@bobbyowsley46045 жыл бұрын
@@douglas61920 I agree that the reason is obvious, but the definition of cheating is slightly skewed here as well. For one, there wasn't a rule against anabolics in baseball at that time. For another, MLB - the curators of the HOF - didn't seem to care one iota if those guys were dropping syringes next to the bat donut in the on-deck circle before every at bat. Baseball cashed in on "the chase" and promoted the living daylights out of it to breathe life back into the game even when it became apparent that something was afoul. Not one, but TWO guys zeroing in on the single season HR record at the same time? They knew and they were all too happy to hide behind the lack of a specific rule against it. In fact, it wasn't until Canseco's book came out that baseball really felt pressure from Congress to institute rules.

@midrangetorque5 жыл бұрын
flipnotrab Agreed that drugs won’t improve hand eye coordination. They didn’t use drugs for that. Drugs weren’t needed for that. Drugs was the difference between a 300 ft fly ball and a 350ft+ homerun. The difference between a 350ft homer and a 400ft homer, and so on. Big homers and plenty of homers got you big contracts too. Drugs helped your strength, muscle fibers, and “quick twitch” muscles. Baseball is a game of inches right? Well, if you’re juicin’ and extra strong with a quicker than avg bat, you can wait a tick longer for a pitch which in turn lets you see the ball for a tick longer. It’s similar to seeing 95+ mph as if it were 85-90 mph...because their added strength & power allows them to wait longer. In baseball, that’s a huge difference!

I agree. However the problem is that not every competitor would be willing to take them, so it would be unfair to them. But it would be insanely entertaining to watch a sauced out league
@zachbartlett28293 жыл бұрын
@Kenny Powers yea but then youd almost inevitably had some natural players that are still better than some of the sauced guys. They just dont want to take it. So youd have guys in a “lesser” league who are good enough to play at the top

McGwire, Sosa and Clemens and a few others deserve to be in the HOF. They were an inspiration to countless kids in the 90’s. Including myself and McGwire was the reason I wanted to pick up a baseball bat. Juice or not they were the face of baseball in a time when it needed it most

I agree. I was a huge baseball fan back then but never in my life have I cared much about any sport at all since then. Watching a sport, being a fan, its about a combination of entertainment and inspiration they provide and if the steroids add to that then so be it. Mostly every sport in the world has its viewer appeal enhanced by benefits of steroids and it would be better off accepted.

I remember watching this. This was a fantastic time of baseball and the last of the great times of enjoyment. Who cares what they were on? The fans were together, having a great time, etc. Now all people seem to do is complain about everything. Bring back the good times, when men were men.

I loved being a kid in the 90s because of times like this, MJ with the Bulls, all the great football, and then these guys in the late 90s saving baseball, sure they were juiced but come on that was the era, it was amazing to watch none the less.

How can guys like McGwire and Bonds not be in the Hall of Fame? Just look at that crowd reaction to the greatest home run hitter ever.

Because they were juicing at the time, but they are used sometimes for medical purposes. Unfortunately there's no grey area when it comes to rules

Why was Ben Johnson stripped of his 100 meter gold medal? Why was Marian Jones stripped of her 5 medals? These A-holes cheated the game of baseball, records that have stood for decades. They blew away these records by cheating, by taking steroids.

Because they blatantly disregarded the rules. To say they belong in the HOF is nothing but dumb. No Clemens, no A-rod, none of them "deserve" to be there.

Stanton hit 59 a few years ago. Really hoping Judge and Stanton can pull off a season like Maris and Mantle if they can stay healthy in the post steroid era. Love to see a player not on PED revive this record again. Watching Bonds, Mcguire, and Sosa chase the record was beyond exciting. Stanton hits some bombs with 118 mph exit velocity. Love to see a healthy season with Judge and Stanton getting 60 plus

I remember that year. His home run hitting that year had all baseball fans enthralled with watching him. Fans would show up to the parks hours before the game in hopes of seeing him take bp. The Cards came to Cleveland one season and I still remember when McGwire hit the scoreboard during bp at the Jake.
