2017 game 5 didn't decide the World Series, which to me should make it #3 on the list, the other two did. no team has ever been down to their last strike in the WS and came back to win the series, and STL did it twice(!!). To me, that makes this game #1. Also Joe Buck's call resembling his late father's is just icing on the cake imo.

For a team to be down to their last strike twice in an elimination game in the World Series and pull it off both times is truly incredible. This has to be the greatest baseball game ever played, especially considering what we now know about Astros-Dodgers game 5.

A lot of people - honestly, it goes back to a couple rounds before when Chris Carpenter outdueled Roy Halladay in Game 5 of 5 - Halladay was exceptional and Carp NEEDED to be even moreso. He was. And then in this game Pujols hit a first-pitch double with one out when the door was closing on the Cardinals - this led to Freese’s huge triple

To be honest the whole team got the Cards to that point and helped them in the situation in one way or another. But Freese was easily the most clutch along with Berkman.

Most I've seen have gone with the 2016 WS Game 7. I think what allowed it to edge this one is that it was a game 7 combined with the history of the 2 teams facing each other. It was a Historic match-up, a game 7 and overall a great game that saw just about everything you can think of.

I am a lifetime Rangers fan from the 90's on to today. This will be the closest they ever get in my life to winning a World Series. It was Sad that the atrocious defense cost them the win in this game. When Colby Lewis starts in the Post season, he was clutch as hell. 2 of the 3 runs he gave up were technically unearned due to errors his defense made behind him. The Cardinals would not have even been in the lead early on without that sloppy defense. To be fair, the Cardinals got the drift of the game and made mistakes of their own, but the Rangers just couldn't make simple routine plays like the Cruz misread of the ball at the end. It made for the best and most competitive WS game I've ever seen though. When is the last time any of you saw this many lead changes in a Baseball game??? It's like they gave up the lead to each other every single inning .

So I decided to come up with reasons why 2016 WS Gm 7 or 2017 WS Gm 5 (The two games possibly in the top two) should be or shouldn't be #1. 2016 WS Gm7 as #1. 1. Chicago Cubs vs. Cleveland Indians - Two franchises with the longest title droughts. 2. Game 7 of the World Series 3. Late game two-run homer by Rajai Davis off of Aroldis Chapman. 4. Rain delay that switched the momentum from the Indians to the Cubs. 2016 WS Gm7 Not #1. 1. Cubs were in control of the game for the most part until Cleveland came back. 2. Last play ended on a routine groundout and not a walkoff. 3. Corey Kluber, who dominated Games 1 and 4, not as efficient in Game 7 while Kyle Hendricks pitched very well with a 5-1 lead till he was pulled in the fifth. 4. Game picked up in the late innings. 2017 WS Gm5 as #1 1. Two 100+ teams playing in an epic World Series 2. A promising pitcher's duel that ended up with so many momentum shifts more so in 2017 than in 2016 with the Astros coming back from behind three times while the Dodgers came back in the ninth. 3. Seven homers, including three game-tying blasts. 4. Walkoff finish. 2017 WS Gm5 Not #1 1. Non-elimination Game 5. 2. Alleged juiced balls. 3. An offensive slugfest with rare pitching and defense. 4. Battle of one team with a tradition against a team seeking their first title. This is not saying one game is better than another because both games are deserving to be number one. But we'll wait and see what #2 is on Sunday I suppose.

This is #1. How many pitches down to their last strike? Same team 11 games out in August. 8 in September. Gets in on the final day. Road game 5 in Philly. Having to win this game just to get to game 7. This is#1. This is the peak of baseball. The Cubs never went below a 50% win percentage deep in that game. The Cardinals were eliminated all but on paper in this game 4 innings in a row essentially.

How could this not be #1. The Astros game 5 in and of itself wasnt a must-win game. This was. And If I recall correctly, at no point in time were the Astros down to their last strike or even last out. They didn't even begin the 9th or 10th inning NEEDING to score to stay alive. The Cardinals were down to their final strike TWICE, both in the bottom of the 9th AND 10th inning. You simply are not being objective to rank that game above the one.
