Fact: When Ichiro was playing in Japan, the Japanese league played 30 fewer games per year than MLB. In fact, Ichiro has only hit over 200 once in his nine years in Japan, but he has hit over 200 in MLB ten times, including an insane record of 262. My opinion: If he had been in MLB since his professional debut, he would have surpassed Pete Rose in all time hit record with ease.

i will say this, considering he kept himself healthy for a long as he did and extended his mlb career for as long as he could, the last 5 season kinda put a kink in his otherwise outstanding HoF career but IMO he still falls behind Tony Gwynn as the best pure hitter the game has seen since Ted Williams, and for sure the best hitter since TG retired .But If TG could have kept himself healthier throughout his career (he only avg 122 games played over his 20 yr career) he for sure wouldve eclipsed Pete Rose's all time mlb record.

If we take only his hits in the mlb, extract an average from his entire tenure in the mlb for per season hits (which isn’t fair to him obviously, given that he declined late into his career and we’ll say he played in the 2019 season even though he appeared only up until the end of March) and then we say he’d hit at 50% of that average for those theoretical 7 years because he was still building up his skills or something, we can estimate a very conservative 3658 hits. That’s good for 4th all time for hits in the mlb. Ichiro is, if we stack everything possible against him, the fourth best hitter in mlb history.

Growing up as a Mariners fan living in Seattle, my baseball friends and I idolized Ichiro as a beacon of what baseball is about. We would imitate his stance at the plate, popping his sleeve and extending the bat outwards, we tried mimicking his swing... we did it all! I'm so thankful to grow up in a time where he ruled my beloved city with a humble and hard-working glove! I am so thankful for the memories he produced for me and I'm so thankful for what he did for the game of baseball in Seattle! Ich, thank you for everything!

Offensively and defensively, he always played hard and gave fans their money’s worth. Ichiro had 4 of the 5 baseball tools. He absolutely had speed, arm strength, fielding, and batted for average, he just lacked power. However, Ichiro stated he could hit home runs if he wanted to but felt that was not how he could be most valuable to the team.

First ballot no doubt. There's no controversy there. But I think he'll get over 90% of the vote aswell. Absolutely outstanding career. The best overall (excluding power) hitter/outfielder the mlb has ever seen. Yeah Tony Gwinn could be argued to be a better hitter, but Ichiro was a much better fielder with an absolute CANON of an arm. Better hitter than Rose. Better player than Gwinn. The fact that he was able to even stand out like he did in the steroid era and be a dominant leadoff hitter for 10 straight years, that's unreal.

Even now, five years after his retirement, what he accomplished in a foreign land using this "magic wand" remains a legend for us Japanese who aspired to be like him. But now, he has a big job to do. No Asian has ever achieved anything in the past, let alone in baseball, let alone in the four major American sports: being inducted into the Hall of Fame. There is no longer any room for doubt about the path Ichiro has walked. To all those who vote, I strongly believe that this Samurai from Japan will leave a legacy by unanimous vote, and that his achievements are sufficient.

Something I've always admired about Ichiro was his humility. I don't think I've ever seen him showboat or do anything unnecessary. All he ever did was play the game. I was at the "Spider-Man Catch" game. Sitting in the left field bleachers right next to center field. I knew he was good. But I was in total shock and amazement. He jumped, planted his foot on the wall, turned around, and catch the ball just with his glove. Just wow.

Being Japanese American from Seattle, he made me proud! I didn’t even like baseball all that much, I’ve been a huge football fan my whole life, I was only a baseball fan during Griffey Jrs days but when Ichiro came, I became a fan again! It was a proud moment for Japanese Americans.
