Yeah, and I know there are plenty of amazing writers who truly do know G4 well, people who are fans of the show. I thought at first that they might get some previous fans of the show to work on G5, but NOPE 😅 not really, at least.

Say what you will about Lauren, but she really set up a really really good base for what the show became. Despite her not writing for the show after the earliest seasons, the show continued to be so.strong because there was good writing to work off of and be inspired from.

All the concept art I saw was so much better than what we got, and it’s just a shame that it all went downhill after the movie. Nostalgia is powerful but so is good writing, and that’s something that MYM just doesn’t have. I’m not surprised at all that it was cancelled, and I think Hasbro knows they made a huge mistake. Hopefully G6 has better writers, characters, and story to tell. It’s crazy to me that Hasbro didn’t realize how G4 was so successful in the first place, hopefully they realize it now.

lets hope they bring back the concept and make it a full series I was really excited about them finally making a young adult mlp series and focusing on world and story building rather than having a gimmick of an extremely exaggerated main cast to sell toys

The problem with G5, assuming this _is_ the end of it, is it tried too hard to recapture the magic of G4. G4 being as good as it was came as a huge surprise to a lot of people, but that's because it had good writing, relatable characters, and focused on just being a fun show. G5 wanted so badly to be as successful as G4 but focused on trying to "continue the story from G4" instead of having the things in G4 that made it so beloved. We _could_ have enjoyed G5 just as much if not MORE than G4, but as it stands, it just comes off as the lesser show.

Fully agreed here!! This was a very different world that they created for these characters to live in, a much more modern one, and yet they still wrote the ponies as though they were crafting a Gen 4 fanfic or something. I wasn't really big on the realistic cities, much more interesting to see more towns like Bridlewood imo, but it still could have worked had they really focused on character writing and the world. They could have had the landscape starting to change as magic began to come back to the ponies, for example. They could have found other races/species like Flutter ponies and griffons that had taken shelter in another area or even another realm, only revealed once the magic of Equestria began to return. There was so much potential to play into the imagination of kids and adults alike and they just decided to go for a forgettable slice-of-life concept instead. I don't understand it at all.

@@psychotophatcat And by tying the plot to Gen 4 like they did, they retroactively made Twilight look _worse_ when you think about it. Like, seriously? Her solution to stopping what's her face (the main antagonist who's name I forget because she's THAT forgettable) was to get rid of _all magic_ in Equestria? What sense does THAT make? And this was presumably before her friends died, and even if that wasn't the case, she could have given the Elements to new bearers. And if the issue was that the three races had drifted from one another again, the answer to dealing with this was NOT to put them in a situation where they had no choice BUT get along or else they lose their magic. It'd have been better if it wasn't Twilight, but somepony else entirely. A new character separate from Gen 4 continuity.

This is our problem. cause we worshiped fim like a god,and having athiests as family members some of them deny god,like some of us are being down on generation 5 if I acted like this too my younger cousins I might get my mouth washed out with soap for being rude to my family descendants since they keep my family going for future generations,so without my niece my family ends,just like if hasbro ends generation 5,mlp may end forever,and some fans might blame us,even hasbro might be upset,since they create these cartoon horses for us,they even said then when they were creating generation 5 from fim,this is why said this our problem as some fans cause arent giving generation 5 time like we did fim,and it lasted 9 seasons,and we just ended chapter 4 in mlp mym,so if we reach 9 chapters and 7 episodes to boot,I feel we should realize maybe generation 5 is going through growing pains,like ponies going from fillies to mares,or us humans going from teenagers to adults,just rewatching chapter 1 episode growing pains,and some of us remind me of hitch,while I can relate to sunny in this episode.

"good writing and Relatable characters" that's how u make & sell good quality show to your audience, the g5 had so much conflict & mystery even after the Movie, I expected Sprout to have a conversations with Sunny & Hitch, but Nope!! they decided to yeet him out of the story! & add a stupid baby dragon & some rando characters that nobody askd Or cared for. that's what happens when you don't respect your fanbase.

