Former NFL player and All Star Mo Williams is the new Jackson State Men's Basketball Coach. He's coming from Alabama State where he wasn't that successful. His last coaching stop, the surrounding coaches, and being a hometown kid places a lot of pressure on Williams.
Pro Days are an essential part of the draft process and getting HBCU pro days exposure is important. The JSU, Alcorn, MVSU joint pro day was publicized on NFL Network and hopefully it's the beginning of more coverage.
Talladega College is in the NAIA Finals for the first time in school history. They made it to the big game by playing crippling defense. They've worked through the tournament to face Loyola again. Talladega is looking for their first win vs Loyola this year.

As a JSU Alumnus and Tigers fan...I'm looking for and expecting JSU MBB to be in the Top 3 or 4 solid in the SWAC next season. Playing competitive ball and definitely making it past the first round in the tourney!! Leggo MO!! #GoTigers #rysjackson

Talladega needs a football team. At least a division 3. That will gross more money into the program.

Mo will have more success in recruiting alone off the fact that kids will want to pick his brain on what all it takes to make it to the league.

As of right now as a JSU fan, I’m not that confident in the Mo Williams hire. I understand he’s a former NBA Champion that is a Jackson native but does he have that aggressive, level playing field mentality. Right now I don’t see it. All of his offers have went to undersized players that wouldn’t even get P5 consideration. Coach Reed and Coach Prime are going for P5 caliber players.

Aye he probably can’t get theses dudes into nba but d league or 10 day contract even just getting our players overseas is good enough

Who does match up with Coach Sanders. Can the man hold a practice before you start putting that type of pressure on him and start comparing him to all the Coaches on campus. You trying to say what you are looking for. Let the man build his program up first. We all know you have been successful in all college sports as far as fantasy sports go. You are a good reporter of sports but let The Coaches get their opportunity in first and start by pumping them up.

JSU will be disappointed with this hire. His coaching is suspect and he had several techs and key moments that hurt the team.

I wasn't really sold on the Mo hire after his Bama State years. Honestly I hope being the basketball coach there is like being the football coach at Valley. I'm from JSU, but I'm not from Jackson, so his Jackson ties mean nothing to me. If this was more of a Penny situation, I could see it. There is only one Prime, but I was hoping for a move that was closer to that than Mo Williams. My name recognition in HBCU sports he's definitely #3. Everyone knows Prime. As a college sports coach his name is behind Coach Reed. Casual fans only recognize him from being a former NBA player. After two NCAA games, people know Reed's name in the world of coaching more. From within JSU, he might not even be #3, so our expectations are super high. Almost every sport on campus has been competitive in the SWAC or HBCUs in general sometime during the last 3 years. We have no room for what is usually the second most popular sport at a school dragging behind everything else. Our expectations is to be on part with the other sports that are dominating the conference or competing with or scaring these bigger schools
