just depends. You're taught to run at the glove and slide late to try to break up the double play. so it's not a normal slide you pull off. lose your balance and your legs instinctively go up to keep balance while sliding, you're going in late so your lead heel catches the bag and pops up. but could also be dirty. some of this stuff wasn't actually dirty plays though for the times. the old running into the catcher was standard. if you're in the baseline without the ball, you get knocked over.

If a pitcher can throw a ball at a guy's head, it seems only fair a batter should be able to throw a bat back at him.

You dont accidentally plant a cleat into the side of a man's ankle with your full body weight behind it. Machado may have tried to catch Pedroia immediately but let's be honest....if you heard this story without seeing the clip you wouldn't doubt for a second it was intentional.

Pete Rose all-star game--- Barreling into Ray Fosse isn't unsportsmanlike conduct. This is one of the myth's perpetuated into an urban legend for 40 years now. He didn't end his career. Legal play, and yes all-star games mattered back then for playoff home games and it was for the winning run. And Ray Fosse played over 40 games and hit 297 that season after the collision. Bottom line, it's the cacther's job to block the plate and the runner's job to get to the home plate. Part of the game.
@robinsonnobles62463 жыл бұрын
7:35 This one actually isn't unsportsmanlike. You're allowed to run into the catcher if you're coming home when the catcher has the ball. I've done this a couple times, and this is to knock the ball out of the catcher's hand so that you can be safe. It's not unsportsmanlike it just a smart play if it's a close game.
@johnhamilton20853 жыл бұрын
This was in a purely exhibition All-star game. It had a significant negative effect on Ray Fosse's career.
@talon_xi3 жыл бұрын
As the last comment said, it was exhibition. However, the catcher was right in the way but that doesn't excuse that whatsoever.
@robinsonnobles62463 жыл бұрын
@@talon_xi I think it is fine. He was just trying to win, and as you said, the catcher was in the way and the play is completely legal.

Chase Utley's late slide was dirty and put of the baseline. As a Mets fan what pissed me off was how he was called safe on the review when neither he or Tejada touched the bag. My Dad stated as a former umpire that if nobody touches the bag on the play, then the original call should stand
