Morris Levy was tight with Vincent Gigante , he was head of Roullette records which ran the industry through extortionate means

The problem with CBS paying that $175,000 is it didn't cost them anything. The bands will have to pay it. Sneaky.

Right, and it is not actually illegal, what is illegal is not disclosing it

A ton of the most powerful mob guys have always been diminutive in stature...yea you might knock one to the ground, but you'd be trading your life having put your hands on a made guy. Also, I've witnessed it many times personally, size deficit can be overcome by ferocity, confidence, fear-inducing violence of action. The main thing that separates is the absolute willingness to use violence. Menace goes a long way

The mob helped rare earth avoid the embarrassment of playin' that garbage to a live audience and starting a riot

Also explains why there was .... is !!! .. so much horrible music on the airwaves... you can crosscheck a lousy song's airplay versus record sales .... thats a pretty good red flag right there..70s were aaaaall about payola !!
