Just upgraded to gold membership, because these videos are pure gold! I cannot thank you enough for what you are doing here, for your hard work and generosity, and for breathing so much life and energy into the music you play, my whole outlook on music (and on other aspects of life too) is changing for the better...I'll be quiet until I have learned Hanon in C# (the first half anyway!) but I will keep watching and learning, thank you so so much Greg for being such an inspirational teacher and excellent human being!

Hi Greg! I have used your one bar fast and relaxed method for Beethoven Pathetique 1. movement broken oktaves in the left hand. Works wonderfully. Now it improves. Thanks. 🙋♀️

I'm so happy!!! Indeed it works also for other pieces!

thanks for the excellent suggestion not to keep the notes of the main melody held but rather use the pedal: I put the advice into practice and verified that not only does it significantly increase the speed and uniformity of the sounds, but above all it significantly increases and improves the overall resulting sonority 🙏

Ok you’re right it’s going to take me a long while to get the Hanon down because I’m not used to playing all the sharps to do the Hanon. I was able to get through the first four today in about a half hour but doing all the phrases separately. Hopefully I can learn this C-sharp scale more quickly and I figure if I do several new ones a day it could take me a month or two to get through this if not longer, but I’m willing to put in the time also I’m starting on the hardest part of the prelude, bar 21 the second climax because then I think it’s going to be easier to finish the whole piece L. H. : I noticed you don’t use your thumb on the third 16th or at least if you do it’s not enough to notice it mostly you use a two with a raised wrist and then fall over onto the octave, which is very comfortable I had that marked with a thumb throughout the whole left hand so now I’m going back to try to do 1325 and 1425 as often as I can, but there are a few where I have to use the thumb. I know it’s less confusing on the brain if every group has the same fingering but I don’t think I can do it is that true for you as well or is your hand big enough? Thank you.

Thanks for doing these preludes Greg. I've been stuck on this one for a while at the putting hands together stage. I can only ever think about one hand at a time as you said, or I can do it by reading vertically but my brain has twice the work to do and I can only play very very slowly. I like your approach here, its like driving a car: we do so many things like shifting gear, checking mirrors, signalling, turning all subconsciously when our conscious says "slow down and turn". Will give it a try thanks!

"Etude....." do we know if this was at least sketched before Mallorca?? This tutorial brings home what an achievement it must be to play all 24 Preludes instead of a Sonata at the Chopin Competition. Enjoyable as well as instructive, as always - thanks😃😃

This is way beyond my ability. But there are a few prelude I can play. So I will look forward to all those videos and of course the few I can practice and play better.

is it enough to bring up the speed of just each grouping of the Hanon or should we connect and play the whole Hanson exercise at that tempo? Thx! 😅
@gregniemczukАй бұрын
You must connect them together Micky

But ... when Greg says to practice Hanon first, does he mean all the ... 60, I think, Hanon exercises?
