@jhanks20127 жыл бұрын
Well the moon is larger than some planets so it's large enough to be called a planet it's just that it happens to orbit around another planet instead of around the sun, so it's a very arbitrary definition to call it a moon but not a planet. In theory the moon could be moved into an orbit around the sun, and then the definition of planet would apply. To have two different names for the same exact object depending only on the object's current orbital trajectory is kind of stupid.

Sometimes you can feel when a hone run is coming. I notice that I often can feel when a strikeout is coming, or a double play. Knowing the game intimately and being very observant to even the obscure things going on helps to form an idea of what will happen next.

There's a pretty great game from 2015 where Madison Bumgarner is in the box against the A's. Kruk and Kuip are talking about his approach to batting and how he says "My strategy is to try to hit a homerun every swing..." and right after they say that, he does. Giants end up winning 1-0... but I don't know if that counts as a "called it" homer.

Funny thing about MLB Network is... even when they're "LIVE" they're up to 5 minutes behind the local coverage of the game, so they could easily get the results before going to their look-in.
@shmooveyea8 жыл бұрын
My MLB TV is max 10-30 seconds behind. 5 minutes? Thats rough.
@matrixphijr8 жыл бұрын
shmaveyea I don't know if it's the same as a regional delay. I just know I've been on local coverage of my team's game and seen them (for instance) get a walk-off hit, then flipped over to MLB Tonight to see highlights, only to hear Amsinger say, "When we come back, we'll take you to (city) where the (team) have the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th. Can (batter) come through?" Then after the commercial, they go "live to the park" to show the exact same thing I saw on my local coverage minutes earlier. So I don't know if they just don't get the highlights right away, or lie and claim it's live when they already know what happened, or what.
@matrixphijr8 жыл бұрын
I do trust Greg Amsinger, though. He's always seemed pretty sincere -- maybe his producers know but don't tell him so he can have his moments. Then again, if you're a smart guy (and I'm sure he is), you have to know there's a reason your highlight show is about to cut to a certain game, that something must have happened.
@chrism75748 жыл бұрын
matrixphijr That's not always true. I've watched many live look ins to sports, baseball, soccer, football, and 90% of the time the result is just a pop out or ground out for baseball, soccer is usually a tied game or one goal game and the look in is into the last moments of stoppage time and its ends the same score, or football it's just a field goal or whatever. From my experience, they just cut to a game that has something going on, sometimes something happens that interesting, but most of the time it's completely run of the mill play.
@matrixphijr8 жыл бұрын
Chris M I understand. I never said it was always true all the time. But I've seen it happen before that they cut to a "live look-in" well after the situation they look into has ended. That was my only real point -- that it isn't always live.

Me and my dad have called many Nats homers. On opening day it was raining against the Marlins, in the7th, my dad said "Alright, Harper's due, we'll see him hit a homer and go home" Harper did that. I called the Murphy pinch hit game tying homer against Melancon, I also called the Turner homer, and I asked my parents if I could stay up to watch Turner hit the walk off before I went to bed, and he hit the homer, and I called the two walk off homers by Harper this year. I guess I have a pretty good track record.

Once when I still played finnish baseball in junior league, the pitcher started smacktalking me and asked "wanna low pitch or high?" to which I answered "low, I like to hit homers from those". Team mates were laughing at my answer because I was the skinny guy who had never hit a homer. Then came the pitch, first one of the whole match in the first game of the season. It was low, and I hit it just perfectly. Everyone who heard what I said before the pitch just laughed loudly as I rounded the bases for my first home run

Abc Fam A big part of rebuilding is drafting high...and the worst records get the top picks...so if you really think rebuilding teams aren't trying to lose...by methods such as playing prospects before they are really ready or passing on veterans that could get them a couple of WARP...you're either naive...or you don't know baseball. And I say all this without passing judgment on those franchises, that's just what a complete tear-down and rebuild entails.