@@onLinkage the problem is sparky might spike's great grandson,or ember,smolder might be his great grandmother,since at the end of chapter 4 when opaline blows the outline of a dragon outline might be of spike at the end of fim,also maybe some fans felt sparky,or maybe some hasbro people,plus Sparky's horns remind me of ember in fim,and his wings are sorta like smolder 's,I feel the crew should've kept fim maybe 5, or 6 seasons,so when they created seasons and dragging out fim, they felt probably cause of Netflix to create. less chapters aka seasons for generation 5 they over stuffed the the 9 parts of the previous,like adding too much jelly to peanut,so the generation 5 sandwich they created overwhelmed the cast,and crew of make your mark so unlike generation 5, make your mark didn't. have a pace parts of fim,also remember certain seasons,and even the human version of the ponies sinoff felt rushed,maybe had Gillian like Lauren had been allowed to slow down,maybe make your mark would've been better received,also maybe Hasbro wanted to put out generation at the end of 2019-2020,but covid put those plans on hold,then paramount pulled out,and Netflix was the only company willing to saddle up the generation 5 ponies,and plus it seemed after fim,Hasbro wanted to create a hub type steaming service so future cast,and crews could have time like hasbro did with fim on their hub network,plus knowing now the Hollywood is on strike must put pressure on Hasbro,since they won't have voice actors,crews,and writers to iron out chapter#5,6 of g5 mlp,so it seems covid,and the strike not only hit hasbro studios,but all of Hollywood,so if some of us generation. 5 has been bad for mlp,it might hit other parts of Hollywood that studio's like Hasbro rely on,all cause most folks in Hollywood freak out about stuff like a.i.,or covid they can't control,since other current movies like barbie,and Mario Brothers seemed even more rushed the generation 5 make your mark,I guess studios like Netflix want more creativity,and this hurts studios need mlp to better paced like fim was,so mlp makes for toys,and probably future generations of mlp,it seems just like music side of Hollywood where as long as music sells,plus Lauren until added depth to fim,and so it became very popular for newer fans like us bronies,but once hasbro wanted more human ponies in the eg spinoff,Lauren moved her deeper ideas,and even if Gillian took over in make your mark,I feel part of it is than Gillian trying to fill gaps from fim to g5 mlp has rushed partly cause Netflix is a here today gone tomorrow studio,with creative projects,meaning they're rigid,and Hasbro in its successful generations of mlp are given flexibility,and are given depth,and some generations like g3,and g5 didn't have the spark while g1,and fim did,and 2 seemed sorta us school version of mlp,this makes me wonder if generation 6 is created for 2024 to make mlp 40 years old as media brand,since it seems Hasbro's bigger problem that some mlp fan groups have moved,I've learned this watching 45 years of MLB,and every seasons some teams stink,I feel the problem. is that some fans aee burned out,and maybe hasbro is reaching this with mlp,especially if every generation seems to repeat stories even fim followed scripts,and until fim most folks felt mlp was just a advertisement for colorful cartoon horses primarily at young female fans,even go Joe did this with mostly male fans until Hasbro hooked up with directors like Micheal bay to make live action,and remember. that the early 80's version of go Joe was better than it descendants,especially when hasbro felt gi Joe needed a emperor serpentor,I felt cobra commander was the ultimate bad guy,but I feel part of habro's weakness is creating toys,and since mlp has given Hasbro billions of dollars why wouldhasbro stop creating future generations even if like g3 mlp ,g5 regressed,I feel some of fans are to blame for helping hasbro really work the fim as mature as we asked hasbro to make them through our conventions,and fan fictions,and now like some championship teams if the next season goes down hill,we blame the team,without realizing even the best teams fail sometimes,cause we put their predecessor as in fim on a pedestal,and like all creative projects sometimes its descendants in Hollywood,even in Hollywood. the saying what goesup must come down,even other creative projects like the Simpsons have failed at close 40 seasons which if the Simpsons were like mlp,and had generations,the Simpsons should been put to bed in the year,even star wars,and star trek seem to be running out of steam not that the mlp generations haven't had a good run through hopefully a 6 th generation think how some cast,crews,and fans after 40 years April 2024,and 5 probably. 6 generations actors like Tara strong still doing voice acting in 2023 when she started in 1985,this is why I sorta liked the ponies Woodstock to start chapter 4 mym cause it blended the past 4 generations,I felt adding 7 extra episodes in each chapter ofmym was overkill since the pony version of Woodstock could have spread it out 7 more episodes instead of 2 episodes,and this problem hasbro might to solve when they create generation 6 mlp,like I should moderate my views of mlp,especially generation 5,but if we truly understood why hasbro creates mlp we might appreciate more than just fim,in the time hasbro has created mlp,think how many other cartoons,and brands came,and went,all looking for the spark of creativity,and money that hasbro got out of mlp,maybe these ponies need to rest,and be put out to pasture even as cartoon horses,not saying hasbro will do but even realize next April her ponies through have run their last generation unless 6 is created after this November so in away generation only last 4 years,somehow fim had the spark after 9 season,even fim writers like mitch Larson felt either season 4,or 5 would've ended fim which until fim lasted 9 seasons each other generation of mlp lasted about 6 years,and 6 seasons,and if chapters are like seasons in a book generation will end right November. 2023,and proves fim was unique in 39+ years of mlp,but maybe fim wore out the ponies of mlp,like running a car hot like fim,and then realize mlp may need to cool down,my point being that these ponies have galloped over 39+ years,especially. fim,and if we humans ran the way fim ponies ran our horse shoes for future generations might need a little cool down,like driving a race car,even at the top speed the best drivers shift into lower speeds,or the car,human,and tires melt from pushing the car so fast,and maybe is going back in lower speeds not to wear their ponies,especially their human cast,and crews,not saying generation 6 might be less dull than generation 5,but after 39+ years hasbro may have to if they want to keep creating mlp,all my points that we should realize how old mlp will be in April 2024,and reason they've created 2 college age groups,and for someone like who had to take extra to graduate,I'm impressed the ponies of mlp are still galloping going on 40 years,since most real horses only last 25-36 years,so if a herd of cartoon horses are almost hasbro must be doing something right to keep most of us fans wanting hopefully more than 5 generations of these ponies,since when mlp started in April 1984, I was going into 5 grade,and now in 2023 i'm 32 past high school,and trying to keep going,and Hasbro's ponies help me,cause of their endurance,and through them I get hope of more friendly helpful future,so if hasbro creates generation #6of ponies I might watch,but I'll still have 5 generations to enjoy of mlp,my major point besides rambling like hitch trailblazer is to appreciate Hasbro for creating these little colorful horses,as fim has shown each of us have our favorite generation,but we should look at the larger picture,and fanbase,and without them#4 fim,#5 mlp,and even #6 of mlp might not be created,since these cartoon horses would have stayed folks like Bonnie's dreams instead of our fans reality through places like build a bear during fim,and giving actors like bahia Wilson the vocal emotions to bring these ponies to life,and what about all the conventions us fans have gotten to go to cause of mlp 1-5,and probably. #6,plus we through our fanbase made mlp more than a one continent herd of colorful horses,but a worldwide herd,and all of us fans have lit creative fire, happiness,and alot of work under us humans worldwide all for appreciating Bonnie's dream of ponies that teach us friendship,diversity,and working together.

Respect if you don't like G5, but I'll never agree to this view point, no offense. For me, there will never be anything about G5 that make the Mane Six's accomplishments look like in vain/like a failure, due to the following reasons; 1. We can imagine it happened long after Twilight's time in Equestria (I think the comics contradict this, but that is just one canon.) 2. Even if things went wrong at some point, the fact that things were so easily fixed in G5 shows that friendship is ultimately still magic - I mean, it was going to go like that anyway, because it's a kid's show, but look how quickly the G5 ponies went from centuries of not talking to each other, to mostly acting like they've been friends for a long time - for the most part, the only characters who seem to be taking time to warm up to the idea of all pony types being friends, are the characters who are supposed to be wrong anyway, everyone else seemed to pretty much get on with it, showing that what Twilight showed us never really went away - Equestria just had a temporary lapse, in the long run (yes, a temporary lapse that last for centuries or something, but a temporary one none the less.) Again, I'm cool if you if you don't like G5, but it's just never going to look like this to me - if anything G5 in part shows that what the Mane Six did *does* matter, because they were able to get back to that format, after seemingly not having it for a long time.

I wasn’t about Twilight and her friends be stupid. I was referring to all of the ponies that were turning on each other in the movie, comics and shows of generation 5 and how that foolish and immature behavior was effecting their children.

I think there are several problems here: 1) Animation, which was problematic from the very beginning, it repels rather than attracts. 2) Plot holes, it is not clear what happened to Twilight, where Celestia and Luna are, I have a lot of questions, with that Equestria, there is a violation of the main lore (the situation with Opalin). Here, some write that the problem is in trying to connect G4 and G6, but I do not agree with this opinion, it was just done by the scriptwriters very ineptly, I wrote about this in paragraph 2 above. Personally, I would be very happy if a continuation of G4 with the same heroes was shot in G6. In fact, the end of G4 was supposed to be the beginning to G5, it would be possible to continue the story.. eh... I really want to see Twilight, Equestria under her rule, and of course Luna and Celestia, this is my favorite trio. I really hope Hasbro does this.

I think the major problem is that the Writers at Netflix weren't allowed to develop or flushed the story out well, and had too many restrictions place on what they could and couldn't do by Hasbro. The transformer's Netflix series was another good example of that, boy were the dialogue were really bad. I think the movie was really good, and the series was FINANLY starting to get it's footing, in the last instalment, which wasn't that bad, but was too late.

@@ZaneLikesCheese I would be too sure what they are, maybe their were given the instructions of keeping it a for a very young girls audience and took it too literally. One of the mandates G4 for example was to push toys and playsets(obviously), but also to maintain the status quo, like most of the shows had to mostly happen in Ponyville and Twilight couldn't really be given any additional responsibilities or duties as a princess and just Sticked around and limited the amount of adventures outside they could have had. Season 8 finally had a chance to their mission of spreading friendship(which should have happened years ago) and especially 9 seem to have ditched the mandate it all together, with Twilight ascending to the thrown, and found back a lot of with whimsy of the earlier seasons.

⁠@@mix-up9003That's not really the case. Hasbro wanted G5 to build upon the success of G4, and did grant creative freedom to the writers, but the writers really missed the mark on it. Not to mention that Hasbro failed to market the franchise properly, and tying it to Netflix sealed G5's fate. G5 had a lot of potential, but it's become the biggest failure of MLP since G2.

