That 45 degree angle thing will be amazing for educators like myself. When I teach, I need the webcam and I need to write on my screen. On the normal laptop mode, the screen wobbles, and my hand really has to reach in to write. If I use the tablet mode, I can write stably, but my webcam can longer see me (just up my nose). Genius!

I think this method of converting from one form to another is great! As a student, I have a two in one laptop and i use the writing feature a lot, but i have to flip the laptop everytime and have my keyboard face the table surface which makes it dirty or just feels weird. This alternative seems great and more versatile.

I don't think so. Notice how the screen doesn't stay totally flat on the table because there's a slight incline? Not everyone's gonna like that angle. Want Portrait mode? Well with this you can't, because the incline is now side to side thus you can't use the device vertically like paper because of a 'see-saw' like effect. Also battery life is only 6.5 hours according to Mobiletechreview channel. Students looking to do Digital-Note-Taking should look into other devices probably. This is more of a stationary setup for creatives and engineers.

Well I really love the laptop for a specific reason and this is the movable scrrren. The screen becomes particullary important when you work from home and want to whiteboard something in an online meeting. A normal laptop screen is always bouncing a bit and this one just stays and you can switch inbetween classic and whiteboard sessions wiht a simple move. Great device.

I am an artist and this is my take. It is not the best, but tbh, this video doesn't give it enough credit, however, my take is on the second generation, which I got a month before Christmas. here it is: They made the second generation of this laptop. I have it and I thought I would regret it, but it is worth it for anyone as a first laptop with dedicated GPU if you want a stylish computer and build quality that can last. The second generation comes with the i7 - 13700H and the RTX 4050, with up to 64 gigs of "LPDDR5X" and 2 terabytes of storage.... but for quite a hefty price. I only ever had it spin up the fans at 80% speed 2 times, and both times for less than 5 minutes, and I have also been using it for about a month now, using it every day. There are better laptops out there, but they are at a steeper price, and the most powerful laptops make you look like a child with all the RGB. I have nothing against RGB, I just think it makes more sense with an actual build, like a pc. RGB is supposed to make your build more legendary.... a computer is not a build, it's bought. The third generation of this laptop is actually being made with the RTX 3060 ti, according to some rumors. I actually use the "Stage mode" or what is actually called Studio Mode for videos almost 90% of the time. I am an artist, so I use it for art as well, because the main benefit is that in Studio Mode, or Table Mode, you can more easily move the screen and device into the right position. Studio Mode allows you to move the screen closer to you as well. As for my Studio laptop with the i7 and 4050, it has zero issues running Lightroom classic, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Clip Studio Paint, an art app that is as heavy or even heavier than Adobe Premier Pro. When I am running two or all of these applications in many combinations at once, the most I get from the fans is a constant spin up that is literally quieter than a whisper even on my lap, on the couch, where it gets warmer much quicker. I appreciate Brownlee's review, but with 10 minutes, this doesn't even give the device a single chance. But this is just how I think of the video. I use it for Adobe Premier Pro 4k video editing with 100% smooth 4k video play-back, something that is quite a heavy feat to execute. I will be using Adobe Animate for one of my classes in Web Development, soon, so I will be back with an update about how it handles animation. HOWEVER, I have enough confidence it will handle animation exceptionally.

In the second condiguration it's perfect for consuming media specifically in hotels and perfect for on airplanes where space in front of you is limited. I can't open my Surface Book all the way on a plane tray. And in flat mode I'd use it for taking notes. I use to use my Surface Pro for notes all the time, but stopped using my Surface Book for notes cause it's too big as a stand alone tabliet. so this new three way config is perfect for my use. @@alannt7 I'm a teacher. Whiteboard is big and sturdy. You use your hand and shoulder to write on it. You stand next to it. It's very different biomechanics. When you write or draw on something this small you need to put your palm on it and it should withstand the weight of your hand. If we are talking about a sturdy easel that can hold it then I would agree and say that it's okay, not everyone likes them, but it's okay. I own a Surface Book 2 and I've tested many other convertibles, none of them can be used comfortably without a descent rigid stand that you have to buy separately. (That's why nobody rushes to replace their drawing tablets amongst the professionals.) But this kinda eliminates the whole purpose of having these angles and features in a convertible in the first place. If I could go back in time I'd have rather bought a normally spec'ed laptop and a drawing tablet like Huion or Wacom with a screen and a stand.

I'm thinking of replacing my Surface Book 2, and I'm considering this. The hinge on the Book sometimes disconnects the GPU and causes programs to crash, and I think the bottom battery is shot and the top battery might be starting to swell. I had a Sony VAIO Flip back in the day which was exactly what the Surface Laptop Studio is today, but ahead of its time. It was essentially a Surface Pro 3 in a different formfactor. The pen had a bunch of input lag, and the 16:9 ratio wasn't ideal. I do like how it had an actual ethernet port though and a decent keyboard.

I am using Surface Book 2 from more than 2 years now and i would say that they always design Surface range with so much brilliance. Usually, people who sketch use it in a 45° angle to add detailing in sketches. I am a designer too and i do set my laptop on certain angle to have access to all my work boards & work. I guess 45° is not for everyone but definitely we can make most use out of it, for people who just use laptop's for worksheet, watching videos etc may use it just to scroll the screen.

I bought the v2 and can say this laptop is a DREAM come true for me, a 2D hand drawn animator, 4K video editor, and After Effects compositor. Love any reason to get away from my desktop, and this gives me that. I don't have to carry my wacom tablet and/or iPad around with me. For years I'd been wishing Apple would make a macbook pro with a touchscreen as good as the iPad Pro. Enter the Surface Laptop Studio 2. Very happy with mine so far (though it admittedly was pretty expensive... worth it for me though)

Honestly if I had the money I'd love this. I have a surface book 2 and I would totally use normal mode regularly, "studio mode" for watching videos on the bed or something, and the face down mode for drawing mode. I like the Surface Book 2 I have right now but when I have it flat it disables the main fan because of where it's placed and it gets too hot, and when I have it flipped to act like a stand it's very close to pressing the power and volume buttons.

As a student that loves video games it’s the perfect device for me. It’s perfect to take all kinds of notes. I often shift from writing with the slim pen to writing on the keyboard. It’s perfect to play games with an XBOX controller in the 45 degrees angle. Had to do some editing too and it works perfectly. It’s truly amazing!

I would be great if the screen could be rotated into any position after getting detached from its familiar position. That way one would switch between the portrait and the landscape mode. The portrait mode would be especially good for taking notes.

Actually, Sony (when they still had VAIO) made a laptop that had this form factor like, 6-7 years ago! It was called the Sony VAIO Z Flip. I would know; I used one haha. It's definitely a nifty form factor for artists!

Sony's always ahead of their time. Sadly, they don't know how to advertise themselves properly and this has cost them lots of money and customers. They seem to do pretty well though with their play stations and TV's.

Easel mode is perfect for when you need the screen and not the keyboard, like when you're watching shows or playing a game with a controller. It brings the screen closer to your face for watching and hides the keys so you don't accidentally press any keys and disturb your viewing session. It also makes using the touch screen easier since vertical isn't the most efficient way to use it. Look at apple; They still don't even have a touch screen for their laptops because their reason is that vertical isn't conducive to it.

I have a laptop like that. The middle position is very useful for me when I want to take notes from a video. As I don't have a very large desk, it can be hard to fit the laptop with its screen in the right angle in the classic laptop mode.
@MishaAmashukeli3 жыл бұрын
Another cool use-case for the middle position is when using a laptop stand + external keyboard: I find the regular laptops to be a bit too far from my eyes when using like that, but this would be at a perfect distance.
