This message is timeless, delivered in 1965 but still relevant in 2020.Dr. King was a brilliant soul sent to the world to free humanity from all forms of slavery, continue resting in power Dr. King

Wasn't this the reason Christ came into the world? "Then know who it is that is speaking. And understand the death he suffered, and the burial he received, being laid to rest in a place that was preserved for him to be laid where no other man had ever been laid before, and placed in a tomb, and had the face of his tomb covered with a stone covering. Because he was laid this way so that the scriptures be fulfilled that we suffered not to put his body into the ground. And this is where he shall be until the last day when the father comes down to raise him back up to life again and seat him on the throne at his right hand side, and give him the powers over all the kingdoms of the world, because he is worthy to receive the glory of them, because he laid down his life on behalf of all of us.

Great comment my brother for all humanity peace and blessings 🙏
I was there!!! I saw this monumental human being speaking to the crowd at UCLA at the bottom of Janss Steps. At the time we had no idea how great he really was. His thoughts and words and moral compass and understanding of the socio-economic forces at play in this country only grow more remarkable as time passes.
@robertclayborne97503 жыл бұрын
And you still have not come to know who he really is!
@myblacklab73 жыл бұрын
And more relevant. Did you really see him make this speech? If you're telling the truth, what was the atmosphere like in the crowd? I found myself laughing quite a bit at his wit, and noticed that the crowd laughed too.
@minipawpaw3 жыл бұрын
I was there...absolutely. It was an era when lots of idealistic, white students were pushing for this society to be just and fair and humane...the way we were led to believe it was in our history books. It was a unified, enthusiastic crowd, inspired by King's passionate eloquence. We were hopeful, and he made us feel energized and joyful. We were exceptionally naïve about the forces in this country that have always done whatever it takes to keep this society restricted and hopelessly cumbersome for all but the connected.
@myblacklab73 жыл бұрын
@@minipawpaw But MLK, Jr. speaks about celebrating our victories. Are things as bad now as they were when you listened to this speech? I think the corrupting influences of defeatism and recrimination have poisoned most of those who would otherwise be building a better society for us all. I find it very difficult to find anyone on the left who will say anything other than "it's impossible" when I offer potential solutions to the most pressing problems of today. It's a very depressing crowd, and has also become quite mean-spirited. If only people would LISTEN to what MLK, Jr. was saying, we would all come together, and we would do great things.

I'm one of the Lost Boys of Sudan who never fully experienced the love of his parents, but life must continue. Sometimes the best way to move forward is not to scratch the old painful scars, but (if South Sudan president and generals allow) to build South Sudan and unite our people, but the more you speak, as Dr. Biar Ajak has done, he was jailed and who knows where he is right now. Violence is not the best way to solve our differences as Humans. Dialogue is. *Dear late Dr. King, you remind me of brother Dr. John Garang de Mabior. Shukran for this awesome speech and I hope you are looking over us from wherever you are, whether in heaven, hell or somewhere around. Asante sana for your hardwork and wisdom. May America have a great election on Tuesday, Nov 5th, 2024. Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, all the best but the loser MUST concede for the sake of Humanity and democracy.

The genius of this man is breathtaking. It's a failure of academia that there is not yet a name for Martin Luther King, Jr.'s moral philosophy. It may be true that King mostly amalgamated the wisdom of the past, and borrowed heavily from The Greats, but never before or since has such a cogent moral philosophy been matched with a pragmatic set of tactics and strategies. Especially today, when there is so much division over disagreements mainly caused by the poison of politics, the moral philosophy and great speeches and sermons of Martin Luther King, Jr. can pull us together when too many are being torn apart.

Alas, he was human, and he gave his life fighting for us all to enjoy equal civil rights in a free country. Some point to his flaws, and say he wasn't as great as people say he is, but I point to the fact that he gave his life for us, and ask if those who would criticize him for his peccadillos would also emulate his ultimate sacrifice. And remember, he could have retired and lived on an island with beautiful women, but instead he stayed the path, even though he had a premonition of his own death. He is a great man, and perhaps the greatest who graces America's history, but alas, he was not superhuman - he was just an example of how good human beings can be.

@Paul Lunsford Not that you asked, and I know your comment is a year old, but I think that Malcolm X had some good things to say about self-determination, even if his membership in the Nation of Islam led to his assassination. Malcolm X strikes me as sort of the Conservative side of civil rights for black people, whereas King was more of a left-leaning Independent who fought for the civil rights of all people. Both had insight, although I prefer King over Malcolm X where the two conflict, and honestly think that King was a far greater genius than Mr. X, even if "Malcolm X" is a slightly more baller name than "Martin Luther King, Jr."
