Naa... it was pretty trash even before the battle royal bandwagon as most were pay to win trash dumps. Really couldn't get into any of the new MMORPGs and found that it was mostly older ones such as guild wars 1 and wow which left memorable impacts on me. Newer MMORPGs I might play for a bit then move on, nothing memorable just a good time waster. Mind you I did enjoy final fantasy 14, but finding a good modern mmorpgs that is worth investing time in the sea of trash and free to play shenanigans that plagues today's games, is like finding a needle in a haystack. Lol at these 5-10 year road maps when they can't even make it past the 1st year without their own economy crashing and burning. They just don't make them how they used to sadly. Finding one with a good story and world building is also hard as game developer just don't seem to care anymore. Shit story, questing (oh god the intro of fetch quests) and monotonous ways to waste the players time in hopes of maintaining player retention is the name of the game for today's MMORPG. I still have hope though so I'm always on the hunt but have been disappointed far too many times. The only things that really improved I feel are graphics and perhaps one can argue the shift to real time combat which makes things more action oriented, but this is more just a shift in game play style.

The amount of time gating and grinding makes me not want to play that game ever again. It's such a dry grind and the combat is quite boring. The game being cross platform (mobile/PC) doesn't help it much either in my eyes in regards to being any sort of competition to other MMOs since they can't put out huge updates that are definitely required to bring more players to the game. I wish the best for Artix Entertainment and their games but if they don't start making giant changes to most of their games i can't see them succeed in the long run.

Still playing ESO to this date. MMO's have a huge problem though: Keeping the interests of players. Look at other game genres and how much players they are getting every day/week/month... and MMOs struggle to keep up with these numbers. We're currently living in a time where MMOs obviously are at a backseat. That's why the next MMO that can get everyone in will top them all. Just creating one is very hard.
@Cthulhu0135 жыл бұрын
The expansion model is a both a curse and a blessing. It means that a often small hardcore fanbase will keep paying you to add more to the game, but it also means for most of your player base, it will be revolving, because most will reach content fatigue. In that either they never want to play to endgame because of the vast quantity of content they have to go through or they simply lose interest after putting many hours in. Especially if the gameplay is repetitive and too themeparky, most will give up.

There are two games that I would consider works of genius: EQ1 and City of Heroes. EQ1 is complicated; it's either a work of pure genius, an accidental success where somehow all the bugs make the game extremely challenging and interesting, or a combination of the two. Some of the zones are so challenging, if you didn't know EXACTLY what you were doing, you would be a corpse in short order. When you figured out the zone, it felt like a real accomplishment. City of Heroes. I mention this because it's available to play now, and it's easy to install. It's not like any other game. Cryptic/Paragon did an amazing job with this game. Why is it so good? The powersets are like nothing else in any other game. You're not just a dwarf swinging an axe, you're a superhero with a variety of abilities. The team combat is the best in the genre.

Problem with MMO's today are either being a subscription base / P2P game that aren't even worth its content, and the other problem is region blocking. Its not bad having to pay for a game since it really supports the game and the devs, especially those big companies but sometimes what you are paying for is not really worth its price for a game that might not hold your attention for even an hour. I played ESO since launch, but actually quit after Elsweyr, because of the issues continuing to pile up. I've played it maybe close to 4,000 hours, and while I do recommend it for any MMO fans, it is with several caveats: The devs do not care about their endgame community enough, and cater almost exclusively to casual players, meaning that if you're looking for meaningful endgame you are unlikely to get satisfied, as you can easily beat all of the current content, and then be stuck repeating that content for a year until 1 (maybe 2 if you get really lucky) new endgame trial is added. PvP similarly doesn't have any meaningful endgame, and its flawed by design as the devs are in love with the 3-sided design, which, for small-scale PvP like battlegrounds, creates more balance issues than enjoyable gameplay. The PvP has the potential to be amazing, but the 3-sided aspect ruins a lot of great moments, and creates something that is impossible to balance. If you enjoy questing and taking your time with the games stories, there's plenty for you there, but there's sadly only a handful of questlines and stories that I personally think are worth doing, with the rest just being fillers that more or less repeat the same concepts, despite the original pitch for ESO was that their quests were going to be "different" and offer "meaningful" stories instead of fetch-quests, etc., but this promise has rarely been delivered on, further, most of the choices you make within main quests are usually self-contained to the questline or result in miniscule differences to the appearance of your character's world. Gameplay-wise, the game has also been toned down a lot and is now a watered-down version of what it once was. It was truly a fast-paced action experience when it launched, and remained so for a couple of years, but then they kept nerfing the strongest setups, and eventually resulted in a combat style that is stationary and uninvolved for the most parts. PvP is really the only place where you can find exciting combat, and that is fraught with lag, balance issues, cheaters, and several other things that often make it a very frustrating experience. ESO also lacks something which I personally think is important for an MMO, and that's making solo play worthwhile, such as providing solo players an enjoyable experience with group PvP and PvE through queueing systems and such. ESO doesn't do that, and if you want to dip your toes into the endgame experience, you are essentially required to join guilds that focus on that, since it's very rare that solo players are picked up by groups who don't know them. I've gotten to know so many awesome people through the game, thanks to what was once an awesome community, but as the game has matured, it has developed the kind of elitist toxicity that many MMOs are known for, which is very unfortunate, but I will always be thankful for how many friends I've made through the game. Many of the friends I've made don't play the game any longer, which to me says quite a lot about an MMO, especially when most of these people were loyal players, who were dedicated to the game, but became frustrated with the lack of respect shown to them by the devs who never seemed to listen until it was too late. TLDR: If you haven't played it, you should give it a try, BUT you will likely become frustrated if you ever try to play the game seriously, as the devs have shown they do not give a shit about their dedicated endgame players.

