The Jade emperor of the heaven court has a little sister who fell in love with a mortal. Their blasphemous union gave birth to Erlang. She received banishment as a result, the Heaven adopted Erlang however because he is the nephew of the Jade emperor after all. Because of the treatment of his mother, he is never exactly in agreement with the Court, but do their things out of duty. He is more chill and down to earth than most other Court' members. This story was retold by Wuking himself before their first encounter in the novel where they were enemies. Erlang was very upset when Lao Tzu intervened in their duel by throwing a diamond ring artifact at Wukung and severely incapacitated him, thus getting Wukong captured. They however became bros and partied together at some point after Erlang helped out killing the 9 headed serpent.

Dont ask me why that specific number, they like multiples of 8 and 9 for some reason. They even matched in both martial arts and magic.

In the novel Erlang actually never had considered Wukong as his enemy. He fought Wukong because he had to. He worked for the Heaven after all. He even admired Wukong for his reckless act going against the Heaven. You can see Erlang was acting tough when Wukong showed up at the Heaven but as soon as they fell into the mountain he changed his tone. So in conclusion this is not the true ending. The true ending probably going against the Heaven. We might encounter Wukong’s master again because either he or boddhi or buddha triggered the ring on his head causing him to lose the fight.

In the novel, the Daoist party actually didn't execute the command to arrest Wukong as possible as they could. Although Erlang's army defeated Wukong's army in the repression and did 80% of the work, they were granted an unfair and little reward. So, you can even consider Erlang's army as an outsourcing team and mercenary. They pay the most but gain the least. In the game, we know Wukong had started a rebellion against the Court, but you know what? Another rebellion before Wukong was caused by Erlang XD. Cheng'en Wu, the author of Journey to the West, used this scene to satirize some officials who did nothing with high salaries, which criticizes the bureaucracy at that time.

this isn't totally true (depends on emphasis), the other gods also help Wukong and Wukong also isn't the perfect hero, either. He spends his early monkhood peeing on monks and causing immense chaos. a good half of the gods help Wukong on the journey and Kuan Yin helps Wukong several times, and they're opposed to the demons which terrorize mankind. Not everyone in the JttW heaven is a hero, but the gods are still noble characters in the story. Almost none of the good things in the story would have happened if Guan Yin/Kuan-Yin/Kannon didn't directly intervene at crucial moments

fight is cool as hell, but I am encountering a pretty annoying problem. two of the kings keeps staying alive no matter how much I beat them. no finishing animation. their health bar is 0. is this bugged or am I missing something? I really don't want to fight the first phase again :( edit: test animal here hello hello! I died on purpose and it continues from the 4 kings fight. got them this time. gotta go easy on them I guess to see all the animation :x