I'm not surprised. G5 has NOT held up to it's predecessors; most of the other generations were very cherished by it's target audience and adult collectors alike. G5 was such a drastic change from G4 in what I believe to be a short amount of time. There wasn't enough time to REALLY develop a new generation of My Little Pony that would be well rounded, deeply loved, and decently written. The reason I was so disappointed with G5 is because it feels SO mass produced. The character designs, animation styles, story building, etc. feel lackluster in comparison to what we've received in previous gens. The doll lines were cheap and repetitive, there was no attempt to even *try* catering to an adult collector with the new gen body molds, and I've never seen the G5 toys sell out. I could go on and on, but overall, this is exactly the ending to generation 5 that I was expecting. Other generations (while still definitely being major toy ads lol) at least had passion and thought behind their shows and movies. I feel as though there was VERY little of that same passion here. While I wish we could get a gen4 reboot, I'm not getting my hopes up. The show did run for 9 years, and I'm not sure how well the ponies would sell with young audiences now. It would be awesome to get G3 nostalgia on the shelves again, though.

They have G.M. Berrow. As for Faust, FiM didn't always had her. And some of amazing things FiM got happened after she left, for example good LGBTQ+ representation, even if just a coincidence.

@@sorubitten Well I somewhat see your point, but I’d accredit the other main successors of MLP to Meghan McCarthy, M.A. Larson, Amy-Keating Rogers, a few other writers, but mostly them. Writers *like* Josh Haber are who lead the show into a dead end. And omg yeah my bad, I forgot about LyraBon, ur right. I think Lauren would’ve approved since she was always nice about background pony headcanons. (I also choose to believe RariJack & TwiDash are canon, Josh Haber will pay.)

The irony of this is.that Gillian developed fim with Lauren,so it seems this is more than who runs the ponies,but who is deciding how the ponies develop since had Lauren kept running the fim ponies,they might not have had 9 seasons,just saw a quote by MA Larson aka mitch were he felt there were only going to be 3,or4 season's of fim ponies,and then a cool down to develop what has become make your mark,tell your tail generation 5 mlp,also makes me wonder will hasbro keep creating mlp especially if they keep putting different versions out for groups of fans,plus I've noticed that g5 mlp hasn't had the conventions where cast,crew,and fans could get to mingle like fim did so the 3 groups could truly understand each others. needs,and wants,and truly become cohesive like certain sports teams have done.

Some stuff looks better in 2d than 3d Disney probably learned this hard way,when they turned Timon,and pumba from a 2d meerkat,and warthog into 3d,even artificial intelligence might not havesaved them ,lucky they haven't gone 4 d yet it might be even scarier than 3d even news with enhanced graphics freaks me out sometimes,but in Japan they already have 8d which is even more intense than 4d,,so I guess we're lucky,plus bionly have one eye to see out of,most stuff looks 2d around me,also these enhanced. graphics don't bother me unless I'm in a theater,and need 3 glasses,then everything looks blurry,I would rather have a audio version,like reading a book without pictures,lets my mind get very creative in interpreting stuff. more fun,and I get deeper in what I'm doing since my mind has to figure stuff out.,which enhances my interpretation of the stuff.

The problem is we didn't create these cartoon horses,so whatever style they're its hasbro's call,it would be nice to give hasbro idea's,what ponies would appeal to us,and what voice actors we feel would express the ponies emotions,and other manners as in behaviors,since this would determine if we bought the ponies as stuffed animals,and if we watched future versions of mlp,then Hasbro might keep get money to create these ponies for us fans,this is the quandary of fans,and popular brands is not every version is going to appeal to everyone,but Hasbro has been lucky with mlp since April 2024 these little horses have been trotting for 40 years,and each version has been between 4,an 9 seasons on average,and have had 8-26 episodes each,plus specials,and movies,this why if they put currently the 5 generations on at a movie theater most of us would be there weeks,and movie theaters would love us for buying alot of snacks,and Hasbro might love us for supporting the horses they create for us,but even the most popular stuff has to end its creation period. at some point,no wishng mlp would end,just saying that this happens for alot of us,unless someone else revives stuff like mlp,just saw how had fans of star trek not kept it going till now in 2023 it would've ended in the 1960's,so I appreciate most versions of. mlp,since these cartoon horses bright up my days when I'm down,and give me good ideas to make more friends and learn diversity as Bonnie created these ponies to do for all of us fans whether guys,or girls,I find it interesting that when Bonnie brought the idea of cartoon horses teaching groups of humans about diversity,and friendships,Hasbro balked,and now almost 40 years later hasbro leads the diversity,helpful friendships philosophy forward through colorful cartoon horses,since why did spin master/nickelodeon create paw patrol they're. just a dog version of the ponies of mlp,and now this diversity/friendship idea is all over the place all cause a woman had a idea about real then toy ponies,I understand why mlp is mostly female,since in real horse/pony herds its the female that leads,but its cools that guys like some of fans can enjoy these cartoon horses,as well as the real horses if we go to equestrian farms,and learn to ride,and take care of the horses,and most horses as long as we don't startle them appreciate us as humans,since at a recent state fair,I met a woman who has horses,and she said horses are very aware of us just by showing. me how the horses reacted to me,almost got to ride a pony,but found out was too old to ride the pony,but got to ride a camel,and I though riding a horse was hard,the camel seemed harder,partly cause I was sitting on its hump on it back without a saddle,luckily the camel wasn't startled,like a horse can get,I found what hands as in height on a horse means,and this why I couldn't ride a pony,I was taller than a pony,but just big enough for a camel,or horse,the horse I met wanted to eat my shirt,probably thought it was food,the horse seemed to enjoy my company while I was learning about it,learned never startle a horse was kicked by one on a farm trying to feed it,but walked in the horse's blind spot,and got a nice bruise on my ribs for it,this is why with enhanced magic I wouldn't mess with applejack in fim,or even sunny in generation 5,since the magic probably amplifies the ponies body,so they might even out do Shetland ponies in our world,learned Shetland ponies are the toughest breed of horse on our world from a bbc nature program on horses.

Trying to make G5 a continuation of G4 was the biggest mistake they could make. It should have been in it's own universe with it's own story from scratch like all the past MLP generations. There was simply no way for G5 to fill the shoes that G4 left behind. G5 needed to be its own thing, not a cash cow retcon for G4.

If they placed to focus of g5 around flurry heart or maybe twilights own student i think it would sell more because it has a direct link with g4 and could have recurring characters in special episodes. I agree. It's an interesting idea to have it set in the future of G4 to make things easier to change, but they really should've continued with Luster Dawn. Maybe the story could start out with what we all thought might happen - Luster becoming an alicorn, and the show begins with the craziness and uniqueness of Luster Dawn learning how to be a good alicorn princess and future leader of Equestria with her friends. Also, what would Luster be the princess of? Probably not friendship again. Flurry Heart is another character that could be in the show, because she is most likely ruling the Crystal Empire alongside her mother as the princess of Light. (Love, Light Protection. Cadence, Shining Armor, Flurry Heart :D) If G5 is supposed to be G4 in the future, it should've been way further in the future than what it seems to be now.

My Little Pony fan of 20 years here. Grew up with G3, loved G4, love G1. So many amazing qualities to these generations that made my little pony one of the most magical toys out there. G5 completely flopped with what made my little pony successful. They lack magic, fun, love and there is no drawing us loyal fans back to what made them so special. Huge disappointment to us long term fans not only in the story telling department but also the toys. I am already looking forward to the end of it and the beginning of something that can bring all of us fans together.