Watching these videos and reading the comments can bring one into the realisation that its not a problem of the genre of mmorpg but the players that dive into them. The 80s-90s generation grew old and have less time and focus, matured and moved on from the love of "endless" gaming, having the 2000s+ generations bringing a less mature and far less understanding community into the games, lack of team work, respect, appreciation. They do not see what it means to work for something, what it means to have randomness in the game, to help your team player, be in need of friends to achieve together goals. Lately, the players are rude, are disrespectful, needy, greedy and highly demanding having no respect of anything. Its not a problem of the genre, its a problem of personalities as a general observation.

I see many beautiful games that I would be interested in playing but they have a PVP focus which is not my thing. Would be great if they would have a server to cater to others like myself that prefer playing through the story, crafting, and gathering as opposed to open world PVP. I enjoyed playing games like Archeage up to the point I grew tired of getting ganked and all my hard work fishing, which I enjoyed very much, was lost. At least Archeage did have zones with no PVP whereas games like Red Dead Online, which is a beautiful game, have PVP across the entire map and I quit playing after being unable to enjoy the game due to constantly being one shot by gankers.

And still Nothing to play! Sure we, players, have become quite picky over the last decade, but hell, its really Nothing to play! It's depressing.. How comes no one can manage to create decent AAA mmo anymore.. ESO wasnt just competitive enough, lack of content in my eyes.. Bored after half a year. BDO, idk, lack of pvp ( or drive to do pvp) tho game was somewhat nice in general, till old one got shut down ArcheAge, just got "old" after playing it for 4 years, content just became meaningless, "top" WB drops wasnt worth a shia... And ofc problem of P2W (i was heavy spender myself). And last, removal of factions was a bummer breaking game for many. Feels i'll have to keep waiting for 2021/2022 for something new.. Duh
@clocktower58944 жыл бұрын
Well BDO has a few reasons to fight in PvP. Also - playing as a red killing machine is fun. The best thing about BDO is that you can progress in so many ways in this game to push your character, family, and guild further. Progression and road that you take to become strong is without doubt the best part of Black Desert Online. What's the worst about BDO is that Progression is the only thing you can do in the game as there's no endgame content. Progressing is fun, but you will do the same shit over and over again at level 13, and at level 62. What BDO needs is come kind of endgame content.

Thing thing about MMOs is that the players don't really move so it's damn near impossible to launch a new one. The players have invested thousands of hours into their game, they're not gonna abandon everything and jump into a new one, it's one of the main reasons why old Runescape is more popular, most of them are just the old players. The only solution is to bring in new players into the genre or get old players who quit the genre, but it doesn't seem like that is going to be easy, people who are not interested already decided they're not interested. What this ultimately means is that it's gonna be the same games on top until the end of time, playing old outdated games. It's gonna take a revolution in technology, perhaps a truly amazing VR game that is affordable and accessible.

Anarchy Online while not most played deserves a shout out as being historical and still amazing in it's core strengths. It's dated, no question. However, it's biggest flaw was it was too complicated for the MMO market of it's time. It is still probably the most complex MMO on the market and the market at it's inception wasn't mature enough to appreciate it in large numbers. The fact it has survived this long is amazing, but more importantly, it is a thoroughly involved MMO for a more sophisticated player who won't be put off by the older engine. Character classes are truly unique to the point that playing one class is such a different experience from any of the other classes, it's like playing a totally different game, and... the more involved boss fights require a well balanced team. AO was the original MMO which 'required' a diverse team of tank, dd, healer and at times other specialists... Their original mission statement was that it would be impossible to not team. They backed off some on that but they still pioneered and have to this day (imo) been unbeaten in team play dynamics. Just a for instance... a tank in AO that tried leveling damage to a high level would fail at being a tank (by not focusing their experience on being a tank) and many unschooled AO players failed to grasp this so were never able to build a high level tank that would fit into high level teams. Tanks whole purpose was to absorb damage and focus healing on him so dd's could dodge and deal the actual damage without overtaxing the healer or getting one shotted by extreme bosses... A tank who couldn't hold agro would kill his team fast. Just as important, a dd who didn't realized the team tank's limitations would get one shotted when they pulled out that massive damage on max and drew agro. That just scratches the surface of this old but still unbeaten game. ;)

It hasn't been released yet, but it's called "Project BBQ" If I remember correctly. It's 3D Dungeon Fighter Online, basically.

The games to be playing are final fantasy 14,world of warcraft,destiny 2,warframe, and tree of saviour. Ragnarok online is alive for war of emperium ONLY so if you want u can make a character,gear up, join a guild and expect a ton of action during war of emperium ONLY. GW2 is super active but nobody talks and there is no "dungeon finder"(queing for dungeons and auto match with random teamates) so its hard to do dungeons there.

I haven't really played a lot of MMORPG but in my opinion, FF14 is really the best playstyle for me, I can play every class in a single character without having to create a new character for trying new class. In the japan server(which I currently playing), I might face "server full" quite a lot times since the release of shadow bringer. So yeah, you can know that the servers are full of players. The community is so friendly as well! Check out some videos in youtube, I believe you will fall in love with FF as well :)
