Why Do You Finish Games?

Interesting topic but I feel like the more Interesting question is why you don't finish games. In these modern times with so much stimulation for your brain and different things trying to grab your attention it feels like you really have to be really invested in a game to actually finish it. Aiming for trophies/achievements help me personally.

Very true. I hate to admit it, but I’ve been falling into the easily distracted camp wayyyyy too much lately. I’ve been booting up games & bouncing out in 30-40 mins if it doesn’t immediately catch my attention.

For me I aim to story clear almost everything and that means I have a tendency to bounce around a lot. It’s something I try to keep under control but it does slip away from me at times. Achievement hunting for sure helps keep me narrowed into an objective for sure though. What are some of your personal favourite completions?

Great Q. Probably the biggest frustration I have with myself as a gamer is that I can't continue playing anything that I don't consider a great experience (8/10+). Anything mediocre or decent I will stop playing fairly quickly, as I have little interest in that level of experience. I think it’s a time concern to be honest. I'll happily watch a 2-3 hour film that is not great, knowing it will soon end, but video games and books, when I know there's like 5-15 hours to go, absolutely not haha. So what ends up happening is I either love a game (basically any I finish) or I have no feelings about it whatsoever (basically any I don't finish). Funny how our brains work.

I think that’s a healthy mindset dude. If you’re not enjoying a game after a couple hours, then playing it for another 20 is gonna be a chore. Too many great games out there to be playing stuff you’re not digging. Don’t think there’s anything wrong with that homie

That's the big factor. I have limited time to play games, so I can't afford to get through a mediocre game if I have any intentions of trying out all the games on my backlog, or new releases. The first 1-3 hours of a game are key for me. I'm all-in or I'm all-out, haha.

Also Brandon, you need to try out some books given your love of stories my friend. I think there might be a few that would give you a new perspective. Something like ‘City of Thieves’ by David Benioff. When you find the sort of book that gets you really immersed, its such a complementary experience to the stories that video games offer.

Love this topic and I'm going to comment as I watch so I don't forget things. Totally feel you on deadly premonitions. I just finished that one. Not all that long ago as well. As janky as the game was the thing that killed me was no fast travel and having to drive that car felt like 50% of my game! But it was so cheesy and crazy that I really enjoyed it at the same time 😂 If that makes any sense. So I typically will play a game even if I don't enjoy it. But unlike loon I could not play Jericho. I got an hour into it and thought this game is so terrible. Why would I do this to myself?! 😂😂😂

The driving in Deadly Premonition does take its toll. I need to get back and finish it though as rough as some of the games aspects were it’s such a one of a kind experience. We rarely see this level of cheese and bad delivery etc actually pan out and make the experience all the more interesting and compelling. As for Jericho I go through these phases of hearing a game is bad and have this morbid curiosity to see just how bad. I try to go all the way to the end as when you wrap that experience up it makes you appreciate 5/10s and the likes so much more. 😂 Too Human and Agony are probably on my list to check out at some point. If you have any bad games feel free to share I’m always on the look out 😂

I’ve been a real diva lately. I’ve been LOVING certain games & I’ll run into one annoying mandatory mission & just totally nope out lol. Dude Dealy Premonition is so strange… the driving gets SO old. Especially if you accidentally take a wrong turn, and the layout isn’t really designed for you to just cut through a field & be back on track, you literally gotta turn the car around and go ALL the way back around on the highway lmao

This may sound toxic, but the main reason why i finish games i don’t like is to in the conversation. I see a lot of ppl said you can’t make an opinion on a game you haven’t finished or you’re a fraud.

I don’t think that’s necessarily toxic. I feel like the reason I finished Hellblade 2, Harold Halibut & Suicide Squad was just so I could give my full opinion of the entire game, when I discussed them on the channel… so I’m in the same boat
