Pikachu main here, trying to give informative MU knowledge and counterplay: Its a common set up, read a jump out of shield with fair and then fall with nair because the opponent thinks he’s safe to drop shield or jump because he whiffed. Counterplay is just keep holding shield or roll in. Roll in is actually pretty safe in this situation since pikachu won’t have much that he can follow up with and anything he can won’t kill you. Holding shield might actually be riskier since nair can shield poke. Of course don’t roll in preemptively, react to the fair above your shield and youre good. But yea, its a pretty annoying set up. One way to actually punish it is knowing this is a common set up and uair him, timing it as he goes into the high fair. This is a commital option tho and can be baited, and if you have a tjolt coming your way then you’ll have to deal with that too Honestly, MKLeo doesn’t seem very familiar with the MU and fell for a lot of easy common Pikachu stuff like the last clip of the last game which is not true on di out. Someone with more knowledge on the MU will probably be able to avoid the nonsense Pikachu can get so I wouldn’t say these are the most broken things about him That being said, I don’t think it’s as nasty a set up as other ledge trapping characters so this isn’t a specificly necessary change to Pikachu. If anything should be nerfed is his tininess and pancaking since it literally changes how people play vs you since youre so small.

Sure, Pika is busted. But Esam is so technical and precise. Pikachu being as good as it is gets so much more out of a phenomenal player like Erick. Pikachu is still pretty light in a Meta where every top player has great kill confirms. So it still is a great achievement even if you think like me that Pikachu is the best character. Any error can get you killed. And honestly there aren't that many successful Pika players because the character demands a lot of commitment.

I think the option vs pika could be continuing to warm up the joker since it will be hard but it looks doable and maybe aegis as well yes aegis loses but she can do decent sometimes and is warmer than the joker rn plus she just a good char. Byleth v Pika is really awful tho even worse than I was expecting (mu wise of course)

As a mostly Melee guy it's a joy watching characters and players that excel offstage, like ESAM and Leo. Edgeguarding is one of the best things in Smash imo but it's rare to see recoveries contested in Ult for some reason

The performance of ESAM in the tournament was just the result of thousands of practicing hours on the modded training room (literally a training time of 18 months). It's just like the guy in college you know is gonna get a perfect score in a test just for overstudying. I'm not praising the guy at all it's just that his obsessive behavior to know every single technical aspect of the game is scary and his run in the tournament proves it.

They didn't pop because esam is using a Pikachu. They know he would win against Byleth. The speed difference and combo game for Pikachu is just so easy to master. Byleth is harder to master and when MkLeo used his Joker it was a closer game but he was being rusty. Also the last match Leo was playing it just seem like he wasn't having fun like he was in some of the other matches.

Easier said than done. Charge shot is a fast projectile unless you read every move your oponent makes, you cant really rely on using rebel's guard against charge shot. Too much big risk.
