So what was the point of the ending we did all that and he's just asleep inside the stone? Like we don't get to see him take up the new mantle or anything? It makes it feel like the journey of playing thr game was pointless....I don't get a feeling of satisfaction or accomplishment what so ever.

In the wiki it says as long as you defeat Erlang as an optional boss fight the Destined One will fully become the incarnation of Wukong, free from the Celestial Court, and lives as he sees fit.

@@ElBandito Yes...but we don't really see that in the game...that's my point...they could have show this and I would have been totally satisfied with the ending of the story...the lack of a real ending is why I made my comment we spend all this time for what feels like nothing this huge grand journey to be hit with what feels like a "The End" written on a piece of paper then credits. A game that took them years to make for a dogshit lack luster ending.

If you collect all the relics, the protagonist becomes the complete incarnation of Wukong. If you only collect 5, you won't have his memories and will accept the crown that makes you submissive to the gods; Wukong was immortal by eating a special fruit and he himself erased his own name from the book of life and death. He planned to die to divide himself into relics and when he was reborn he would not have the crown. So he would be completely free