Honestly, controversial opinion, but I think G5 failed because it took the series in a way that strayed farther than even EQ. EQ, despite the panic, was more like Barbie and MLP combined. Essentially, every little girls dream come true. MLP G5s depressive nihilism (implies most of the characters are dead?) and goofy dimwitted nature wouldn't be so dreadful if it WASNT trying to be a spin off of G4, which also allowed it to have little to no identity. I still firmly think it's obvious that G5 was suppose to be different from G4 entirely until the 4chan leaks happened and Hasbro really panicked. If Hasbro learned anything from this, its to one get a streaming service that's more accessible (people cutting Netflix from cuties to budget I think hugely limited this shows reach) and to have more test screenings. More importantly, go back to NOT using celebrity actors. I agree that despite going back to G3 style content and that likely getting hate from bronies, the G3 nostalgia is big enough from zoomers and young kids alike. An even more intelligent move is to just expand off of the EQG premise and make a generation exclusively about human and pony worlds meeting. Or hell, I think making G6 a gaming series like G2 was might be the best decision overall since television isn't doing so hot in general right now.

If Hasbro wants G6 to be a success here’s what they need to do. They need to develop for a good number of years (I’m not an insider so I don’t know how long, maybe 5?). The problem with G5 was that it came out too soon after G4 ended, and from what we know it changed concepts a lot. Originally it was going to have the G4 characters as the main characters. I think they should take inspiration from Monster High G3. It’s still new, but it’s been a success so far. And it’s very similar to MLP G5, both have Cgi cartoons and both are a toy brand first and foremost. But one important thing about Monster High is that they’re show is on Nickelodeon not Netflix. And Nick has a much higher kid audience then Netflix. Maybe one reason why Tell Your Tale is “allegedly” doing better than Make Your Mark, is because it’s on KZbin?

I think there are several problems here: 1) Animation, which was problematic from the very beginning, it repels rather than attracts. 2) Plot holes, it is not clear what happened to Twilight, where Celestia and Luna are, I have a lot of questions, with that Equestria, there is a violation of the main lore (the situation with Opalin). Here, some write that the problem is in trying to connect G4 and G6, but I do not agree with this opinion, it was just done by the scriptwriters very ineptly, I wrote about this in paragraph 2 above. Personally, I would be very happy if a continuation of G4 with the same heroes was shot in G6. In fact, the end of G4 was supposed to be the beginning to G5, it would be possible to continue the story.. eh... I really want to see Twilight, Equestria under her rule, and of course Luna and Celestia, this is my favorite trio. I really hope Hasbro does this.

I find this ironic since g5 make your mark was made for older fans of mlp,and tell your tail the younger fans,so both should have had success,maybe Netflix just kills stuff cause of its algorithms,while you tube is more relaxed,but I find it funny in mym how sea shell,peach fizz,and glory sorta joked they viewed you hoof all night to impress pipp the next day with the fillies dance moves, like the cast knew they were 2 versions of generation 5,and Google as you tube let the cast have fun,and Netflix didn't,wonder if hasbro got make your mark on paramount would it be just as successful as its you tube sibling,I notice hasbro's been lucky with netflix,since other shows who got Netflix as a partner didn't even get a 2nd go around ,while hasbro in September is getting chapter 5 mym,then chapter 6 in late November 2023,then according to Wikipedia they have to start working on generation. 6 unless they sneak in chapter 7 mym,if hasbro created a disk with generation 1-5 mlp on it how many hours would it be,just got all chip and Dale rescue rangers on Blu ray,and with 65 episodes of 24 minutes each it takes. awhile to watch,even during covid in 2020 this would've been a long haul,imagine watching scooby doo from 1969-2023,and he's older than the ponies of mlp by 15+ more years,this type of videos should be shown in big movie theaters,then the movie theaters will love us,since I would need alot of coca cola,popcorn,and nachos,and a aisle seat,and probably a sleeping bag for a sleep over,and extra money if i needed to stay a week,or so longer,and imagine if future generations of. mlp are between 6-9 seasons aka chapters long,even fim out did 1980's inspector gadget and inspector gadget was only 86 episodes in the 1980's,and we got slice of life at episode 100 in fim,even generation 5 mlp has more chapters than 1980's inspector gadget,since g4 fim,and g5 mlp have lasted combined 15 seasons,aka chapters while 1980's inspector gadget just had 2 ,since in April 2024 the cartoon horse's of mlp are turning 40 years old as media brand,since escape from midnight castle g1 mlp aired on 4-14-1984,and I was still in grade school,so I was about chip,and dales age in their 2022 movie back when the movie started back in mid 1980's,not that I hung out with male cartoon chipmunks back them,imagine if we could.

I tried G4 MLP because a friend recommended it and I was pleasantly surprised over it; I didn't like every member of the Mane 6 but that is immaterial. The movie for G5 was alright (although I'd like someone to explain why the Windigos didn't come back when the tribes stopped trusting one another), and I liked the fact that it was an Earth Pony this time who got to be special instead of another unicorn or a Pegasus as it felt like they were the special races in G4, and Earth ponies were the farmers with nothing else special about them. Then I had mixed feelings about the Earth ponies getting their own brand of magic as 'Yay, they're special now too!' but at the same time 'How are they different from Unicorns, disregarding the horns?' And then Sunny developed her Alicorn magic over the idea of everyone eating healthy? That was seriously a WTF moment for me and, as a female, I felt a little insulted. Like, when the Earth ponies were jealous of the Unicorn and Pegasus, Sunny couldn't access her magic until the three tribes helped each other. And now she's sprouting her horn and wings while talking about a community garden? I hope whatever replaces G5 has more respect because it feels like they've gone back to endless giggling and tea parties.

The easiest answer is like most G4 stuff they didn’t bother to try to follow G4 continuity. They forgot about the Windigos and Hearths Warming, they forgot about how Alicorns age. And to answer the Earth Pony thing, in G4 Tirek is shown stealing magic from Earth Ponies and Rockhoof turns feeble when he gets his stolen, showing that the magic Earth Ponies had was their strength. Also look at the message from Twilight: she is shown in her pre-timeskip appearance. Except we know from G5 that she stored magic into the Unity crystals layer on and were used to make that message, which mean it could only happen after the end of Season 9, some time after the timeskip. Twilight would’ve been in her Celestia-esque appearance. They just used G4 as a crutch. They didn’t care about anything from G4. I would also point out that Posey’s portrayal is insulting to all the other Poseys and Fluttershy.

Yeah, G5 sadly didn’t live up to expectations. Too many problems from the story being messy, to the animation being subpar at times, the Netflix exclusive releases, reliance on Chapter and Special releases instead of full seasons of 26 episodes, writers not having a clear vision, and especially the fact it’s always in G4’s shadow as a sequel. My hopes for G6 are a soft reboot and maybe a more mature series with an ongoing story arc instead of a slice of life show. Also, return 2D animations and have seasons with 26 episodes again.

Chapter 4 seemed like the show had finally found its footing Another major problem with MYM aside from the first 3 mediocre chapters was the batch released format The cgi series must take a ton of time to make and a lot of money for batch releases to only kill the hype and sure everyone is talking about it for the week or so it comes out but then no one talks about G5. It doesn't have the same impact that G4 had on online culture not even a small spark. Just look what batch releases did to another popular series like Jojo and how it killed any chance it got from being talked about Honesetly the reason TYT does so well is that its on a free platform like youtube and the episodes release weekly (well bi weekly now)

That's been my biggest problem with the series, it's made for binge watching instead of a weekly release schedule like G4 had been. You watch the episodes all at once, enjoy them, talk about them for a couple days as others are catching up, then once everyone has caught up, you forget about it until you hear about the new batch coming out. But you forgot what the previous episodes were about so you might binge them alongside the new episodes. but after a week of no one talking about it anymore, you forget what the episodes were about. And only 8 episodes per "season"? Nowhere near enough time to develop the characters or anything with any meaningful development, everything is so rushed to get to market. Plus, like I said before G5 even came out, they needed to wait a few years after G4 ended before they brought out G5. It was just too early for many fans still "grieving" over G4 ending.

