7:30 You have to give Nightmare Moon credit, she’s a very forward thinking and brilliant villain. She covers all the bases and possible ways ponies could try and thwart her from destroying the books containing the spells that could have other ponies raise the sun themselves, to constructing a sustainable and livable society. Makes me wonder what Nightmare Moon could have been as a recurring villain instead of being instantly cured in her first go.

A better idea would be to simply set the limit on checked-out books really low (like two at a time), and not let people check out more until they return the ones they have, like Netflix did with DVDs rentals.

I had to explain a children’s book my mother checked out for my nephew was lost in the same car crash that took my mother’s life to get them to stop sending letters about it being late basically because I was depressed I didn’t have the energy to go to the library like I love doing every Saturday

In the early 2000s I lost a library book and went to the library sobbing because I was scared they would ban me. They only made me replace it, which took a while because we were on a military base in another country. Turns out my friends thought it would be funny to hide the book in a board game box, one my family didn't play often. I found it 4 years later.

Good heavens. I didn’t realize that there were some library‘s that took it personally enough to file charges. When I watched this episode when it first came out, multiple bronies reacted to it on KZbin, and they clearly weren’t aware of this either. One claimed to actually work for a library, and could say for a fact That it isn’t a big deal, and that library fines cap at A month. Another made the same observation about fines so he must’ve had some experience at least.

So glad to see you back, Silver! Love your content. I honestly remembered the bit about the Nursing Home a lot more in this episode than I thought I would. Having had relatives go to Nursing Homes, there's a certain attitude that really needs to be seen more in media. A lot of people view Nursing Homes as jokes, but we also treat it like some sort of inevitability. In fact, growing older is given a negative connotation, even though we give the emphasis on coming into adulthood for kids. More media really needs to show 'older' characters living full and happy lives. Just showing them that life doesn't end after you turn 60 is an important message, since otherwise society treats Homes more like prisons, rather than next stages.

I feel like the portrayal of old folk's homes, in of itself, is a much needed commentary. Which sadly has not been acted on here in Canada. During the pandemic, a big event that happened was that elderly people were abandoned out of fear by health care workers (and a lack of funding). Many of them died where they lay, being unable to take their medicine or eat on their own

14:30 Time to talk about something rather old now. There was a old radio show called The Passing Parade by John Nesbitt (and it did show up on tv) from 1938 - 1949... give or take. Simply put it was a series one reel shorts. One was called Don't You Believe It and this episode talked about historical things that many believe to be true. Such examples being Nero playing a fiddle while Rome burned and the ride of lady Godiva. Long story short the show said that the story of her ride was nothing more than that... a story. It made up by people wanted to discredit her husband and the fact that she was naked was to appeal to people's "base" instinct and to make sure it spread. And for the record this is mostly from my memory because it is rather hard to find most episodes of the show.

The Way, more NORMAL Libraries Treat this: After tzhe Payment overgoes the Purchase-Price, the Person, that took the Book simply got to either Replace it, or Pay the Books Price, depending on the Price it costs to re-buy that Book. In one case I know of, the orioginal Book accidently went into the Washing-Machine (Always check the Puches), and it was replaced for 14,95€- not the most -hefty price. Ruining someone's life over a Book is just sick overkill!

Splendiforous as always. It's always a good time with your ability to be genuine and sarcastic, comedic and sincere, and critical and apologetic. It creates a delightful balance and I'm always eager to hear your take on the situations this show (and others) presents. Incidentally, I'd like to hear your take on the episode where Pinkie plays the Yavidaphone. It felt like the writers were saying that you should let your friends do drugs ( though I'm sure that wasn't the intention.) I would love to see you try to squeeze something redeemable out of it.

Speaking of timeline actually, I had once decided to try and track out a timeline via the holidays and seasons stated outwardly in the show while watching it on Netflix so only up to season four. This has actually resulted in me finding out the time between Twilight arriving to Ponyville and the start of season four was about five years. The most surprising part was the fact that, using the mentions of spring whether it be “spring cleaning”, winter wrapup, and Pinkie throwing a party, the timespan of season 1 to episode 25 would be about two years from what I estimated. Honestly, it was a pretty fun thing to do during the rewatch.

As a circulation clerk who works for Vaughan Public Libraries (when restrictions get relaxed enough for the libraries to reopen), I'm here to set the record straight, at least as far as common overdue fine and returns policies that I have seen for public library systems. There are two different fines you need to worry about on an item that has become overdue: the *overdue / late renewal fines* , and, if your item becomes 'long overdue' to the point where the item becomes billed to your library account, the *replacement charges* . Overdue and late renewal fines are on a charge per day basis, so say your library charges 25 cents per day per item, and you have 1 item that is 3 days overdue. You would be charged $0.75 on that item. And depending on how the library system is configured, the fees will start to appear after midnight on the first day your item was overdue, but the fines might not be applied against your borrower privileges until the item is returned, renewed, or billed because the system wants its patrons to keep borrowing items and using its services. Critically, and in relative relation to this episode, there is a *maximum allowable fine* per item category that limits how much your library can charge you in late fees. At VPL when I started working there about 6 years ago, it was $10. Then it got increased to $20, and then $25. The fines also changed, from 25 cents/day to 30 cents/day for most books, and from $2/day to $1/day for fast-track videos, with most movies having the 30 cents/day that books have. And by 'item category,' a different library system might differentiate between children's and adult books, while other systems might go by the media's form. Either way, once you reach the maximum, the library cannot charge you any more in late renewal and overdue fines, but by the same token you would be unable to check out or renew materials, so you would have to go to the service desk to get these issues addressed. At VPL there was a hard $25 limit, however you could have other charges on your account. What could really drive your fines up are the item replacement costs. These are broken down into the individual _item replacement fee_ and the _processing fee_ . The item replacement fee depends on the cost of the item from the library's supplier. The processing fee is usually a simple $5. If a patron is convinced they've lost an item they can pay these at any time, however once the item is billed they must pay or return the item to have the charges cleared. Some libraries engage with collection agencies. If an item stays billed for a long time, the system will generate a non-negotiable collection agency fee, usually $20. It can be payed at the library or through the patron's bank, or through the collection agency directly. My guess is that if the fee stays long enough, the agency engages the law to try to enforce the payment, as in the cases Silver Quill mentioned. The library won't tell you whether they have a collection agency, however you can usually find out if you read their policies and procedures on fines and returns. One very easy way to mitigate costs on long overdue and billed items is to *return the item* . This will wipe out the the item replacement fee and the processing fee, however depending on the library's policies, you may still have to pay the overdue / late fees. Additionally, some libraries will accommodate you on negotiating that fee. So there you go. I'm pretty sure the writers know how library fee systems work, but they chose to play things up for comedy this episode. At least, that's what I choose to believe, as a library clerk. EDIT: Yup, they know. How much Twilinanas would they have avoided if that librarian had just told them about the fee cap?
