One thing i liked about each mlp generation is that THEIR PLOTS NEVER OVERLAPPED AND DID NOT CONNECT TO EACH OTHERS STORIES!!! I have literally watched every other mlp generation (including gen 3.5) and non of the other generations plots connected, it should have stayed that way.

I wish they'd go more in-depth with everything. If they really are continuants of G5, why not explore Canterlot one episode and discover secrets of the past, especially if they're trying to do this whole "Twilight" thing. I'd be much more interested in having the characters explore the past and find the answers to these things, instead of where one of the characters sings, and they just bounce around. Overall, I just wish G5 was its own thing. This is embarrassing.

It amuses me how people reflect on what the series lacked. That he should not have made a connection with G4, that the project does not know who he wants to be, all these arguments would make sense if G5 met at least the most basic quality standards that apply to the story, such as a coherent narrative, clear characters and motivation of the characters and simply the presence of there is logic in what is happening, this is a base that is obvious to everyone and should be even in a story written by an amateur. But there's not even that here! It's not even fan fiction, it's just rambling nonsense. The quality of the script is so low that I think they deliberately wrote a complete crap out of the thought: "children are stupid and they need a stupid story."

G4 had 9 seasons over the course of 9 years, starting in 2010 and ending in 2019. G5 had 6 seasons over the course of a year, starting in 2022 and ending very recently in late 2023. G4 took its time pumping out seasons and it turned out, G5 just rushed them out over the course of a year and we all know how it turned out. This feels like what happened with Dragons: The Nine Realms, where there were 8 poorly written and poorly made seasons pumped out over about 2 years. In other words, they should’ve spread the seasons out to take the time to actually make them good instead of rushing them out so quickly.

It's so weird they tried so hard to shoe horn in g4 references and call backs, despite the fact that the world and rules in G5 are completely different and completely inconsistant. Theyd have been better off just letting it be completely separate, or at the very least, having Opaline originally fought by a descendant or student of Twilight and that's it. It can be it's own generation just like all the others. It really didnt need to be connected, it just weakens it overall.

Chapter 6 felt very rushed they met the dragons, defeated the main villain, and traveled to starlight ridge, and made a new enemy. If they had spread this out it would have been better, imagine if all the 2 part episodes in G4 were thrown into one season, that’s basically chapter 6 of G5

My problem with G5 is that they don’t really add anything new. My example is how opaline is a alicorn of fire. So why didnt they add the other 3 elements? It would’ve been cool if we saw an earth, water, and air alicorn. That is something new and could be great. But no, instead they deeply rely on G4 since it was a hit. But you might say “why would there be element alicorns, that doesn’t make sense” well if they did add element alicorns we couldve started there and continue on to G6 and that could be the new mark and it would’ve have an already started plot line like G4 did. As much as I considered Chapters 4-6 an improvement over the first half of MYM, many of your points are pretty valid. Opaline's off-screen turn from a pathetic, whiny b*tch to a flat-out monster was pretty stupid and made this chapter feel even more rushed than it already was. For the dragons and the reintroduction of Spike, I just rolled my eyes because, at this point, I'm used to G5 creating plot holes when it comes to forcefully tying itself to G4. Anyway, I'm still glad that I watched MYM - I gave up on Tell Your Tale after MYM's 4th chapter as it was that irritating for me - and I'll miss it with all its flaws. At least it gave us Misty. BTW, one thing I realized that resulted in MYM and, by proxy,G5 being the way they are: Gillian Berrow, MYM's showrunner, worked on some G4 materials, particularly the comics and books. That's where details like the Isle of Scaly and Skyros were mentioned. Basically, G5 is built upon the extended G4 universe, not just FiM. The problem is that most fans are only familiar with the FiM cartoon; only hardcore G4 fans read the comics and consumed any adjacent media to the OG show. Of course there will be anachronisms because G5 isn't a sequel to FiM but everything pony that came out between 2010 and 2019. Which is why I wish G5 would be its own thing instead of being an extension of something that cannot be topped for many years to come.

I think they reference G4 all the time because they know it was likely their most successful iteration of MLP and they want to keep capitalizing off of its popularity even though it’s over. To me, it feels like all G5 wants is to be popular and make money, but because of that mindset, it loses its own identity and just becomes this "cute girly pony show devoid of any logic or brain cells." In my opinion, the concept of G5's story sounds good in theory, but it was just executed in the worst way possible, and because of this, it becomes a lifeless clone of G4 that ruins its entire legacy and everything it worked on for 9 years, just so we could watch the G5 characters do it all over again. While G4 had its own flaws and wasn't perfect, it still TRIED to be something unique and didn't rely on the previous generations for its story. G5, on the other hand, is too busy trying to G4 that it didn't try to carve out its own path like G4 did. It kinda feels like a sick metaphor for people who strive for popularity. If a person, or in this case show, tries too hard to be popular, they abandon their own identity to do it and just copy what's popular, thinking that being what's popular will make them liked, but that's not how it works. G4 worked because it stayed true to itself and didn't try to be anything else, and that's why I think it was so successful. G5 tries to hard to be G4 that it fails to acknowledge why g4 was so successful. It's just really sad at this stage of the game, and I'm kinda glad MYM is getting canceled (I think). I just hope G6 doesn't make the same mistakes as G5 and hopefully stay true to itself.

