Honestly, all action and martial arts movies, even those grounded in reality, tend to include some "unrealistic" elements. Because the primary goal of movies is to entertain. Some scenes will make you go, “Oh, that’s realistic.” And some that will make you go, “Come on, now.” I believe it’s all part of the fun when going into action/martial arts movies (unless the movie’s that bad). As you guys mentioned towards the end, it also varies on the type of movie it is. And it depends on the cultural context behind the movies. Most Eastern martial arts movies often incorporate some kind of wirework moves/stunts because that’s rooted in their style of martial arts filmmaking. Regardless, Donnie Yen knows what to bring to the table, and I will always be there for his projects.

donnie yen is actually one of the more legitimate martial arts actors. sent 8 guys to the hospital a while ago when he and his gf at the time were being harassed. maybe they were drunk as hell, maybe they had no idea how to fight on the street, or maybe they weren't drunk and knew how to fight. regardless taking on 8 people is quite the feat imo.

The last fight from Flashpoint (the movie with the mma based choreography) is one of the best choreographed fights I've ever seen. Choreographed fights have to go back and forth, where the protagonist and antagonist look like they're going to win at different times. The fight actually approaches that realistically, because the antagonist is beating up Donnie Yen with striking, so Donnie takes him to the ground and I think eventually chokes him out. So he's using an actual strategy that you would use in a fight if you were losing the striking exchanges, rather than having some sort of emotional moment and then coming out and punching more gooder that you were before. I haven't watched it in a while, but I think he also uses the guy's coat for some gi grips and chokes too. He does get slammed on his head into a metal railing while attempting a triangle, which would probably have ended the fight, but it's a movie. Also, fun facts: clothing, especially multiple layers of clothing, actually provides very good cut resistance. The cheapest medieval armor was basically just layers of cloth and glue, which was enough to make you pretty much immune to cuts from swords. Not stabs though. What would likely happen with that cut in the knife scene is that it would cut through the leather, but it would get caught by the leather and probably slide over the jacket liner without cutting through. If it did cut through, the damage would probably be superficial. So that particular bit isn't unrealistic at all. Mike Tyson did actually break a finger while filming that elbow block stuff.

Couple things. 1) Those elbows were real in the Mike Tyson fight. Mike said that his finger broke in the fight scene. Surely those elbows hurt like hell 2) The guy on the left said something about directing Chi was it? That’s wrong. Donnie isn’t directing any kind of chi for shit. In Wing Chun there is no Chi involvement. Best not to assume every Chinese fighter uses Chi 3) When Donnie did the deep knee one legged squat, you 2 didn’t seem to realise his aim. Everyone knows a Boxer’s greatest asset is his footwork. Cutting a boxer’s legs is like removing the foundation of a great castle. Donnie went down to destabilise Mike, as boxing doesn’t teach you to punch DOWNWARDS. And if Mike can’t punch, he gotta kick which he sucks at as a boxer. When he kicks Donnie can intercept his legs and break the footwork, hence destroying the boxer’s asset. I don’t think You guys pointed out Donnie’s plan or didn’t see it.

This is definitely a cool channel with very cool personalities, but many of their viewers can tell what is and isn't realistic in film, so to not come off as completely condescending or overly critical toward classic fight scenes in the action industry, they should make it more educational. Explain, DEMONSTRATE, and suggest about better fight iq choices, takedowns, strategy, submissions etc. Obviously they can't do it for fantastical things like Jet Li vs Donnie in Hero, but if they curate their reactions to just "realistic" fights, there is more to discuss and less to joke. If all I hear in a donnie yen reaction is laughing at wire work or intentionally unrealistic moments, all while being a little judgmental toward chinese martial arts films, idk if I want to continue watching. Their tony jaa reaction was great because they expressed appreciation and respect for him throughout the video. There's also no problem with reacting to shit fights too just for giggles. It is not, but if you go to a musical, that’s what happens. The audience isn’t upset about it not being “real” - actually, the musical bits is probably half the reason they came. I get you guys are trying to insert comedy for content, but a lot of the "chi" and "it's a film" commentary are honestly not funny at all and very try hard. Yes, Chinese fantasy's gonna fantasy. Adding the "chi" comments in an obviously more realistic setting like Flashpoint and SPD was really cringe tbh. Talking about the techniques and damage and mentality of the fighters are the way to go for those type of fights.

Yeah they are just stereotyping and think its all "Kung Fu" Yet Donnie Yen is trained in many styles. Probably more than them both. They seem to have an arrogance to them because they know "MMA". Now a days if you do "MMA" you know it all I guess.

Not to mention that shaolin monks are known to strengthen themselves with chi (their words not mine) to keep from being impaled by spears irl. So maybe chi isnt bullshit

They are being condescending and racist. Just report and dislike the video.

Lol, typical whites thinking they're all that. You should see some of their replies in their comments. You can really tell how arrogant and condescending they are. Just bc MMA is a mix of different styles, they think that makes them the strongest? What a joke.

In a actual fight, you fight to win, but in a movie, you fight to look good.

Donnie gets lumped in to being a Wing Chun artist but he actually knows a lot of different fighting styles. I’ve seen him use BJJ in movies. I’ve seen him doing boxing drills on the punching bag. He’s an all around martial artist but unfortunately he is only mostly known for that damn Ip Man movie and the weak crappy Wing Chun. In his older movies, you can see him at his fastest. He’s incredibly fast and has an amazing sidekick. I think Donnie was heavily inspired by Bruce Lee. His real fighting style is similar to Bruce Lee’s and he can grapple too just like Bruce. But those damn Ip Man pro communist China movies.

I can’t believe you went through all of those Donnie Yen’s actions without his fight against James Wood in In The Line Of Duty 4……… This is like going through Maradona goals without his goals against England in the 1986 World Cup!

I've actually done that elbow strike block that you see in Ip Man 3 to a side kick during a sparring session. I doubt I'll pull it off again, but it was awesome and it really hurt the guys foot.

the amount of times these two say that a certain move is gay and are always hugging each other in some videos or watching videos of men fighting makes me start wondering about their 'friendship'
