I don't think Jonathan was using Michelle Obama or Coretta Scott King as a prop. I think Jonathan merely wanted a woman that understands the vision of her spouse and the sacrifices both had to make to support and foster the vision. Unfortunately, Jonathan is not a great communicator so his statement was taken for many things, but clearly it was not a prop as Berniece King believed. It was actually a compliment to both women.

I think Majors' comment also ripped a scab off the wound that most people try to ignore: Coretta stood by MLK in spite of his extramarital affairs for the sake of the cause. So even though Jonathan was really saying "I've made mistakes and hope someone still has my back," he caught backlash mainly because people still have MLK on a pedestal that prevents us from even alluding to his imperfections. Don't get me wrong: I'm not saying MLK's personal private struggles take away from any of the sacrifices he made. But I am saying it's okay for us to admit the people we admire aren't perfect, including Dr. King.

Im very pleased to hear this family speak out. There are so few public examples of TRUE excellence, intelligence, dedication and sacrifice these days. ANYTHING ‘celebrity’ is deemed to have values worth striving for. This is why some people feel totally comfortable with fixing their mouths to proclaim greatness when in reality, they are a nothing more than a toxic, dysfunctional, ego-centered person filled with immaturity and spiritual bankruptcy. That is truly sad. More solid examples of sustainable values that can truly uplift and maintain not only a community but civilization are needed.

We are all sinners, even the best of men and women. That being said, there seems to be a lack of understanding of knowing who are historical figures were. They were men and women who had the courage to be bold to make positive change in our society for the many, not the self. How anyone who has been accused of abusing someone can put himself in the same light as Martin Luther King or Corretta Scott King is absurd and profane. And how anyone can use the likeness of a man who literally made the ultimate sacrifice, not going to war to kill, but waging a campaign of peace, to show him as being a common bafoon is insane. There is no regard or respect for men and women who were dying to make a difference in society for human rights. It is tragic and equally disgusting. They don't understand who these people were.

@@chicopeegirl5738 I get your point, but the reason for my initial comment is that many interpret that law as its literally stated. Wouldn't it have been more accurate to say: "If we LITERALLY lived by an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, none of us would have eyes or teeth?" After all, the ancient Israelites DID live by "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth," and they still had their eyes and teeth 😆so no "if" there. Again, that law was about the punishment fitting the crime, not meant literally. We have the same principle in our modern laws.

Sadly most of the attacks at Jonathan Majors regarding his usage of Coretta name is coming from the black community. I believe most peoples animus towards him is not him using Coretta Scott’s name when referencing Megan in the interview. The real anger is that he used it when speaking to a white woman. How dare he use Coretta’s name when speaking to a white woman. If Jonathan had never used Coretta’s name when he was being secretly recorded by Grace, and only used it in the interview when referencing Megan Goode there wouldn’t be this much attention and vitriol from people. @@edg456 Thanks for offering that idea. I see it differently. Jonathan mentions both Coretta King Michelle Obama as good role models for a partner, since he looks up to MLK and President Obama. I think that people are not understanding the comment, misunderstanding it as race-oriented, as Jonathan’s ex-partner is not of the same race as Mrs King or First Lady Obama. I think this misunderstanding of the comment shows the public’s racial bias, as to say that a person cannot have a role model from another racial background. It’s unfortunate that CNN will focus on this rather than the content of the interview where a black man is fighting for his innocence. Jonathan discussed many important facts of the case such as the the judge/court suppressing evidence from the juror. 1. The judge did not allow the jury to know that Grace Jabari was arrested by NYPD for misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief for attacking Jonathan Majors 2. The judge did not allow the Jury to see pictures of Jonathan Majors injury on his hands and face 3. The detective who arrested her testified but was not allowed to testify that he arrested Grace Jabari. His testimony was limited and he could not mention any part of Grace Jabari’s arrest 4. And ofcourse we all witnessed a woman chasing a man, and he running from danger. Like he said they’ll be an uproar if he a black man was chasing a white woman. CNN I am disappointed in you as a network because rather focusing on facts of the case such as how race and the criminal justice system likely played a role in this case, you take your viewers focus away and give them a hanging fruit. Embarrass him or bring him down like that woman did. She destroyed his acting career. Why it's was so stupid of her to do. All those movie deals pulled out after his guilty verdict and I don't think he was guilty...I think she set him up. Learn read between the lines, God got explain word for word to some people. In ALL of these years I NEVER GIVE ANY ATTENTION TO BERNICE KING or what she says. She is always off. I always appreciated the older children more; YOLANDA KING (THE MOST) AND MARTIN THE THIRD. I like his answer to the Johnathan Majors comment. There's nothing wrong with saying and inspiring to have a CORETTA OR MICHELLE as the TYPE of wife you as an aspiring leader want to have. I think it's a compliment. AND BERNICE "OVER THE RELIGIOUS TOP" KING, seem to miss that with her very judgemental (religious based) comment. She could have been a bit kinder as her brother was here. I think where BLACK PEOPLE had the problem (chuckle) and I do agree and get it, was him telling that SORRY WHITE WOMAN who probably has no real idea WHO Mrs. King was, he wanted HER (which is laughable) to be like a Coretta Scott. We see how that turned out for him.

I don't understand how Jonathan Majors thinks he can place himself in the same sentence as MLK Jr. talking about "I am a great man". For Jonathan Majors to think he is as great a man as MLK Jr. and has made sacrifices as great as MLK Jr. is to be narcissistic and grandiose. Any 'sacrifices' that Jonathan Majors has made in his life most likely pertain to the uplifting of himself. MLK Jr. in contrast risked his life for the betterment of the black race and America as a whole. MLK Jr's activism was a selfless act. MLK Jr. won the Nobel Peace Prize -- What has Jonathan Majors done that was selfless or inspired peace? Now he wants to use BW to get his career back on track.