Yeah, the first couple chapters were a bit iffy, but Bridlewoodstock and Charter 4 were really a step-up. It definitely has a lot of potential, and I would’ve liked to see the new Mane 6 characters go on adventures outside of Maretime Bay, Bridlewood, and Zephyr Heights in the future.

I was not disappointed in G5. I’m so grateful we get something just as great if not just a little less cherished (remember, G5 has fans too) with the relevant lesson of acceptance. I will say I don’t want it to end so soon. It was finding its footing with the first three chapters and the movie was amazing, and of course it is still loved by many, including myself, but I will miss it and be sad to see it go so soon. I had high hopes for G5 being a decade long, but I guess it had to end so early because it didn’t have enough time to become like G4 and because not enough people seem to have liked the series. I will still be sad to see it go though, and I’m surprised it may end so soon.

I wasn't disappointed by it either (okay, there two throwaway things that did disappoint me, but G4 disappointed me too at times, and I still loved it.) I ultimately love G5 as much as I love any other generation, even if it is probably lower than at least G3 (favorite generation) and G4 (favorite show in general) I still ultimately have have the same amount of love and nostalgia for it that I do any other generation - Make Your Mark especially had the same quality as everything that had come before it to me at the end of the day, it felt like My Little Pony... I was more than fine with it. I will say though, we don't know for sure it's over, but if it is... it will still be around in fanon - it's fans (including myself) will make sure of it.

I think there are several factors pointing to why MYM may have missed the mark, the biggest ones being: -The prevalence of modern technology in the show's universe. When the ponies in this universe have smartphones and social media accounts, I think that takes a lot away from the fantasy elements. Plus it leads to a lot of unnecessary and unsubtle winks and nods to the TikTok/zoomer generation. If you aim to appeal to [current generation] instead of aiming for a timeless appeal, you need to re-prioritize what you should be aiming for imo. -The 3D animated approach. I judged the appearance of the character models pretty harshly when the promo images for the movie first came out, and while I admit that the models looked a hundred times better in motion compared to the still shots, I haven't changed my mind in that these designs are vastly inferior to those of G4 which, by comparison, were _extremely_ expressive and endlessly endearing. Beyond that, MYM's animation quality took quite a dip when compared to the movie. This is hardly anything unique to MYM, in fact I'm hard pressed to think of a single TV series adapted from a 3D animated movie that doesn't look embarrassingly inferior compared to its big-screen counterpart. Even my 13 year old niece admits MYM looks cheap compared to the movie. -The streaming model, i.e. the binge model. I'm a firm believer that binging a show takes a lot away from the experience. The more traditional model of sequentially premiering episodes over time makes watching a show almost a communal experience, with fans discussing the events of the most recent episode, theorizing on what's going to happen next, etc. That sort of fandom-y goodness can only come about when you give people the time to process and reflect upon the episode they just watched. Putting out all the episodes at once does not encourage that, since most people will tend towards jumping straight into the next episode before they've really had much of a chance think about what they just saw. It's just a really bad model for fostering enthusiasm in viewers imo.

Another thing to add onto about your point on the streaming model. It also can tend to alienate those that haven't yet finished all the content from interacting within community spaces since they want to avoid spoilers. That had started to happen to me when G4 episodes were being leaked seemingly more often in the later years, I had clicked on a random fan video and it had content from an episode that hadn't aired yet in the US. I noticed that I was more hesitant to watch MLP content since I wanted to avoid spoilers.

1. Unpopular opinion, but I've never felt that technology takes away the fantasy element for me. Not only have things like smartphones been around so long that they don't feel modern to me anymore, they just exist, they handle it so naturally in G5 that it just feels part of their world to me - if they had been more in your face about it, then maybe it would have been a problem, but they just do it casually, like it's part of their life, so it feels natural to me. I also don't think that having current references stops the show being timeless personally - it also doesn't feel like they're appealing just to the current generation with what they're doing either in my opinion (which includes the social media stuff), it feels pretty balanced to me, like they reference older stuff as well, so it's not that they're only appealing to the current generation, IMO - they're just not leaving them out. Either way, technology has always fit into fantasy perfectly for me - they don't feel exclusive to me, but actually go together. 2. I personally love Make Your Mark's style, and feel it has it's own identity (which is basically "My Little Pony"), but respect if you don't. Also, while I love FiM's artstyle I thought it was too expressive in the later seasons (again, I respect your opinion if you feel different) - I liked it better in the earlier seasons when they were expressive enough, but didn't go overboard with it. 3. Never thought about that, but that's actually a good point - I don't mind streaming and binge watching, but that was actually one of the many awesome things about G4 that it was a big deal when the next episode got announced and the build up towards it. I dunno if it will help everyone, because it feels like people are complaining about G5 "not getting to the point" or "not explaining enough" even though it's obviously supposed to be taking its time to tell the story. I agree with you, but if I'm right about these people, they'd probably complain about this side of G5 even more (unless they simply think that, because all the episodes are available, the writers should explain everything immediately rather than "padding" the show?) Well, remember that the previous CEO, Brian Goldner (RIP) was an executive producer on G5 movie. He had faith in Hasbro's products and really had huge passion going on for it. The new management that replaced him seem to only be focused at making money, so what made Hasbro great in the past is gone.

No, that’s not the reason. The reason people hated G5 was because they announced it a continuation of G4 and proceeded to crap on G4’s continuity (Alicorns are shown to age very little in a thousand years time yet Twilight is somehow dead(?), Earth Ponies never had magic in G4 (Rockhoof and all the ponies Tirek drained beg to differ), dragons having to earn wings is retconned, G5 constantly forgetting how Alicorns work, the missing races, and that the Windogos contradict the entire premise of ANG), while barely ever furthering the plot/events of G4. It’s that they use G4 as a crutch. G5 probably would have done better plot wise if it tried to be its own thing.

I’m a firm believer that Make Your Mark struggled because the story slugged along at such a slow pace. BUT, I am a fan of Tell Your Tale. TYT is actually really cute and charming, it gives the characters actual personalities, and explains plot holes from MYM. If anything Cleo I would give Tell Your Tale a chance, it’ll grow on you.

I won’t give its artstyle a chance though. It’s very poorly done, most of the main cast barely resemble their characters (especially Pipp and Izzy). Dynamic movements from the characters look all sorts of wrong. They don’t follow proper line of action. The animation has less errors than MYM sure but the animation itself is arguably worse. Yeah MYM is stilted at times but at least the movements aren’t horrendously bad and fake looking. Unlike MYM the facial expressions are next to non existent in TYT as well. But idk about cute and charming when they had that fart fetish episode.

