disparities) However with the Jan 2023 median vehicle price above 40K (ie half vehicles purchase were 40k or higher) - I think most people who are buying a new vehicle (let alone a new EV) should be doing that anyway. A plug-in hybrid might be the best option for many people looking to buy something right now. Just like with regular car buying.. it might help to go for deals. My previous gas car was $26k in 2007 (that would $40k today when adjusted for inflation). But over 180k miles at a terrible 20mpg (it was suppose to be 25mphg but it underperformed with a roofbox) and premium gas, it probably cost me $25-30k in gas. The BEV I got afterwards had federal $7.5k EV rebate (as of jan 2024, that rebate now the full 7.5k even if you owe less than that in taxes, and you get it immediately on day of purchase) and 2.5k state EV rebate and I got free DC fast charging for the lifetime (there are still some deals like that available) of the vehicle and my company office has free 240V charging - so I haven't paid much to charge it over the last 80k miles, which would be about $13-16k in gas. None of that makes an EV cheaper than it's combustion equivalent, but it narrows the price gap over time. For instance the original Rivian R1T was $61k after EV rebate and after 3-5 years that is down to $36k-40k (2-3 year old Chevy Bolts are below $15k now). Of course all of these still have been caveats as no BEV today really handles towing very well (unless you call paying over 100k to get a triple size battery a solution).

I like it a lot and the 16’s camera is surprisingly accurate. All those bells and whistles are pretty impressive but it looks really low. What kind of approach/departure angles can one expect? What would be the feasibility of adding a lift kit to an EV?-a very popular option here on the big island of Hawaii
Can't really call the Tesla a truck. It's completely non-functional as a truck; it loses 20% range when the tonneau is open because of the ridiculous shape. Because of the angles, you can't really throw anything in from the side, only from the rear. Which also makes it really difficult to even use the decent sized bed(anyone shorter than 6-0 can't reach anything mid/far back in bed without getting in the bed).
@danharold3087Ай бұрын
Your funny. The cybertruck get 10% more with the cover closed because it has the factory cover. The ridiculous shape makes that 10% possible. You will not see that improvement with other pickups. I have been hearing this " you can't really throw anything in from the side," from people who have never owned a 1/2 or 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive pickup. While you can "throw" things in, the boxes are too far up in the air to let you reach in and get stuff back out. I have a 1/2 K1500 and I can pick stuff up just along the box wall. I imagine if one has a 1/2 4WD from the F100 era you can reach in. I know the 1973 IH 4WD I used to drive was much lower.
