Yeah, what the heck was up with that?? I'm an AL guy so please forgive my Giants ignorance, but why wasn't Posey behind the plate?
@TheHomelessDreamer
@TheHomelessDreamer Ай бұрын
@@TemakiTom . Posey always got a few a stints per season , starting even with his Rookie campaign, at first base. Principally to extend his career (saving the knees and all) and ended up playing 17% of his games at 1st.* Sometimes a pitcher preferred working with the second catcher and Posey, too valuable in the lineup, got first base rather than sit the game out. Not sure which of the two conditions applied here. There was some speculation that Lincecum perhaps didn't want Posey catching for him anymore, but there is no evidence to that effect that I am aware of so more likely it was just a scheduled day for Posey. He did end up with 4 hits and 2 RBI in that game, so... not bad eh? I understand that these are the situations where the DH comes in handy, but, NL, you know. He did DH 31 times in the regular season in his career when that was an option. *in his final season (2021) they just sat him when he didn't catch, as it's his only full season without a single stint on first.

Damn, a second inning walk, otherwise, perfect. Only the second pitcher to no hit the same team twice and the first to do it in consecutive years. A relatively short but brilliant career. Multiple All Star games, multiple Cy Young awards, multiple World Series titles and multiple no-hitters. Only one other did that. Sandy Koufax.

Masterpiece! I’m not a Giants fan, but I’m a fan of the game. I’ve always liked Tim Lincecum b/c he is the same size as me, and he is a 3x WS Champion w/ SF Giants (2010, 2012, 2014) & he won back to back NL Cy Young Awards (2008 & 2009). Plus two “no hitters” by the time he was 30 years old! That’s sick in anyone’s book.

But you have to consider out of 27 outs (28 batters faced due to the walk) only 6 batters were struck out, and of those 6 strikeouts the catcher had to throw out at least 2 (that I counted). Yes the plays were routine but even if they misplayed one and it dropped in they ruin it for him so you have to at least give them some credit for helping him out.

Do you know how hard it is to become a real MLB pitcher at 5’10 170 pds ? When I was practicing at Kent state as a pitcher, even being 6’0 182 pds they limited my potential as a lefty thrower. They said, on a real mound at the professional level you will be standing up higher and need to kick your leg up over even lower on the drop. If you were 6’1 or 6’2 you could have went pro. You have to have insane mechanics, lower mass upper body to keep the strength in the wrist and elbows and strong lower body to push the momentum of force forward from the kick. He’s considered one in 15M people. Look at the difference between him and Bumgarner. Completely different people with different advantages

b4ssfunk3d Even SD's consistent suckiness can't deminish this feat. A no-hitter against any MLB team is amazing and fairly rare, and the fact that he did it against the same team two years in a row is unheard of. I was shocked when I heard about it. It will probably never happen again which makes it very special.
@b4ssfunk3d
@b4ssfunk3d 10 жыл бұрын
I won't take away from Tim Lincecum's accomplishment. But if he faced a team that actually had a budget and a few good batters he wouldn't have pulled off two no-hitters against the same team. Try that against the Red Sox or Yankee's Tim. The Padres batting lineup is dismal and every so often they have spurts of 10 game winning streaks that are usually won by our pitchers in combination with some average batting. Still two no-hitters against the recent Padres (last playoff appearence was 2004/2005) is nothing to brag about.
@assmane999
@assmane999 10 жыл бұрын
"Still two no-hitters against the recent Padres (last playoff appearence was 2004/2005) is nothing to brag about." WHAT!!!????? Wow, you're a tough guy to impress. If it's so easy, why haven't other pitchers done it against this crappy team? I bet you not one pitcher since that season has even pitched consecutive 1-hitters against them. If a person is allowed to brag about anything, I would say it is back to back no-hitters against any MLB team, regardless of how bad their offense is.

Why was Posey on first? I'm not a Giants fan but I know he's normally a catcher

Posey is put at 1st base whenever he needs rest to keep him healthy and prolong his catching career before having to be moved to 1st permanently.

Catching is really demanding on the knees throughout the season, so they want to give him a break there. However, the Giants also don't want to lose his bat in the lineup, so they sometimes play him at first.

Most catchers play a bit of first base to give them a break from catching.
