Astros were playing in Kansas City and Altuve alread had a home run, double, and single. He hit a ball into the gap in the outfield and had a really good chance at a triple to get the cycle, but when he rounded second he fell over. Then Trout did this, not sure how far apart the games were.

He wasn't in the runner's lane on the way to first. Even if he had been faster, he could have been called for interfering with the throw to first. The pitcher is within his rights to be positioned in fair territory.

What's the rule on the one where the ball hit the ground first and the batter hit the ball? The outfielder caught the ball, is that an out?

Hitting a bouncing ball is perfectly legal (as the announcer mentioned, Vladimir Guerrero did so several times). A fly ball is a fly ball--so long as it didn't bounce AFTER hitting the bat, the batter is out when the fielder catches it.
