"Looser" designs are far more animation-friendly than more detailed ones. Much more room for expression and crazy movement that doesn't look off-putting or off model. Plus it's just plain easier to draw characters with fewer intracacies.

That said, it's a fine line. That kind of art style can quickly become unappealing, so they have to throw in those hyper realistic slapstick scenes to keep the audience's attention.

@@GashPlague I guess that's the point. A more basic design sometimes isn't as fun to look at, but that is made up by the fact that it is FAR more animation friendly and the action scenes and expression is much easier to do, thus having better quality and smoother animation.

I was put off from watching Mob Psycho for a while because I wasn’t a fan of the art style, and art style is a determining factor for some (not all) people when it comes to picking shows to watch. After watching MP100, I’m now a big fan, and I regret not watching it earlier.

I think the best way to describe Mob's studio treatment is that One is an amazing character writer, he has amazing ideas and his stuff is hilarious. His art...is not amazing. He has some cool designs, but he's not crazily proficient at drawing. In One Punch Man someone literally redrew the comic into a great looking manga. In MP100, they chose to keep his original art but to add god tier experimental animation. It's an excuse to go ape s#$@ while keeping One's unique style. This series goes HAM, and it's glorious to watch.

Aaaaa you guys finally started Mob Psycho 100! This is one of my fav show. It’s very entertaining and fun to watch. People often underestimate the art but it certainly has one hella great ‘pure’ animation imo. The characters are easy to learn and be recognized. I bet you’ll love them more as the story progresses

It's a series for me that keeps me surprised everytime. I started watching because of the comedy side, but as it is progresses it gained depth that it could be dark sometimes story wise. It grows on me overtime and I love it. I am not even including the greatness of animation, watching it in episodes was a cheat especially in s2.

The creator of mob psycho is the same for one punch man. Both utilize the underestimated, plain protagonist. Both use satire and play with common manga tropes so well it's hilarious. One punch man is drawn by a different more veteran manga artist though (same guy who did eyeshield 21) because ONE (mob psycho creator) was a webtoon guy and his skills weren't quite good enough to execute his vision in one punch man. I think. If i'm remembering correctly.

looser drawings make it easier to animate as you can see in naruto when there's a fight and they tone down the details. but mob psycho is a mix of both, some of the fights can be extremely loose while some are pretty rigid. what makes mob psycho different from naruto is it's coloration. even though it has a looser artstyle, the color fills it in while in naruto the saturation of everything makes it an eyesore imo. also for the manga vs anime. ONE definitely didn't draw it with these weird textures everywhere. the psychic energies when drawn were pretty consistent unless it's something really special. the animation studio definitely went hard on this one as the source material was already good and they made it great. definitely stick this anime out, season 3 is coming out too and looking at the material covered, probably the last season. this is one of the hallmarks of anime adaptation. most adaptations are incredibly lazy just copying panel to panel. here they couldn't do it even if they tried since ONE's illustrations isn't the most consistent (though it really improved in Mob Psycho 100) (plus even if ONE didn't have great illustration he has great sense of panelling and just 'awe' moments in general, the fact he can do that with his level of art is amazing and probably even harder since he has to squeeze out every skill in the toolbox to make it work). Also also, great discussion at the end! Really hard to find reactors who has great questions on the plot. Really entertaining.

It certainly doesnt look anything like what you watch in the morning as a kid. Morning pre-school cartoons were always cheap and ugly. What it does look like is 90s MTV music video, pointlessly expensive, expressive, incomprehensible, and on acid. Set to some druggie song like Peter Gabriel or crap like that.