Netflix said they were proud of the series perfomance so far, but them continuing with tell your tale seems fair from a marketing standpoint, short episodes (considering kids have a shorter atttention span it's great), faster to make, it's free which means more viewership and it's doing very good compared to MYM and FIM combined, according to the official charts, so I don't think there needs to be a huge fuzz about it lol, it's not ending, but so far there's no MYM greenlit for next year which is really sad to hear tho :(

If Gen 5 does come to an end, I feel it's downfall can be placed on three things. 1. "The Main Series Being Netflix Exclusive... And staying There." Netflix's relationship with Consumers has been... rocky to say the least. Long story short without getting into its controversies, people have just been getting fed up with Netflix and have been jumping ship to other places and instead of noticing the signs Hasbro instead chooses to keep it there despite the fact if they posted it on cable they would have a higher chance at getting noticed. 2. "Gen 4 Was Still Fresh In People's Minds." There just wasn't enough room to breath for Gen 5. It honestly came out just far too soon, Gen 4 had practically just ended and now we're being thrusted into a new world that's a continuation of the previous Gen? It made it feel like ending Gen 4 was, well, pointless. If you were gonna continue it anyway, then why did you even bother ending Gen 4? Speaking of... 3. "Its Status As A Sequel Series Killed It Dead On Arrival." The single most devisve thing about Gen 5 as a whole, its status as a Sequel to Gen 4's story. Normally this wouldn't seem like a bad idea until it's revealed that the future has gone back to the three tribes BS again. Uh, what? Excuse me? Didn't we litterally have a whole series dedicated to FIXING this sort of thing and ensuring/future proofing it would NEVER happen again? Where are the Dragons? Where is Twilight? Are we even in Equestria anymore? The Three Tribes Story Again raises questions the movie never answers and the setting itself was a divider with some not minding it while others outright despised it. I'm of the latter camp because, to quote Joshscorcher himself, "Good Messages Dose Not Excuse Bad Storytelling" but overtime it seems like the later half of the divde grew in numbers as Gen 5 went on and the only thing that was even remotely good... was the comics... that BARELY anyone in the fandom read anymore... Yeah...

I've never liked G5. The story plot was flawed and everything Twilight and her friends did was just thrown out. It was such a drastic change from G4. My biggest problem was always the way the characters looked. The 3D models just made them look so creepy at times and I didn't enjoy how they included phones and technology in it. Nothing that they've produced recently has been a hit like their past merch. The toy models are just so weird looking, mostly in the eyes. I've never seen kids or adults go wild for those toys like I did when the old brushables were still out. I genuinely want that nostalgic excitement that would bring people of all ages so much joy just because of a cartoon.

I respect if you don't like G5, but I never felt that everything The Mane Six did was "thrown out" - if anything the message I get from G5 is that what The Mane Six did still holds value, due to how the characters we're supposed to side with are clearly full embracing the value of friendship and everything else was fixed pretty easily, as side from with character you aren't supposed to side with. I love how the characters look personally, but to each their own, and I also don't mind the usage of phones (as it was done naturally and casually) and technology (because technology has always been part of fantasy for me anyway, and MLP is a fantasy show.) I definitely have nostalgic excitement for G5, but respect if you don't.

I wonder how much of it was the cost trap. G5 (well, the mark version at least) was a lot more expensive to produce than G4, and the more expensive something something is, the more 'by comity' it becomes since you really need to maximize its audience... which initially sounds good, but it makes shows more risk adverse and generic, which kinda draws in more people but fails to get anyone all that excited.

Well it's a shame if MLPG5 didn't work out as they had a good concept going but it seems as though it wasn't really thought out as well as they had planned. I loved the movie that started it all but I think with the series they focused too much on trying to create awareness concerning certain life issues through the show that they missed the mark of how to combine it well with the storyline. I mean no offense to the *Make Your Mark* show but it sometimes looks like the plot in the show has no idea where it's going in itself. I'm not sure if it's trying to follow its own dynamic or trying to follow the dynamic of *Friendship Is Magic* cause it's flip flopping from one to the other. It seems like it drags out the lore a bit and over complicates how it's trying to teach the simple life lessons it's trying to instill in kids. Another thing that's jeopardizing it is how they try too hard to merge the G4 verse with the G5 verse while maintaining their own plot in G5 but there are just too many conflicting contradictions to the story as well as too many plot gaps, for example, up to now we have no idea why Pegasi, Earth ponies and Unicorns had their fall out that led to their division and we're no closer to understanding the mane 6's involvement etc... It was better executed in the first movie but it seems like it wasn't entirely planned for after the movie. The *Tell Your Tale* series is better done in my opinion. It has more lore in short time and it has the crazy hijinks and thrills that gives G5 its own image. At times I can't help but wonder if they had used the lore intended for *Make Your Mark* in *Tell Your Tale* which is why make your mark isn't as certain about where it's going and is stuck in a kind of limbo Another thing, they focused too much on making the toy popular that there hasn't been the same effort put in the shows itself. For example, there was the idea for a G5 equastria girls toy line but there hasn't been much hype through the show to promote the idea and I'm not even sure where in Make Your Mark or Tell Your Tale they're going to put the equestria girls thing in. Okay more or less, they put tto much effort in picturing the final product that the process has been neglected if that makes sense. However, I still hold hope that things might turn around and work out for the best.

I was a big fan of G4 AND G5. I think much of the hate we see is people who came into G4 in the middle, and don't understand what it's like to have a series actually dribble out lore and developments in real time like an old fashioned, weekly TV series. IF they binge watch a chapter, and haven't been spoon fed literally every detail, then they call it a "plot hole" and complain. Then there were the "save G4" folks who, frankly, made us all look bad. I think G5 had every possibility of achieving great things, but the whiners manage to take it out before it could build on its own foundations. Slow clap.

I agree that people often call out supposed plot holes, not because they're actually inconsistencies, but because they're simply not explained. Just because something isn't explained, doesn't mean it can't be explained. I'm annoyed by that as well. However, G5 raises so many questions around every corner that the illusion that it's even set in the same world as G4 completely breaks apart. Also, it's insufferably boring. I was ready to get something entirely new with G5, but instead Hasbro decided to have G5 be burdened by G4 while also trying something new at the same time, the worst of both worlds i think.

I’m sure it has nothing to do with the fact that G5 never attempted to follow G4 continuity. They couldn’t even follow plot points as simple as the last drew discord of Season 9: forgot how Alicorns work, forgot how dragons work, forgot that Earth Ponies ALWAYS had magic, and used the recognition of G4 alone as a crutch. It would have done better if they didn’t make it a continuation and be its own thing like the previous gens were.

Appeasing Lauren Faust a little more would have helped. She knows how to write, and a good story sells toys. So Hasbro being stubborn against her wishes for the sake of selling toys went against their main goal in the first place, selling toys. Talking down to kids and treating them as brain-dead doesn't help, I think this is one of the main reasons G5 failed, tho there are many.

I love MYM! (Even though I mainly just watched the debute movie; gonna watch the series with my mom) As an Owl House Fan and having Disney cancel the show, cutting off season 3 to 3 45 min specials, and not even letting the creator of the show (Dana Terrace) and the cast and crew have a say and them being told it was being canceled when s2b was in production, this is also very heartbreaking. I hate it when your favorite beloved shows that end up in MAJOR success end up being canceled all together, letting the show or series only having a few seasons, and not let them get what they deserve. The Owl House helped me really understand how much hard work, love, care,and hours are put into animation in general. It is totally unfair! IMO, I think in general if they kept the original voices of the Original movie debute, I feel like MYM would have helped make at least a bit more success than what it's ended up to be.

