Mo’ Money, No Games… That’s The State of Play…Station

This show was a 6/10 for me. Thought that it was fine, but i had low expectations since it was only 30 minutes and they revealed the date the day before. Concord is a really mixed bag for me. I thought that the gameplay actually looked good, the animations and the effects were really impressive. But the game seems to really want to go into the overwatch/apex thing where they make story content for the game. The thing is, Apex and Overwatch actually have a good theme and overall style that they are going for. Concord is all over the place, you have big nasty gross aliens and big lovable robots which are the best parts of the design. Then you have the 6+ humans with guns.. The reason as to why Overwatch is so successful (or was) is that every hero is an architype in the game, Widow is the sniper, Genji is the ninja, Torb places turrets ETC. But in this game it looks like every single character just has a simular gameplay design, use guns and then fight with some abilities. Thats just not a interesting and successful way to build a hero shooter. Ironically they had Marvel Rivals in the same showcase and those devs understand how to make a good and successful hero shooter because every hero is unique. TLDR - Concord is shooter first, heroes second, and thats the BIG issue. Ballad of Antara looked really awesome and was a standout for me. Slient Hill 2 still looked awful. I dont understand why they are marketing the game this way. All these trailers are like resident evil trailers and they just dont work. I agree with you that the game looks pretty good when its just him walking around and looking at the scenery which is mostly what Slient Hill is about. But when it goes into cutscenes and action gameplay it looks pretty underwhelming. Astro bot looked really damn fun and creative. Its not what i expected at all coming from this character and the previous game, but honestly im pretty interested in what the game turns out to be. I got alot of vibes simular to Mario Galaxy with the platforming and the different powerups. Bosses reminded me alot of Cuphead with the over animation and the height difference in the arena. I think the deal maker for this game for me is the price, i dont think i would get a game like this for full price but if its around 50 to 40 i absolutely would.

The more I think about Concord the more confused I get about why those cinematics are even there lol. Like is that something that hero shooter fans are loooking for in their game? Or are they just going to skip through em as quick as possible to get back to the game? I could understand if the cinematics were used as part of a small single player story that they wedge into the game, ans just keep the meat and potatoes based around the hero shooter gameplay… I just don’t really understand why you would put that much money into cutscenes that look that good, for a hero shooter lol. But once again, I’m 1000% ignorant to these genres, or what players look for in these style of games. & I’m in complete agreement with you on the Astro price, making it $70 would be a death sentence for that game…and don’t get me wrong, it looks like it’s worth $70, but a lot of games are worth full price, and still bomb despite how good they are

@@UnnecessaryRambling yeah $70 would keep me from buying an Astro game, even one that looks this good. I'm hoping more around the $40 price point, but that's probably not happening... perhaps $50.

Had the chance to watch your state of play station predictions and then also this one backed back as it was making a painting for my Dad for Father's Day and I think your predictions were far superior than what they showed. I think the only things I can even be remotely excited for is silent Hill 2 and that's with a big * beside it and astrobot. I mean until Dawn. Yes remake whatever but that just came out not all that long ago and there's nothing wrong with it in its current state. So why are we getting a remake for this all right because it's being ported to the PC......ugh. I'm getting tired of all the souls like as well but I would say that about if they were feeding me just horror games or just metroidvania games. Sure, as I started out playing games I gravitated towards one specific genre. But I'm noticing now that I like a lot of variety and most of these are a pass for me. Sorry if this sounds crazy. I'm doing it voice to text well. I have a paintbrush in my hand. Haven't made it to what you guys are playing right now but I wanted to comment before I start to forget what I wanted to say LOL😂

The only three things I can't unsee with silent hill 2 remake, is the opening door animations, the flash light has a hard centre beam which looks cheap and the attacking animations feel overly loose. Other than those issues I am going to play it to see how they expand the story and what they change and add.

It’s going to be interesting what kind of reception this ends up getting what with the RE remakes being the bar you should be aiming for. I wonder if people will give it a free pass or if this crumbles the hype of new Silent Hill games 😬 Will this be a day one purchase for you or is it a wait for sale?

I’ve got a wish list of Ps5 games to pick up eventually. After this state of play 5 of the 14 games shown got added to it, so I don’t think it was terrible… But yeah it wasn’t great either. Watched it live and was like “oh it’s over already”, when it was finished.

Yeah, and I think coming off of that disappointing showcase last year, it just adds extra pressure to this State of Play, so they were kinda in a lose lose situation… but hey, they’re making stupid money… so I guess the lack of first party titles really don’t matter at all unfortunately. But as a fan, I do find it so weird, that they still have so little to show

@@UnnecessaryRambling Could be more stuff we don’t know about. Astrobots got a quick turn around from announcement to release. If there’s still not much after Summer Games Fest, then yeah that’s kind of bad. But I imagine they’ll have something contractually tied up to be showcased there.

I’m excited about a new Astro Bot. PoE2 looked awesome and it would be great if it is free to play. I might actually give it a try then 🤣. Until Dawn was such a great game, but without any additional content, I won’t be picking that up for PC or PS5. Monster Hunter Wilds stole the show. Infinity Nikki…. I didn’t quite understand why it was shown at SoP. I don’t see it being an adult or teen title whatsoever, but hey, to each their own. As always, great breakdown and analysis guys.

It would be crazy if they went a different route and charged money to play PoE2 so I think it’s a safe bet it’ll be F2P. Did you play any other Monster Hunter games or would this be your first?

Weird thing I just realized about Infinity Nikki, is that it’s being published by the same company who’s publishing the Ballad of Antara game… so I wonder if PlayStation is eyeing up some partnership with them. But yeah dude, Monster Hunter looks so sick. I’ll definitely be diving into that next year

@@trey631 It’s very slow to get into just as a warning. The pacing is slower than you’d probably expect but once you’ve got a few hunts under your belt the ball gets rolling a bit quicker 😁

Until Dawn is really solid, I think you’ll dig it, if you’re into that style of game. But yeah, definitely not a good show imo
