Note*: FIngers stepped on with metal cleats/spikes. Cleats used to be made of sharp 3cm wide blades, so ya. If you get stepped on, it's going through the skin, flesh, muscle. If a finger was stepped on by a metal cleat, it could sever it.

Hey guys, watch Jomboy’s breakdown of the fight between the Angels and the Mariners. He breaks it all down. Also, Taylor Ward of the Angels just suffered a serious injury when he was hit in the face by a 92 mph pitch. It was unintentional, but Ward is out for at least 60 days. It’s not official, but they’re saying he suffered some facial fractures.

The collision at 5:28 was even crazier bc the runner is also a catcher. So it was catcher vs catcher there. He knew exactly what he was doing. Pierzinski

The guy who put the batter in a head lock just happens to be the Nolan Ryan (The Ryan Express), the hardest throwing pitcher in the history of baseball--so I would expect that the pitch he was hit by would have hurt just a little bit. 😉

Getting their fingers stepped on. Now remember they wear cleats, which are metal spikes on the soles of their shoes. So getting a hand, or finger stepped on can end a season.

Baseball cleats aren't spikes, they're small blades. They're even more dangerous if a hand gets stepped on than a football or soccer cleat

@@ethanbrinkman3401 But the whole point.. No pun intended, 😁 is that it can lead to a serve injury if a player gets stepped on by one. That's also why players are not allowed to slide feet first into a base anymore.

Getting hit hurts a lot. Some areas hurt more than others though. The ass cheek or back are probably the least painful, but it will still bruise. Ribs and ankle are probably some of the more painful ones. But if you ever play, pray to god you don’t get hit in the face.

3:35 Getting your fingers stepped on is no joke when most players were wearing metal cleats on their shoes. Synthetics were getting a bit popular, but were less effective with any moisture on the greass. Getting your hand stepped on, especially in motion, can easily tear tendons and at least lacerate the fingers enough to require stitches. Ty Cobb was notorious 100 years ago of sliding into bases "spikes up" or "cleats up" to add threat to the player trying to tag him out. Metal cleats can do some serious damage.

The dumb thing to me about baseball brawls is when you see the guys making the 300+ ft jog from the bullpen and getting to the fight too late only to basically just stand around, do nothing because they’re pitchers and don’t want to hurt their hands, then have to make the walk back 😂

Correct Daz, no more homeplate collisions after Posey broke his leg in one. Obviously not the only reason, there have been many serious ones and sports all over have slowly started to become more serious with protecting players. It's a bit of a controversial topic as some see it as 'softening' and 'ruining' the sport.
@jkuzem96

To add a little more info, the so-called buster posey rule wasn't added until 3 years after posey broke his leg. The rule was added after another catcher whose name I can't remember also was seriously injured. Maybe someone can add to this with his name.

@@ottomackensen The issue is money. No one (Fans or the League) wants to see Posey's backup, or Patrick Mahomes' backup because they took a hard shot and got hurt. It might be more exciting in the short term to see hard hits, but it lessens the quality of the product overall in the long term.

8:00 Roger McDowell (the pitcher) had been traded from the Mets to the Phillies earlier in that season. Part of the reason McDowell was traded was he didn't get along with Jefferies (not many on the Mets did) .. Jefferies was the #1 minor league prospect in the game, had come up in September of 1988 and did really good in limited games... his "rookie" season (he didn't play enough the year before, so he was still a rookie as per the rules) he was a prima donna, and rubbed many of his teammates the wrong way. He also wasn't coming even close to living up to expectations.. They had words in the clubhouse a few times before McDowell was traded. McDowell was taunting Jefferies. Mets traded the wrong guy.. McDowell was LOVED on the team and in NY. Jefferies never lived up to expectations and the Mets could have gotten a TON for him had they traded him earlier in his career.

@@lovesgucci1 That new rule isn't being enforced very evenly. Each umpire seems to have their own definition of what is allowed and what is obstruction. .. If a catcher is legally,or illegally, blocking the plate... it is permissible for the runner to barrel the catcher over provided he does not deviate his path and target the catcher. If a runner chooses to run on the far side of the foul line when racing a throw to the plate, he can do so to disrupt the throw.

These pitches never hurt the batter unless he's hit directly on a bone. Usually on the wrist or fingers. The fighting that results is childish and hopefully will be removed from baseball. ...Running over the catcher was rightfully banned because of serious injuries to the catcher's body. Not because of the overexaggerated concussion stuff.

Aiden, I can assure you that the baseball hurts, depending on where it hits you. On the muscled areas, like you butt or thighs, not so much. On areas like the ribs, knees, elbows, head, considerably more. The ball is almost rock hard, 5+ ounces (145 grams), and traveling over 90 (sometimes 100) mph.