Being honest, I am less surprised and sad about it than i thought I would be. You're on point, G5 simply isn't good enough, and I don't think this has to do with bronies having unreasonable expectations due to nostalgia: it really feels like a hollow shell living from its past glory, but at the same time trying very pathetically to hide this fact. The first movie it's the thing that rubs me like this the most because, if you think about it, you could erase all the references to G4, and the history will be exactly the same. And that's without mentioning the contradictions, like the whole "ponies lose their magic when in conflict" thing. Ok, this one was corrected later, but it reeks so much of retcon and afterthought that I am not sure if I see as a positive thing. Aside from that, there's this "pony life energy" all around, which means that it tries too hard to be "modern", but has no idea how to do, so it end up being just embarassing. Slapping the concept of e-celebrities, phones and tablets all around isn't conecting with younger audiences, it's just shallowness. Granted, it's not as bad as Pony Life, but that's not a very high bar. I think the pacing too didn't make the show any favors. For a long time it felt like wasn't moving to anywhere. Yes, Opalin was present since the second chapter, but to me felt like a long while until things changed from Mysty trying to get Sparky. I don't know, maybe it's the way the history was delivered: having to wait so long for the main series while the status quo friendly youtube shorts were the most present thing about the series didn't felt great. Not everything was bad tho. I still think lot of haracters had a good potential, even if it was mostly wasted. I particularly like how some characters are alternative takes from the previous mane 6: Pip could have made the e-celerity schtick work if she was as interesting as Rarity; Hitch rmade me think of a goofy Twilight; unfortunately Sunny and Zip felt like nothing burguers to me, even if Zip got slightly better in tell your tale.

Just think about that, Hasbro as the company full of greed for money like Crusty Crab, they will most likely work more on TYT because TYT look requires much less work and resources, it's accessible for everyone on the internet (on KZbin) and good for their profit. MYM is better but requires much more money and resources it's not easly accessible for everyone (requires partnership with Netflix and an Netflix subscription). We all know that Netflix also loves money and it will not participate with Hasbro if they don't have money deal between them. And even if they choose to not partnership with Netflix but still doing MYM that is CGI form style (design), they still need to spend a lot of money and they do not like that. It's not profitable for them and also their main audience is kids, not us adults. Brony is the thing from the fandom, not from the Hasbro itself. They still in their minds thinking that mlp is for little girls only - not to mention making kids more into LGBT and in a very wrong way - for example, just imagine the boy that was completely into girls are now into both or into boys only and also with the other genders too. Going from what I've seen from the toys, I think the G5 toys haven't sold well. And since Hasbro will judge MLP's success off its toy sales, I think it is safe to assume the company may at least be looking to start cutting back. I work in a toy shop, and I can say from working there, MLP toys don't seem to sell that well. The largest toy store in my country, Smyths Toys, has pretty much stripped its MLP section, both online and in store. Though I'm not that much of a fan of G5, I was quite devastated to see Smyths seemed to be no longer stocking it last I went there (funnily enough, they'd replaced the MLP section in the store with Mermaze Mermaids, which has been discontinued). I agree with Cleo, I don't ever see children going around with G5 merchandise, whereas G4 used to be everywhere on everything. G4 had a substantial cultural impact on both children and adults, and whilst G5 never needed to aim that high, it seems to have failed generally to keep the attention of its child target audience, or of its potential older fans. That could be down to several things. The design of the toys is unpopular. The quality of the show drastically decreased from the movie. The show couldn't decide whether it wanted to be something separate or apart of g4, and so its become a muddled middle ground of trying to reframe itself for a younger audience whilst also trying to grab nostalgia points that doesn't fully win over either side. Part of me wonders if MLP not doing well is just a sign of changing times and trends with children. Because MLP media (apart from g4) has always been...a little shaky at best. G3 had (much worse than g5) low-quality film and tv media, but it still sold well. Children (including me) loved it. And the only thing I can think of that G3 really has over G5 is quality in its toys, and that it was around long enough for its characters to become 'iconic.' So, is it just that children have different interests now? If so, that really sucks. G4 remade the mane 6 as toys over and over again because they too became iconic. Maybe that's what G5 lacks, iconicness? Uniqueness? Maybe it would be worth doing a deep dive into MLP history to uncover the reasons why each gen succeeded and flopped? Maybe that would help provide some ideas for where g5 seems to be going wrong? I am worried for MLP. I may not have liked G5 very much but I will always love and adore the franchise and I don't want it to disappear. I worry for the franchise especially because the Basic Fun g1 repros also don't seem to sell well. If g5 is ending within couple years, rebooting g4 in some capacity would be Hasbro's 'safe' option. But even then, G4 became iconic because it put a fresh and unique spin on the MLP formula. Hasbro likely won't get far just soullessly trying to rehash that. I want to see a completely fresh and new MLP g6. Give the ponies a new setting that isn't a generic. Make interesting designs that are completely different from anything the brand has done before. Make new interesting characters in a vibrant interesting world. Make it unique. That's my message to Hasbro. That was a long post phew!😅

I think one of the main reasons that G5 is doing so poorly is because of world events. G5 launched in the middle of the pandemic, then the war in Ukraine kicked off, plus people are dealing with higher costs for pretty much everything, which will translate into lower sales for things such as toys and people willing to spend money on streaming services that honestly aren't what they used to be in terms of content anymore. Plus, the show just doesn't really have that same spark that captured so many people's attention the way Gen 4 did, so yeah, it's not really a surprise that this generation is failing.

@@Nika44 I totally agree! 😆I'm an mlp collector and it was g3 that got me into the hobby and g3 ponies are the ponies I love most in my collection! I know part of my love for them is just nostalgia from when I was a kid, but though they are quite simple, they are so well designed and well made. You can see the heart that was put into their designs! I don't really get that with g5, and it's a shame. G4 was and still is exceptional. Beyond just what it did for mlp as a franchise, the impact it's had generally can't be easily matched. G4 makes the shows from all the other gens look so bad! That doesn't help g5 either.

And the streaming services too, yes I agree. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere the most major streaming services are losing a lot of customers. None of this helps g5. Like you say, it would need to have had a spark, or something to make it stand out, to succeed in the current state of the world. G4 was so unique in its art style, its direction, its humour, its characters and lore. It's no surprise people of all ages loved it! I agree, it's no surprise g5 is not doing so hot. To me, MYM feels like a return to a more generic children's show, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just means it fails to stand out in a sea of so much competition, especially since its predecessor did so much to stand out. And I still love it. Also I remember few college students that had MLP G4 accessories. I am not seeing ANY G5 accessories anywhere. Problem is that none of characters is truly relatable, I can't pick one or two and say "yes I love this character" because in MYM they all are kinda...boring? In the movie I thought I will be huge fan of Hitch and Izzy or Zipp, but now I don't know, I don't feel close to any of them and other characters outside of main cast are almost non existing so...Ok I don't want to throw hate on MYM because it is still not bad and it don't deserve hate, but still, we can't argue that it would work better as it's own show, not continuation of G4. I really really hope that there is a G6. I feel like it’s just silly to end the MLP franchise now. It’s been around since our parents were young. If they don’t continue with mlp in some way shape or form I’m going to personally be so upset. They need to fully renew the next generation and at most keep similar names. Their biggest mistake was them connecting G5 to G4, it should’ve been it’s own thing, that’s why G4 was successful bc it was different than previous generations, sure it was inspired by it’s predecessors but that’s a given. I feel like for the new generation they should’ve made a reboot of G1(for a new generation),since it’s old enough to reboot. Imagine seeing Megan back? Imagine seeing the witches? The door of legends? Glass princess. Bushwoolies. The bees. Stonebacks I could go on and on. There’s so many things that weren’t throughly explored in G1 that could be seen as new in a new generation, the issue with them continued/being connected to G4 is because we practically know everything, it doesn’t feel fresh. A reimagining of G1 would be fantastic.

I think there are several problems here: 1) Animation, which was problematic from the very beginning, it repels rather than attracts. 2) Plot holes, it is not clear what happened to Twilight, where Celestia and Luna are, I have a lot of questions, with that Equestria, there is a violation of the main lore (the situation with Opalin). Here, some write that the problem is in trying to connect G4 and G6, but I do not agree with this opinion, it was just done by the scriptwriters very ineptly, I wrote about this in paragraph 2 above. Personally, I would be very happy if a continuation of G4 with the same heroes was shot in G6. In fact, the end of G4 was supposed to be the beginning to G5, it would be possible to continue the story.. eh... I really want to see Twilight, Equestria under her rule, and of course Luna and Celestia, this is my favorite trio. I really hope Hasbro does this.

