ML63 AMG (W164, M156) Oil Change (and Trailer Hitch Footage)

PSA: I jacked up the rear of the car to drain out all the oil, but I lowered it before re-installing the drain plug! It doesn't seem like it on video but trust me, I did.

Hey man I just purchased a 2008 ML63 from copart and it has 66k miles and it's a 1 owner. No salvage title or anything, Carfax was clean and the car had minor scuffs and scratches. I paid $9,200, but the only downside is that I purchased the car sight unseen from California. It says the car is a run and drive and no visible check engine light. Do you think I did good? and what mechanical problems should I worry about?

IM doing my 180,000 mile oil change on My Ml63 tonight!!! I have only used Mobile 0-40 European Formula. When I bought mine it had (and still does) have rattle from loose camshaft adjusters on startup. I tried the Liqui Moly and the engine made a horrible horrible sound when running for a few seconds on that green stuff to the point where I immediately did an engine shutdown and drained and repoured fresh Mobile. Ive had it since 162,000 miles. I love this Truck!! Still no engine issues. Although trans is starting to buck in first gear when flooring it.

One of my fav features of Mercedes is the oil change from the engine bay. Highly recommend getting one of those vacuum excavator 10 quarts + or even just a cheap electric pump, to pump out the oil from the top. This is how they do it at MB dealerships.

I really could use a vacuum pump, would help w a few things besides the oil changes too

What about draining the oil cooler? Your's doesn't have one? Mine is 2010 with oil cooler, a good amount of oil comes out the cooler.

Good question! To be honest I'm not sure if it has one...probably does though, now that you mention it. I'm just learning as I go, maybe someone else can help me out here. Either way, I measured the oil that came out and put the correct amount back in, so it might not be 100% changed but it's close. Good enough for me since I do oil changes more frequently than I have to anyway

@@monumentauto check your front bumper, passenger side, and you will see a square opening with a draining plug. That is for the oil cooler, and you will be able to drain approx. an additional litre of oil

Its better to turn on the car first than check the oil level so the filter fills up✌🏼

Good tip! Yeah I checked the level first before turning the car on to make sure it was safe to do so, then turned it on and let it run a little, then checked again 👍🏼 I’ve learned now that if I post a video like this, people want alllll the little steps shown haha

Did you notice he didn't install the oil filter and already start pouring oil 😀😃

I poured the new oil in the oil filter housing bc I didn’t have a funnel and it’s a bigger opening than the typical oil fill hole. Since the filter is on the top of the engine it doesn’t need to be installed first like many cars when it is in the bottom or side and would leak if not installed prior to adding new oil

That’s awesome! What kind of things have you done? I'm definitely interested in getting long tube headers, a tune, and maybe eventually a supercharger and supporting mods but it’s all too expensive for me right now unfortunately

@@monumentauto only have had it for 2 months, drove it from ontario to b.c to break it in. then tossed in a tune and intake filters and a mid pipe to start. sounds great like all the 6.2s

theres actually an oil filler location on the ml63, to the right of the filter, black cap undo with socket, filling through the filter housing works but topping up after checking level is just going to get messy !!

also when you drain oil, measure what you have taken out then and fill exactly this. Otherwise you will over fill.
