Growing up I had 2 uncles who hauled hot oil out of the Ardmore Oklahoma refinery. They were definitely men’s men. Hunch back bow legged burn scared. Those days truckers were like the lifeguards of the hiway. Over their years both of them had pulled people from wrecks. One uncle Roscoe pulled a woman from a burning car and was written up as a hero in the paper. They wore uniforms and looked sharp. That was in the 60’s. Now a trucker wears pajamas and house shoes and if they come up on a wreck they record it for Facebook. You are definitely old school. Didn’t know y’all were still around. Enjoy your channel. Keep on rolling.

Bellevue, once used to be a bedroom community of Seattle, now has a shopping mall that got hammered last night. The governor sent National Guard out with no weapons other than batons. Never bring a piece of paper to a knife fight and never a knife to a gun fight. Listening to you and watching the road, brings back just exactly what is meant by SHOTGUN. Be safe.

I was wondering what Mike was talking about the 2 sets of 3 groves in each lane that he said had steel put in them so I looked it up... In answer to your question, here is a quick summary of the work that has been going on I-90 and other concrete roads around the state. I- 90 is a concrete roadway that has exceeded the original design life of the pavement (30 years). However, predominately the concrete is still in good condition, except for the roughness of the ride. The roughness is caused by "faulting" in the pavement. Faulting is where each panel of concrete tilts and leaves a bump when you drive on to the next panel. This faulting generates the characteristic thump-thump-thump you probably have experienced when driving on some concrete roadways. Each of these bumps can be as much as 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch, and every 10 ft. along the roadway. For trucks, the faulting will rattle your teeth. To correct the ride, we can grind the pavement smooth again, but once the faulting has started, it will continue. Therefore to stop the faulting, we put dowel bars longitudinally across the joint where the faulting has occurred. We put 3 bars in every wheel path, buried half way through the concrete slabs. Once these have been placed the bar is grouted back into the pavement. The grout is a slightly different color than the original pavement, and as you drive across the pavement, would appear to be a groove in the pavement in the same direction as traffic. The color is different, because we use a special epoxy grout that develops strength within 24 hours, instead of the usual 2 weeks. The dowel bars stop any continuation of faulting, and then we grind the pavement smooth. This is only a temporary fix, but from other tests done, we expect a minimum of 10 years of added service to the roadway. The faulting is always worst in the right lane, since this is where 75% of the traffic travels. Thus the dowel bars are usually only needed in the right hand lane.

Really enjoy your videos, especially when you run through California, my old stomping grounds. I see many familiar sights and I'm usually on your side re: your philosophy and commentary.. My son drove for Werner for a few years, until his dispatcher kept him 100% of the time in the midwest - he had a family in Califiornia and could not get ,home to see them and fnally told them to go to hell. Safe roads, good weather, light winds, too. Chao.

Just had to comment. Late seventies-early eighties, spent 5 years at Hill AFB. Got married in '81 to an Ogden girl. Her mother was born in Lewiston (16 miles north of Logan) and is now buried there. Been over that hill countless times. The town of Mantua is one of those places that is not pronounced the way it's spelled: the "T" is silent. I learned REAL quick that the town is pronounced "MAN-uh-way". One of the few times that the M.I.L. nagged me! And the lake on the hill is the Mantua Reservoir.

Hi Mike: an interesting ride. Good roads traffic not too bad. I think you are spot on on some of the comments you made of the current riot situations happening now. No further comment needed. I’m happy that things are slowly opening up. Have reservations at the Golden Nugget in July, hope all is well by then. We’ll drive not fly. I don’t think it’s a good idea to be in a narrow tube with 160 other people until they get a vaccine for the virus. Will wear a mask at the poker table just to be safe. maybe the werner driver entering the yard as you were leaving was not waiting for you rather login himself on to "yard moves" and entering an annotation ? yard moves puts you on line 4 stopping your 11 hr drive clock. i use the yard move feature on the eld as much as i legally can. but remember to manually enter yourself onto driving so all yard moves go against your 14 only. when you first arrived at your yard and got to the stop sign i would of went on to yard moves and entered "drop/hook" then entered "driving" the second i hit a public road. stay safe driver

Talking about political issues does the opposite. It would be so wonderful if your channel could be an oasis of peace...freedom to just enjoy what we have in common like love of nature and the hum of the road. I have gained real respect for you who cross the country in these rigs...its changed how I drive when your rigs are present and helped me in how to drive icy roads. What in the world does jack mean though, please explain sometime. Regrettably though this video I must turn off...the political stuff has me wide awake and my brain is buzzing.

Okie Doke, I'll keep on riding. Reflecting upon Miss Walker's response, I hope Truckers are having it easier nowadays since the Election is over with. The Trucker's Safety is more important than the Goods they are transporting. Many of my Peers have retired,, and are retiring from Law Enforcement for which I am happy about because many People just don't think clearly anymore, and stupid antics can get People hurt, or worse. When you first mentioned about the California Plates my first thought was those were the Members of whatever Group was assembled to create Trouble in Salt Lake City.
