This Video uses 5 performance clips to highlight the use of multiple hihats for melodic and rhythmic-feel purposes. I am either part or full composer on all of these songs ASCAP

I just marvel at Mike’s drumming. I think I’m a pretty good drummer after 44 years of pro playing shows, jazz, and big band. I look like a child next to this guy. I saw him live and had my jaw v on the floor. Bravo!

@boendahbandofficial862827 күн бұрын
@donnie_engz27 күн бұрын

Mike, your work has transformed my playing. Years ago, I made changes to my kit to enable me to make use of the "ride sources" approach that you've used for years. Whether it's different rides, hi-hats, stacks or splashes, your approach has opened my eyes to the massive variation of sounds and textures that can be built into a drum track. Thanks so much for your work with Dream Theater, and for your dedication and energy.

I don’t know… I understand the idea from different hihat sounds. But I’m not shure if you can notice a difference in a musical context especially when they are closed. I also like to play with 2 hats. A main and an open X-Hat.
@sarcasticguy431119 күн бұрын
It's interesting but nobody is ever gonna hear that if there's more than just drums and without a video most people wouldn't even realize there's multiple hats, especially FOUR. There's a reason some of us just hit a different part of the hat to make different sounds.

This might be a strange take, but i have to say hearing hi hats coming from different sides in the stereo mix makes it sound like some idea that a non-drummer pulled out of his ass and programmed on a vst without thinking if it makes any sense with an actual drumkit. I don't know if its a result wirth achieving, and it feels pretty unrelatable. Anyway you're successful so nore power to you. greetings!
@sarcasticguy431119 күн бұрын
Drum panning just sounds confusing to me while listening to music. In my OPINION it detracts from the song when they use weird stereo tracks and I wonder if it's done because they don't think the song is any good and needs "pizzaz". Panning multiple guitars or keyboards is one thing but bass and/or drum panning is really weird.
