***** Hm... That's a good point. We also have to keep in mind that the ones that wanted the alicorn kid are probably happy. But we also have to keep in mind that not all fans think the same, and there are some may not like the idea. It's never a good idea to loop every fan together. I'm not against the idea of an alicorn child, but I don't like how the show handled it.

This could have been a design error in mlp but I noticed that 3 canterlot guards were alicorns (Idk if they possibly used the same base of the pegasus and just added a horn and forgot to remove the wings or something but I like to think that there are more alicorns)

Shining Armor wasn't born nor raised to be a leader. He was raised to be a soldier. To protect his people from their enemies. He was taught to stand at the ready with a sword in hand and to only stand down when told to, when the so called threat was determined not to be one. He was taught to be distrustful, to hate, to fight, to kill. He was raised for war, not peace, and when there is peace, he was raised to defend it against anything that might threaten it. He is a knight in shining armor, a sword and a shield to defend those who rule. And a sword does not lead a country, a ruler does.

While true I'm saying a ruler cannot be a sword and shield alone. The princesses haven't been one to shy away from a fight when they were needed. Even Cadance fought that giant snake worm with Twilight. However, a good ruler must know when to draw the sword and when to offer a hand of peace. Shining ALWAYS draws first and must be convinced before he offers peace. A true rule must do the opposite, lest they start wars unnecessarily and endanger their people. Imagine if Shining's words or actions started a war just because he was prejudice against a species that while they have wronged him before, only come seeking peace and acceptance.

the first obviously but then if there alone they are no ruler and for the princesses while true i see them more as scholars and diplomats than true rulers. while yes they will answer the call they dont choose the best stick and they place to much faith in a few (even if its well placed). The only princess to gain my admiration for ruler status is tiwglet sporkle 🙂 because she while not primarily a fighter holds up better when forced to draw the sword but her true strength is the role needed to be both a ruler and a hero the ability to rally the masses (not sure about rest havent watched since end of s3 but considering catching up) and with shining armour fair point but you know what they say you can take a person away from the army but you cant take the soldier from the person.

You should watch Mol's video of why Princess celestia doesn't actually do anything, he makes a fair point there. The princesses are rulers, but they also have the power of the gods. you don't use a wrecking ball to hammer in a nail, so not every situation calls for the intervention of the divine. That's why there are soldiers and why Celestia calls on Twilight and her friends. Shev could easily handle most threats, but she does have a country to run, so she sends others in her stead that she is confident can handle the problem. When a problem does arise that truly needs her personal attention due to no one else being able to handle the situation quickly, she steps in, like with the Parasprite infestation or the Changeling attack. Yes, she did get her ass kicked in that last example, but only because Queen Crystalis was able to gain more power then even she thought possible. Watch the scene, even zcrystalis is shocked she beat her. But Celestia didn't just stand there and tell Twilight to handle it, she tried to handle it herself instead of putting her ponies in danger. It was only after she was beaten that she asked Twi and friends to step in as a last ditch effort, and even THAT failed. It was only due to Shining and Cadance tapping into some unknown love magic that they were able to stop the invasion in the first place. And when the Changelings came back in the recent finale, they only won due to a rogue changeling (once again) tapping into some unknown love magic and freeing his people from her tyranny. When Tirek showed up, Celestia sent Discord to capture him before he got too powerful, which would have worked if Discord didn't betray them. When Twilight got super powered by the other princesses and fought him to a stalemate, they wrecked half the country side and tore down mountains. Celestia did her best to prevent this by sending Discord(who she herself couldn't defeat without the elements) to tackle him first. She knows what she's doing when it comes to tactics and who to use when, but her plans don't always work which is why she always has a back up plan as well. Still, she plays the strongest hand needed for the threat first, whether it's herself, or someone or something more powerful than her. If she used a wrecking ball all the time when she didn't need to, her citizens might think the situation is worst then it is, and when it is bad, she tries to keep things under wrap and handle it quickly so no one panics and makes the situation worse. She doesn't need to deal with a rampaging demon only to have to worry about riots and panics destroying cities all over the country. She's a leader, which means she needs to keep her country together and at peace even while she's protecting it, either herself or through others working on her behalf. She can't be everywhere and do everything at once AND keep the country running. That'd be like asking the president to fight all of our wars by himself while fixing healthcare at the same time. They just can't do it, hence the soldiers and the proteges and sub rulers helping out in their stead. But back to Shining. I'm not saying he CAN'T be a ruler, or a good one, he just has to be taught how to handle that role and how not to act like a soldier before a ruler. He's a prince now, but he's more like a prince-consort/bodyguard/military leader then a ruler or politician. If Cadance were gone, then he'd have to learn how to do that. Twilight is ahead of him on that, being the princess of friendship and all. She knows how to organize and lead a large group of ponies when needed, she can fight, and she can handle diplomatic situations, like with the Yaks and accepting Thorax.

