I love seeing someone lay down a nice bunt, especially when it's to the open side of the field during a shift. It drives me nuts seeing guys try to beat the shift when no one is standing anywhere near third base.

When they are looking to see if the bunt is fair the runner can keep on running around the bases

Yes, but it's a bad idea, because then a fielder can just pick it up and throw rather than track it down, pick it up, and throw.

1:30 is very poor played from the catcher. He should have grabbed the ball when it was foul 3-4 times.
@renardmigrant7 жыл бұрын
As far as I can tell, the whole ball never crossed the whole of the line. Even it did, human reaction times are non-zero and if it rolls back one millimetre in the time it takes the signal to go from the brain to the hand that might be enough to make it a fair ball. Plus the umpire may call it fair in any case.

3rd baseline bunts always win, I had the highest average for over half a season because of bunts, it's colt league,everyone was too scared to do them when signaled and would have to run laps the next day at practice, I was fat and hated running.

If it rolled over the line, he would have picked it up and it would have been a foul ball
@zacharyw15584 жыл бұрын
he's waiting for the ball to roll over the line, becasue if it does, it would be counted as a foul ball and the runner needs to go back to batting box.

Why weren’t they picking the ball up when it was running along the line? I’m from the UK so don’t really understand. Thanks
@mattg63903 жыл бұрын
They were hoping that it would roll foul because they knew they weren't going to be able to throw him out at first. If the ball is picked up to the left of the line (or the right if it's on the first base side), it counts as a strike instead of a hit

Can a hitter hold the bat at a butting position before the pitch? And is it a strike if he misses the ball?
@mattg63903 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's a strike if he misses the ball while holding the bat in a bunting position and you can hold the bat in a bunting position before the pitch. Guys don't do that very often because they want to catch the pitcher and defense by surprise. Sometimes a pitcher will show bunt before the pitch because pretty much everybody already knows they are going to bunt. Sorry for the very long response

@andrewabraham74557 жыл бұрын
29proto no ump is going to call that in really life. Hate when people who don't play baseball pretend to know the "rules"
@29proto7 жыл бұрын
why wouldn't they? it's a rule. i make that call every time.
@andrewabraham74557 жыл бұрын
29proto it's like the speed limit. the rule there but it's rarely enforce just because it's impractical and the game functions normally without it. It's just understood by real players that that's part of how baseball is played.
@29proto7 жыл бұрын
no. you bunt with 2 feet in the box. otherwise it's cheating.
@andrewabraham74557 жыл бұрын
29proto you're laughable. You obviously have never played the game and don't have a running understanding of its rules. That is going to be called very rarely cause 1) some rule just aren't enforced in the actual playing of the sport (which is made obvious in the above video) and 2) most umpires won't be able to judge that as they're primarily watching the pitch. Yes, it's a rule. But no, it is not enforced regularly and that's fine, a byproduct of actually playing the game; something it's obvious you've never done.
