9:00 Sounds like thermostat may be "slow" acting or stuck, if temperatures do not stay high enough. Reducing radiator area does not seem like correct fix.
@mmatt4 жыл бұрын
Covering the radiator did actually fix the problem for now, but you're right, the thermostat should be keeping the temps up. I'll check with the mechanic and ask about that.
@mmatt4 жыл бұрын
My mechanic says there isn't a coolant thermostat, just one for the oil. So I guess that explains that... lol

@@mmatt all liquid cooled engines require a thermostat. Consistent operating temperature is the reason for liquid cooling. Maybe consider talking to Rotax for a safe solution. Nice video, thank you!

@@Skyhawk945 I have confirmed with Rotax that 912 engines do not come equipped with coolant thermostats. The solution they offer is cover part of the radiator which is what I've done. Wow that's a nice plane for sure. Absolutely perfect landing I noticed the power off just glided right down but had plenty of obvious air speed. Experiienced PIC makes it look SO easy! That oil light warning needs a circuit to detect nominal pressure.. The circuit could check both too low or too high and light the indicator. Wish I was there as I'm a retired electrical engineer and there's plenty of pressure detectors that output a digital binary range based upon pressure input. Typical vehicle "idiot" lights are lit up by the ECM in a similar manner.

May have a short to power or ground , not sure how its wired or what its wired to but it should in theory only be getting power or ground through the sensor, when the oil level is low. If its just on all the time there may be a short inside of the sensor itself, or a short to ground somewhere in the wiring for the light. Assuming its ground switched.

About the oil.... try to check the oil pressure switch. For sure the engine has a pressure switch to check oil low pressure (every thermal engine has it). Usually when oil press light goes off when you know for sure there is positive oil pressure (like in your case) means the pressure switch does not work good. To check it, identify where the pressure switch is located, turn the engine on and electrically unplug the pressure switch connector, it the red light turns off, you found your problem. Let me know if you want or feel free to send me a message to investigate further.

I think the oil indicator lamp is simply mislabeled and has nothing to do with oil. Rather it indicates the master switch is on and therefore you have or are using battery power. This of course is just a guess. You would have to see how it is actually wired.