Am I the only one who's going to point out that being an alicorn depends on your sex! They are all girls! Not once have we had a boy alicorn! Not once! (Big Mac's dream self doesn't count) Also, when you become an alicorn or a leader, you are known as a princess even if you are a boy. Spike is a prime example of this. In that episode where Twilight had insomia, Spike said and I quote, "You could even call me *princess* Spike". He didn't say *prince* Spike. This makes it clear that if you become a leader, no matter what sex you are, you are regarded as a princess. Sombra is the one exception. He was the leader of the Crystsal Empire. He was King Sombra. But the difference is that he is evil. Also, with Queen Chrysilis, she is known not as a princess, but as a queen. This states that being a King or Queen makes you evil. Lauren Faust even admitted to doing this because of Disney's bad history of making King's and Queen's evil. Back to topic, is this why there are no boy alicorns? Is this why leaders are only called princesses? It was originally supposed to be clearer. Celestia would have been Queen, Luna would have been a Princess, and Blueblood would have been a Duke, but Hasbro said Queens are evil and kids don't know what a Duke is. That said, here's my theory on how to make all of this make sense and work. We could consider Celestia the Crown Princess of Equestria, Cadance the Crown Princess of the Crystal Empire, and everyone else who is a Prince or Princess would rank below them and is somewhere in the line of succession. Blueblood, prior to Luna's return and Twilight's empowerment (and possibly prior to Cadance's empowerment), would have been second in line for the throne after Celestia. In the event of Celestia's demise or inability to perform her duties, he would have become Prince Regent. Once a mare had proven herself and become an alicorn, he would be obligated to wed her and she would become the Crown Princess. This means that all Princes are tokens. They are an insurance policy in the event we lose the Crown Princess and have no Princess to replace her yet. It would also explain why Blueblood is so sheltered and spoiled. At one time, he was the only back-up plan for Celestia, and she had lost her own sister. It's only natural that he should be protected to ensure the continuation of the royal line. Now that he's depreciated so much in value, it would be interesting to see him have a life outside of being the emergency placeholder.

+King Camelot If being an alicorn was a matter of birth and not something that was earned that might make sense, but then again only if you ignore what you actually see in the show. In order for it to be a factor that is male/female specific, that would mean wings, horn or both would have to be dependent on something in the X chromosome and not the Y. Ignore for a moment how ridiculous that notion is in and of itself. How would the cake babies be anything but Earth ponies? If both X chromosomes must have the wing/horn input males could never have wings/horns at all. If only one X chromosome needs to have wing/horn, why are Mr. and Mrs Cakes just Earth Phonies? Mrs. Cakes would be Pegasus and Mr. Cakes a unicorn (as the boy is Pegasus and would have gotten the X chromosome from his mother, while the girl could have gotten a no wing X from mom and the unicorn X from dad). Then also, if it is a matter of genetics alicorn babies should be expected from Pegasus and Unicorn parents, and Flurry Heart shouldn't be surprising.

No, I highly doubt when Shining Armor becomes an alicorn that he'll be known as a princess. I mean, look at King Cosmos (Celestia and Luna's father), he's an alicorn, yet he's not known as a princess or a queen. He's known as a king. I know that Lauren Faust admitted to the whole 'you being a king or queen means that you're evil' shit, but I highly doubt that King Cosmos isn't even evil. He's Celestia and Luna's father for crying out loud! There are no male alicorns yet because none of them had accomplished anything that's big.

Interesting theory. Twilight held her own against Tirek, though, using her powers as weapons against him. I know she was juiced up on alicorn magic, but the fact still remains that she fought. I've personally never understood why the princesses are so weak when up against villains. My theory is that Hasbro wants the mane six to have the spotlight at all times, so they need everyone else in the show to rely on them. Making the princesses weak for seemingly no reason gives the mane six many opportunities to save the day. Which equals more toy sales. I like your theory of the alicorns being more of a symbol of hope to their subjects. Somepony to emulate and respect. I agree that Shining isn't ready to be an alicorn, but I still think he'd make a good one once he learns to take a few steps back and gain a new perspective. But all in all, I don't think there are any male alicorns simply because Hasbro wants to keep the hierarchy female, since it's a show mainly aimed at little girls. It's their formula and I highly doubt they'll change it. It would be cool if they did as a last hurrah for the show. Last episode: Shining gets his wings. :)

Looking back at this long after the series ended. I honestly have to ask: who are they to declare such absolutes after Chrysalis rejected, and undermined, Tirek scoffed, ignored and used a mocking and easily backstabbed position of "friendship", sombra once had friendship but embraced power and conquest, and Cozy Glow manipulated, twisted and corrupted friendship. Who are they to declare that it's impossible to hold the sword of destruction and the olive branch of peace and friendship? I honestly find that as absolute and unyieldingly incapable of adaption or understand that life flexes in such ways that just one method does not answer everything. Friendship can certainly answer a lot, but that fails to those who reject, twist, undermine or scoff or even condemn such things. What then does or could friendship do to those who do not accept it or worse use it against others?

