Simon fastballs are the fast ones and a changeup are slower. Changeups often look like fastballs to fool the batter causing them to swing too early. Also you don’t always have to throw the pitch in the strike zone. Sometimes it’s good to have it look like it’s going to be a stroke so they will swing but it winds up ending up outside of the strike zone
