Its so funny to watch the evolution of her accent. She cant just show up with a full blown american accent again or everyone would be like "wow you are such a tool" ... so she is slowly working the public back towards hearing the american accent. You can tell there is a completely normal american accent under there. This whole Portuguese accent thing is hilarious.

I had a relative in a bad marriage in her 20s to someone with a strong accent. She took on his accent over time and it was awkward for everyone. Then they got divorced and and her accent went back to her original one pretty quickly. Makes me wonder if there is something about bad relationships that makes this kind of code-switching accent thing more likely to happen, as if it's a subconscious effort to reach common ground when it is otherwise lacking. Also, I just smoked some weed.

I heard people can lose their accent if they start speaking more and more languages. People have said that Arnie's German accent no longer sounds Austrian because he's been in the States for the last 50 years. I can kind of see her accent vacillating back and forth as does mine when I speak Korean and Mandarin. It'll improve when I spend time in Korea and China but drop off when I come back to the States.@@br1763

So cool that Mackenzie decided to be an American again :) I've never agreed with anyone having to pay their ex beyond the divorce. If an adult can't take care of themselves after a divorce, let it be their problem. It's not the ex's issue to be taking care of them the rest of their lives financially. So if this is true for Dern, her ex needs to man the hell up and start financially taking care of himself. Adults need to start acting like that. Sure, this is the easiest way out by taking advantage of a broken system, but this is when you need to do the right thing, not bend the rules to benefit such foolishness, regardless of the details behind closed doors.