I think the end of Make Your Mark is partly to do with the fact that 3D animation is hugely expensive. Tell Your Tale is easier to produce. G5 is trying to take some good inspiration from G4 but the plots meander nowhere.

It certainly doesn't feel rushed, IMO and I never got the feeling it wasn't planned quickly, if anything it feels like they're taking their time, and that is what is getting complaints (i.e. they're taking too long to answer questions and just showing the Little Ponies goofing around, even though that's how a show works, IMO - you balance the storyline stuff with the fun stuff, so to speak) I do agree that only being on Netflix can be a flaw (one thing pointed out to me is that, as a whole group of episodes are available instantly, there's not build up to the next episode, and it's a lot easier to isolate the fans who haven't seen everything yet, which was less of a problem with G4, as it was on TV.) I do sort of agree that the should have just made it it's own thing, as that worked fine for G1-G4.5 (that being said, it's also weird they made it a sequel to G4 when G4 and G5 already have a generation between them) and maybe they should just leave connecting the generations to the fans, if they want to connect them, but on the other hand... G5 really does feel like it's own thing to me for the most part, despite being a sequel to G4. I also give them the benefit of the doubt that it's not about money, because... that's just how I look at things.

When I saw the thumbnail, I thought that they had cancelled it right now, which would have been very bad timing since the second batch of episodes actually got something going. At least it sounds like it might go on for a little while longer. I am curious about how the 'working as a spy for the good guys while pretending to be a minion for the bad guy' dynamic would go for Misty. I am also curious about why Sparky is so interested in that one tree, since that mystery is still yet to be revealed.

Forgive my comment, but there was many things that went wrong with the handling of G5. unfortunately IT IS going to carry over to other generations of MLP. I think it's a shame that this end is ending so soon, especially since Izzy Moonbow is the first pony I can happily say was my best pony. same as me, creative but lonely on the inside and longing for some friends. However, *breaths out* I also think FIM is one of the reasons Tell your tale and Gen 5 as a whole didn't do well. there was a good story there in this new gen. there was new ideas that could have stood out on it's own but whether or not it was on Netflix only or on mainstream, bronies were going to compare it to FIM ether way. there were going to judge it harshly, they were going to try and connect the world to gen 4 in anyway, shape or form, they were going to say FIM was better. The creators did make the mistake of connecting the two from the beginning, though, bronies were going to do that anyways. finally word: from mlp, gen 5 and onward, Mlp fim, set the bar so high that any gen that appears won't come close to the love gen 4 got.

Honestly, I'm glad that G5 will be ending I mean I'll miss it too but if you think about it a lot of people have speculated that G5 wouldn't last as long as G4 did anyway. Hell I myself once said that in terms of how long it would last I guessed that it would probably end in 3 maybe 4 years tops. So if G5 ends in 2024 or 25 then so be it.

Same I like G5 but i'm also ready for it to end, Not any time soon but eventually. And if Hasbro makes G6 then here's hoping that they will make the 6th generation of mlp it's own thing. It's high time that they leave the legacy of mlp G4 behind and just put it to rest, I mean I'll miss it but there's nothing wrong with starting the next generation from scratch.

They should had only made the movie, or maybe a few movies in the original quality but not a series. The movie was so well written and had such a high quality. I loved it. Maybe they should go back to the original G4 characters. Hello Kitty proves it every day: if you have a good design - keep it going.

Honestly if they want g6 to be a success they need to scrap equestria. No cameos, no call backs it’s done. New show, new world, new ponies. Just like they did for every other generation. Maybe MAYBE they can have some background callbacks to older gens in season 2 but season one needs to stand in its own four hooves.

Make your Mark would have had greater success, in my opinion, as a multi-part film (Think like a trilogy, like HTTYD), with the same quality as the original film. Tell your Tale could have filled that pony-shaped hole in people's hearts while waiting for the next feature release.

​@@robertcioveie8113That's because the EQG movies have 2D animation & less-known voice actors. Meanwhile HTTYD trilogy are not just 3D, but also have Hollywood actors in them. MLP G5 would be even more successful with high quality CGI & the guys from Hollywood.

I don't think its the end of G5, but certainly its the end of 3D animated projects. Hasbro don't say their sales are bad, but Make your Mark doesn't have traction that Tell Your Tale is bringing. Hopefully those 22 minutes specials are a test drive for 22 episodes of Tell Your Tale, also with one of the series off they can bring all the continuity issues to rest. Another reason that I think that had influenced this decision is the frequent complain to follow the story in 2 different mediums(Netlfix and KZbin).

The jump to 3D was ill-advised to begin with, and I think had a lot to do with how MYM faired. They just didn't have a budget for a good 3D animation, so it looked awkward and felt hollow; especially crowd scenes, which were stark and empty because every extra model costs money they didn't have to spare.

While Tell Your Tale does seem more of the slice of life parts of G5, and some plotlines are watered doen a bit, it does seem to be the show to focus more on in the coming ways. The 2D was also the heart of G4, so naturally it would make the most sense to replay some of the lore and story still left from Mark Your Mark and A New Gen. While I don't think G5 HAS to be just like G4, the movie did well; I think of the problems is mainly the writing, I did hear the writers are being held back by Hasbro and not gettinf more for development, but still...

@@aquasparx4015 I agree the main problem is the writing, but I think its other way around. Make your Mark is aimed to a younger audience than Tell Your Tale. A simple comparison could be "A Day in the Life" and "A Little Horse" that have the same plot, in Tell your tale the plot revolves about "Why you should take care of yourself" while the one in Make Your Mark... I'm having trouble finding a meaningful message.

You think G5 would've been more successful had it been released on Discovery Family like G4 was, and THEN release the full season on Netflix AFTER its TV run? Cause one thing I've noticed is with shows made exclusively for Netflix, they tend to get released with like next to no fanfare.

Honestly, G5 was/is a mistake and a HUGE downgrade from G4. G4 was revolutionary, it was for all audiences Lauren Faust really brought it to life. G5 not only retconned the happy ending we waited so long for by once again dividing the pony tribes and all the other species were practically forgotten about. G5 should have been it's own thing. I hate how it uses G4 characters to try to boost it's audience. I hate all of the G5 characters, I gave the movie a chance and the only thing it has going for it is the animation THAT'S IT. When the 3 pony races were seperated in g4 they were all gonna freeze to death, (also the windagoes are nowhere to be found in g5) but in G5 the tribes hardly interact and there are no steaks. Also the lesson at the end of the movie was honestly gonna be a great end, they said they didn't need the magic and they could all live in harmony. Sunny did not deserve to become an alicorn and so damn quickly too- It really starts to make Alicorns less special if all you have to do is believe in friendship. Twilight and her friends went through so much and I'm upset that hardly matters. What I wanted from G5 definitely wasn't this. Honestly a reboot is also a bad idea too, just make a new story it would be more interesting. Or if you want to continue off of G4 atleast not make the characters based of the mane 6 ( -1 + spike clone). Maybe make more world building or something. Not just rehashed ideas.

Honestly the end of G5 just makes me wanna go to hasbro and make them let me write stories and come up with ideas because i have thousands of ideas and seeing G5 just makes me mad that they wont happen.I also really dislike that all of this starts so soon after two and her friends just fixed everything, all their work was for nothing.
