Another way to prevent the laces from coming loose is to make the loops long and then slipping them under the laces at the beginning of the cross lacing up front.

THANK YOU for mentioning the shoelace issue, I’ve been dealing with that for many years, hard to believe they didn’t switch from the round laces to flat laces which would probably stay tied much longer.
