I've watched baseball for five decades. I always thought that if an infield popup was nearest to the pitcher, he'd catch it. Was I wrong all that time? Are they just supposed to point, then stand there while the other players decide who's going to catch it? Seems very inefficient to me, and prone to the kinds of errors I just watched.

I speak on behalf of Philly when I say we supported the ump throwing Papelbon out of the game. He was awful
