All cults convince us to ignore our gut instincts. That part of us that warns us in these situations. Cults do this by convincing us that we are doing something (smart, noble, alpha, tough, important) when we “push past fear” without critical thinking. This sets us for other forms of manipulation and control.

“This little 4-letter word is preventing so many people from living their dreams!” translation: “Common sense and healthy, substantiated skepticism is preventing so many people from somewhat willingly entering into complete financial ruin to line my pockets and fuel my ego! Grrrr!” I appreciate you always keeping it real and working to keep people from being manipulated by MLMs, Julie Jo!! What you’re doing is so important! ❤❤ ETA: the blank stare pauses are so unsettling and also hilarious at the same time. How does she go from 👹 to 👁️👄👁️ and then right back to 👹?? I pity her neighbors. Can you imagine having to listen to her shout about “STRAPPING FEAR IN THE CAR OF LIFE AND MAKING IT YOUR PASSENGER” for 20+ mins day in and day out through your walls? I’d go crazy

Tangential to this discussion you just helped me figure out why I feel uneasy about an individual who keeps asking me out. They use phrases like “you must be afraid of falling in love with me” and it’s actually that the blaring red flags are giving me cold feet. You’re 100% right: it’s NOT fear. It’s your INTUITION. Which you should absolutely ALWAYS consider. We all have natural responses to things - based on our life experiences and lessons learned - that create our intuition, and we should at the very least explore it if not immediately trust it. Come on, she didn’t even try that hard to hide it

The aspect of MLM huns that truly makes me irate is the conditioning they have when it comes to social media. If every time you open up any of your social media apps and feel obligated or even held hostage by the notion that you have to “give value” or “pour into others,” your the person I’m muting, unfollowing, or even blocking. I’d be fine with her posting about her 💩. If that was just what she wanted to talk about. At least it would be her and not her MLM.

As an occupational therapist, that works with kids with varying abilities, I am constantly learning new things every single minute of every single day, and I cannot wait until I feel like I’m confident in the things that I’m doing and I don’t feel like I’m constantly struggling to learn something new. As someone with social, anxiety and social burnout, am way more comfortable hanging out with people that I know and not seeking new people in my life. If I make new friends, that is amazing and I’m so happy, but there’s nothing wrong with me being safe with the people that I love.

As a pharmacy tech who's worked in the same place for almost a decade she can bibbidi bobbidi back the f up. Every day in healthcare is unique and if I have fear as a 'passenger in my journey' then something has gone wrong and the safeguards put in place so I can do my job confidently have failed. If I'm getting out of my comfort zone that means outside of standard operating procedure and that puts patient safety at risk

Not all fears need to be confronted and overcome. It’s important to examine whether it’s a rational fear AND whether it’s worth pushing through. You can have an irrational fear that’s not really affecting your life (a fear of clowns, for example), or a rational fear that might actually be protecting you (a fear of losing money to a sketchy “business opportunity” when you’re already struggling financially), neither of which would be worth overcoming for me.

When she's talking about her "fear," I see a classic manipulation tactic. See...I'm vulnerable and unsure of myself! I'm so scared right now just talking to you that I'm covered in sweat and breaking out in hives! I'm so scared that my words don't mean anything to *you.* Gosh, you could really boost my confidence as a person by showing how much my words have moved *you* to take action in some way! See? My emotions...your action. You are responsible for making me feel better! 🤨

I do think that some of these “pep talks” or “tough love talks” can be generally helpful in the way any self-help book or speech could be helpful to someone, but when you put it in the context of mlm it really does feel like a manipulation tactic. I don’t know about y’all, but my job doesn’t have our managers giving us screaming, self-help speeches every other day because we’re not working hard enough lol. because unless you’re in an mlm, you don’t need a pep talk to get through the red flags of your daily life

Like I’ll be honest, as an artist who struggles with a lot of self esteem and/or imposter syndrome issues, I do think I like fear and anxiety control my life and keep me from the goals I have in my head.
