Dude, Pedro Martinez is such an iconic person. And this is coming from a life long Yankee from who’s from NY. Those Yankee vs. Red Sox games back in the early and mid 2000’s were LEGENDARY. You knew when Boston was coming to town and you knew which game Pedro was starting. There’s no greater feeling then being at old Yankee Stadium watching a Red Sox vs Yankees game and hearing the crowd boo the hell out of Pedro when his name is announced. The “Who’s Your Daddy?” chant still gives me chills whenever I think about it…

Very rare that a Spanish first speaker that Pedro has a mastery of the English Language. Arod is another one.
@alopez15713 жыл бұрын
Pedro learned it after signing as a free agent rookie with Dodgers, around 16 or 17 years old. Arod was born in USA, the typical bilingual who speaks Spanish at home and English at school. Those masters English better.
@BASSGMAN66Ай бұрын
Pedro has better command of the English language than a lot of current American born athletes in any sports. Funny thing, I'm a hearing impaired veteran with Tinnitus who uses hearing aids and even without them on, I can completely understand him. He 'frames' his words with good enunciation. He learned English the right way. On another note, I agree with other commenters that Greg Maddux would provide yet another take on pitching mechanics and mental approach on the game.

Note on Pedro: he stood differently on the rubber, As he says "hook the rubber" using a 50/50 approach where he was a bit further back, but the way he anchored his foot gave him more leverage. Most are 'inside the rubber" but some concern about your cleats anchoring to the dirt, it's not as strong b/c the dirt moves around. I'm no expert, but seems like there are no right answers, do what works for you

@WhereIsTheIntruder3 жыл бұрын
They're astonishingly similar in terms of mechanics too, especially for two pitchers with such different body types. All deGrom needs to make it is to stay healthy and last, the quality is already there.

A great who’s wasted his career staying on the mets with a bargain contract
@danr1543 жыл бұрын
DeGrom isnt gonna last much longer I dont think. The little nagging injuroes are popling up. Where theres smoke theres fire. Hes Kyle Hendricks body type throwing 12-14 mph harder.....and keeps ADDING year by year. Its not sustainable. He got pulled just last night after being pulled again 2 starts before that after having other inflammation problems early in the year. You get inflammation, subconsciously change mechanics, then inflame some other new area.....next after that is the full blowout. Even though their mechanics are wildly different I cant help but think of Tim Lincecum and hope DeGrom ends better.

Played t ball and baseball as a kid. Didn't like the high school baseball team and their general demeanor towards other people. I viewed it as a "clique" sport different from football, basketball, wrestlers, and the like. Instead of baseball I did track, and that shit sucked. This makes me wish I just played baseball and stayed in my lane, not feeding into the high school baseball douche bag persona.
@Triqkshot3 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure he’s going to say it depends on the hitters stance and what type of break he wants on a pitch. If you’re breaking in on the batter stand further away for the ball seems like it’s in the zone longer. If you’re breaking out stand in on him.
