Baiting out preemptive Shield Arts to force Nicko to burn it early, knowing just what Nicko wants in a Shulk combo (to get a free Rebel’s Guard), overwhelming Shulk with fast hitboxes, and stalling out the Smash Art ledgetrap with the Grappling Hook. Nope you're pretty much right. Shulk's aerials come out pretty late compared to moves by Joker and other top tiers, so he can be overwhelmed easily.

Not really. That’s part of it but there’s people that put just as much time, sometimes even more. Tweek is known by many to be tirelessly playing and practicing for hours but he’s not nearly as efficient as Leo. Leo’s special edge comes from mentality.

After mastering whatever it is your doing (10k hours) it comes down to doing homework on your opponents. either way they need to pound some hours on watching other peoples play style as well as extra hours for the .0001 techniques and microbspacing

What is up with pro players rarely using backslash? We get that it's punishable but it can still help you escape many situations and do great damage and knockback. Nicko didn't use it once

It's too slow, and the risk reward for backslash isn't worth using it, because if it whiffs you're going to eat a ton of damage. Also it's a terrible escape option.

Using that move is TERRIBLE against a good joker, let alone Leo. Even backslashing to the ledge would be bad because Joker can just rebel's guard or counter it.