I don’t want to say that this series is insulting to people who grew up with g4, but you can really tell in this final part especially that the writers who worked on this do not know a whole lot about the previous series. It just kinda feels to me that they were initially given a synopsis of g4 and the main characters, but weren’t paid enough to care about the rest. In all seriousness, the main characters, Misty especially, deserve so much better and it’s a shame how bad g5 went downhill since the movie.

My biggest problem after the movie was the direction of the story they chose to explain what happened to Equestria. From the comics and show, they've made it so that there is no reason to watch Gen4, as *everything* Twilight and the Mane 6 did meant nothing in the end. It sucks, and it feels like they're choosing the worst ways to explain the lore of gen5.

as a former g5 defender i cannot express how disappointed i am with the series as a whole i thought the movie was good but everything after that was just blunder after blunder i dont even have the motivation to catch up on it bc im so tired of trying to force myself to like it it fails on every level to recapture the magic of g4, the writing is atrocious, the character assassination of twilight is absurd opaline is honestly one of the worst villains ive ever seen in animated history i literally have been rewatching all of g4 just to remind myself what a good mlp show looks like

IMO they should start again - get people who love the franchise and have creative spirit, know the right kind of people to make a show and aren't afraid to not talk down to people even in the intended target audience (and not be afraid to get people of all demographics able to enjoy it). Basically, we need another Lauren Faust in charge of a generation - and we need whoever that person may be to have creative freedom without Hasbro's shenaniganery.

The problem with G5 is Hasbro plain and simple. Changing Studios mid production between the movie and the show. Bumbling their own IP and losing control of it instantly hamstringing G5's lore building. Incompetent writing, or just a lack of interest in general. Hasbro wanting the show to target kids. Hasbro thinking kids don't need quality content with lore and story building. Hasbro pretty much talking down to its audience thinking they only want a show with silly colorful ponies on screen doing silly childish things. EDIT: That locket is actually Megan's Locket from G1. I am wondering are humans going to make a re appearance in MLP now? Probably not...

The G1 locket was either just another nostalgia bait reference, or someone on the writing team was a fan and wanted to integrate a little bit of MLP’s legacy in G5. But considering how heavy-handed the G4 elements in G5 are, I’m inclined to be cynical about it :/

Like i feel as though just a pair of the original 6 could take her. I saw someone say that this series was either Twilights feverdream after too many haycakes, or alternate universe like the starlight-magic table theory so its not the 'real future' as you said, which both make SO much more sense than anything the show actually gave us. the fact it contradicts its OWN lore that it brings in is just wild, writers be sniffing lines before getting to the office i swear

I genuinely convinced the people behind G5 hate G4 and the fandom it cultivated and wanted to revert the franchise back to generic stereotypical kid’s shows. There’s no way to accidentally spit in the face of your predecessor this much. I feel so bad for the crew of G4. Imagine working for 10 years to craft a show for all ages with all your heart and soul, give it an amazing ending, and then immediately the people behind the sequel to go “LOL UM ACTUALLY-,” and then stomp all over that for money while you’re forced to just watch.

You know what I don't understand? If you are going to create a new mlp generation, why don't you create a brand new and original world that can stand on its own, with meaningful characters and story flow, right? I really don't understand. If you are going to spend money on something, wouldn't it make more sense to do it with people who actually care about storytelling? So not only did G5 make Spike REALLY UGLY....they also totally disrespected the episode in G4 where Spike competes to be the Dragon Lord (only to protect his friends because the other dragons were planning to destroy Equestria) and he helped Princess Ember through the Gauntlet challenge and gave EMBER the honor of being the Dragon Lord and gained Equestria a new friend and a powerful new ally in Princess Ember....soo....why rip that beautiful story to shreds and give us THIS? Spike was the Ambassador of Friendship. So shouldn't he be a BIT more shocked and upset that thousands of years have passed, his friends are all gone and everything he and his friends worked to create in the name of friendship has now been completely destroyed and replaced with THIS?

8:43 you know I won’t ever watch G5 (probably) and will always consider it a separate entity/timeline/etc. from G4 due to how it ruins a genuinely fantastic ending, but even I can’t deny how incredible that one comic panel is. Narratively it feels like a review of how far Discord’s come and how much he was affected/took to heart from learning about the magic of friendship, and artistically it looks *spectacular.* I have nothing else, really. It’s poignant as hell.

(Copied my comment MadMunchkin's vid to here because, IMO, it fits my feelings and I'm too lazy to word it all in a new/unique way) If Hasbro would allow the sort of freedom, time, and effort, and care that went into FiM to be put into more of the MLP franchise (with as little corporate meddling as possible - hard as THAT may be), I'm sure more generations moving forward could be awesome in their own right. Just watching TobbyMLP's vid on FiM's planning, concept art, concepts, etc, I got the idea that this - combined with it being in the hands of people who were good at fleshing out ideas, planning, but loved the franchise too, was a huge part of MLP being successful (on top of not being afraid to be more than just some girly frou frou show that only pandered to little girls) helped make it as big a success as it was (combined with, to some degree, the fanbase, fandom being nurtured, of course). IMO this should be something that fans/the fandom push for - for whatever future generations bring to be able to come out with care, dedication, planning, and creative freedom (and focus on quality) that allowed not just FiM, but many other shows in many franchises, to FLOURISH over the past decades.