OMG ikr i was asking myself the other day why isn't there any male alicorns in mlp and i thought maybe just like for prices they were just unicorns because you can clearly see there is only female alicorns in equestria but as ii said in equestria maybe its possible outside of equestria for a male to become alicorn or its just a female kind of thing you can do but this is my opinion and i just want to share it with the rest of you guys.

Interesting. I have noticed how weird it is that there are no alicorn stallions. If there was a new one, Shining Armor is probably the top candidate for that. There is a major contrast between war and peace. I think there is a good way to balance that. It is to have a defensive stance. That is to fight only when there is a treat that is already attacking. If there is no such threat, then there is no fighting. Shining Armour does show great potential for this balance. His name is Shining armor and he has a shield in his cutie mark. Both of those refer to equipment that protects and defends a soldier in battle. It is not as offensive as a sword or spear is. When Shining Armour first apears in the royal wedding episodes, he shows his special talent. He can produce a magical force field, that protects an area. Again that is much more of a defensive thing than it is an offensive thing. Maybe Shining Armour will be able to be an allicorn someday. I would like to see equal opportunity for males for something that is currently female-dominated.

I think that, if SA ever does have an alicornation (or as I prefer it given that all alicorns seem to enter the royal family at the same time, alicoronation) it will be when he does a certain specific thing, namely, lay down his LIFE to protect someone (either Cadence, his child or someone else) As a soldier he presumably has been willing to do this for a while, but up 'til now it has apparently not happened (given that he is still alive). I think that, when that time comes and SA sacrifices himself to protect another, he may alicoronate (which will presumably also heal whatever mortal wound he has received) and become Prince of Courage/Bravery (or maybe Sacrifice, if that mysterious seventh element stone never shows up again). And in that state he WILL become a symbol of hope, the hope that, no matter how dire things appear, there is always going to be SOMEONE out there who is willing to protect you, that NO ONE has to go it alone.

My OC is an alicorn but she has a dark and sad back story so I think its allowed. She was left in the woods by her parents as a baby unicorn and was found by a pony who brought her to tell Princess Cadence. They never found her parents so they kept her until they did. Her name was Songwriter and her cutie mark was a music note. Her friends are Vynal Scratch and Octavia. She became an alicorn not because she was looked after by royalty but how she was like Cadence when she was little. The only thing is, Songwriter didn't want to be an alicorn and always hid her wings from a spell and she helped people with another 2 friends Friend Finder and Darklight but they all wore brown hoods and gloves so no one could see there identity.

I do not think it was Celestia who turned Twilight into Alicorne. She showed him the way, as, in my opinion, Starswil showed her the way but is nothing more than a mentor and a counselor. Everything comes from Twilight and magic. I do see him well in the role of Alicorne of Protection. He's a big brother, husband, father and a high grade officer, protecting peoples is kind of his life goal as shown by his cutie mark. We also know he is quite proficient with protective spells as shown in Canterlot wedding. He literally turn back to face King Sombra alone to give time to his sister and her friends to reach the cristal empire. And let's be honest, i would have liked he take down the cliche that only females can become Alicornes. Because that sound a bit sexist.

Okay. Alicorns need to be pacifists then? Then explain Twilight fighting back against Tireck, and (although non-canon but still holds a little weight in my opinion) Evil Celestia and Luna in that other universe in the Archie comics. If what all you said is true then my morality lines up a lot more with Shining Armor than I thought. And Shining Armor being suspicious of Thorax is completely understandable. He was brain washed for a time, and his wife to be was replaced by the leader of the changelings herself, not to mention the whole army of changelings that essentially terrorized all of Canterlot once his shield was down. So yes I'd be skeptical too. I believe you should be trusting to an extent once it is earned, but do not let your guard down, that is how you get stabbed in the back. (Side note: Also when the changelings invaded Twilight and friends showed no hesitation in fighting back, like Shining Armor would have if he could've at that moment). So do I think Shining should lay down his arms? No. Based on the way he is portrayed he has done an outstanding job in doing his duty, and has only been beaten by things he was really unprepared for. He is no violent brute because he is a soldier, he is a defender of his nation, and his people's safety. Although I am not discounting the things that Twilight, Luna, Celestia, and Cadence have done, if all they ultimately are, are symbols of hope who can't fight, then I say Shining Armor should have none of it. Violence should never be a first resort, but sometimes it is necessary. In fact I like that Shining Armor's strongest ability is shield projection. It shows that he is more focused on being a defender of those he protects, but is more than willing, and able to be offensive in his tactics should the need arise.
