Hey everyone - hit like and subscribe to see what we produce next!
I'm an Anglican Priest in the Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island and I get to serve in the Parish of St Margaret of Scotland, in the beautiful city of Halifax, NS, that sits on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq people.
My pronouns are he/him/his. My theology is primarily Christo-centric - Jesus is at the centre and it is against Him that all values are bounced off. I believe all people are created in the image of God and are children of God and are heirs to the throne of God - no conditions - therefore every single person we meet deserves our love, and respect.

Thank you Rev. Ed. I'm not perfect. I try. Lord I try. Sometimes I have the quick anger issues like Peter. I try to think of the woman at the well. Jesus approached her with love and dignity. I want to always be that way. Bless you Rev.

If you're at the bottom of the ladder, they won't hear you no matter how you say it. History shows that and if you listen to poor folk, really listen, that's what you'll hear. When you've been worn down to nothing, sometimes all you have left is anger.

lol my dads wife tried saying things about pronouns to me. I said “Janie… you refusing to use their pronouns is like me calling you Jan because I think Janie sounds childish. You don’t have to agree with something to be respectful.” On the plus side, while I doubt I changed her mind, she knows I’m not safe to be bigoted around. So there’s that.

And that's a big thing. If other people let her know they won't listen to that from her.......who knows.... Many years ago a had a neighbor who was very racist. N word and all that. I told her I wouldn't tolerate that language around me. She never said any of it again, so obviously she had control over her language, but needed to be told to control herself. I hope you find the strength and forbearance to continue. And if that strength fails at some point, walking out is acceptable. Best to you. 🙏👋💐

I was thinking along the same lines. I wonder how that guy would react if people addressed him as ma'am and referred to him as "she/her" or even "they", because they can't be bothered with the way he wants to be addressed. It takes so little to be polite and if a person can't be bothered with that little, then they have shown everyone who they are.

I changed my first and last name over 20 years ago. My old name represented a lifetime of abuse and I chose to change that energy. There are members of my family who refuse to accept me by my new name. They are personally offended and affronted that I would dare change the family name. It's lovely not having them or their continued abuse in my life.

When they tell you who they are, believe them. That's what's said often, but sometimes you have to read between the lines. For instance, if someone says that they're a people person, do you believe them? Or do you watch what they do, and see something behind a facade that doesn't indicate a "people person." This legislator has told us exactly who he is. It's unfortunate that there are so many like him in these latter days.

People are trying to cope with so many changes they are confronted with. I saw this written in another public forum, and it got me thinking: "While I still have a right to be an Out Bisexual in America, I wish to complain about "LGBTQ+" being used by liberal writers as an overreaction to appear "all inclusive." LGBT is succinct and sufficient to include all the non-str8 sexualities. With all these added letters it has become the alfabet soup of acronyms already & going to LGBTQIA, where the added letters are not even clearly defined (Q = Queer or Questioning) The "Q" itself is a redundancy and the "+" a redundant redundancy. The AP Stylebook says all of them from LGBT to LGBTQIA are legitimate usage (cop out deferral to all militant gay factions, including us traditionalists)." It kind of reminded me of the impressions I got about when communists would get together for long, detailed discussions on party doctrine. I think it's a generational thing. One spends 50+ years on the planet getting through life -- and here come all these new "rules."
@contrafax

Some are now adding 2S in front of the LGBTQ+. Seems it would be easier to just say LGBT+. And of course, there's dissention in the community, about the T should be omitted, because even after all the prejudice they've received some are anti-Trans.😢 It blows my mind 🤯. You would think those that have been trampled on just for being born the way they are wouldn't want to pass the hate on! Guess I'm too much of an idealist to want people to be nice. Or do nothing; if it takes too much effort to be nice, it also takes effort to be nasty. Don't do anything. But, sadly we live in the age of Social Media Karens and Kens who have to have their moments of notoriety being nasty. 😢

Further, if you're lacking in power and do speak up for yourself civily, you'll either be ignored or characterized in all kinds of defamatory ways. Those of us on the bottom of the ladder economically have to fight and fight hard. We don't have those resources to rely on, to go to. We're alone in this fight snd sometimes that breaks us down and we have nothing left but anger. Im in that place right now and refuse to feel guilty. I never quite understood this whole "prefered pronouns" outrage. How many times do you need to use those? Seriously. They're all third person pronouns. You never use them when speaking directly to the person. And, when you're talking "about" them, use their prefered pronouns if they're around. If they're not, you do you, and you deal with the consequences. It's a bit like calling Biden "Mr President", or Johnson "Mr Speaker", or your mother "Mom". It's called basic curtesy. It costs nothing, and makes you a better human being. It's easy as learning someone's name.

If someone doesn't use the correct pronouns simply don't listen to them when they speak. Gonna make conservatives lives quite a bit harder. And I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint but I don't think I can be civil towards conservatives. They've done too much harm.

It’s not necessary to participate in a lie to be civil.

Though, a modicum of respect is necessary for being civil. Referring to someone in terms they prefer is just plain respectful (and decent). We don't get to decide who others are, so we don't get to decide which elements of them are truth, or "lies." It's super easy to be respectful, and civil.

@@cheriann6461 truth is truth. There’s no your truth and my truth. It is what it is. God told us truth. We weren’t told to pick and choose what we want. That leads to sin.

@@fivecrosses9040 ...and you get to decide who others truly are? Do you also get to decide what God's truth is, or how sin is defined? Do I get to decide who you are, what God expects of you, what your sins are, and what you are called...all based on my interpretation of any given text? If you grant me that authority over you, then I will concede that you have that authority over others, based on how you interpret any given text.

in the english language we import words that are useful from other languages. this whole they / them thing is a bit annoying because it is confusing and a clumsy use of language. it would be much better if we imported a word from another language that does not have sexual specificity in pronouns and just start using it. i nominate the pronoun oo from persian. unlike the european languages, persian does not have to enforce arbitrary sex assignments to objects like french, german, italian, spanish, etc. and does not have sex specific pronoun which is pronounced like the word, umlaut without the mlaut! this way no one would have the excuse of grammar and confusing language or God forbid changing the ancient language of english. yes that was a smartass joke about the ancient language, the never changing english!
