I don't understand something about the installation of the roof mount: You isolated the center post, but grounded it anyway via the pigtail on the coax. Why go thru the trouble of drilling an oversized hold to prevent contact with the body, then ground it to the body anyway?
@MowerJunkie2 жыл бұрын
the antenna is not grounded, the coax shield is grounded like it is supposed to be. the center conductor from the coax goes to the antenna, and the shield goes to ground.

you need to add 6" inches to the bottom of the 102" inch whip antenna for a total length of 108" inches for proper SWR tune match to a CB radio. 102" inches is the proper length for a 10 meter HAM radio.

This might sound ridiculous, but me and a pal did A to B test 20 odd years ago , wilson 1000, 102' sirio 300 all the best ant of the day, 20 mile car to car sea path . The 102' was right up there , but the winner was not even a cb ant . Ridiculous as it sounds a 2 metre ham vhf ant wins . Yes this is not a joke the ant was a Diamond nr22l, a 5/8 over 5/8 on 144mhz it just so happens it is very close to the 1/4 wave cb . There is some capacitance making it FAB on cb and 10 metre ham . This Ant is a very very good ant on 2 metre vhf , but it is even bettre on 11/10 metre . I have been using the Diamond nr22l on and off over the last 20 years . The only thing is it is only rated at 100 watts , has a uhf mount and is expensive. But to this day you can still buy them , and yes they still outperform a regular 102' 1/4 wave whip (only just ). As a ham i worked France, Russia/ MM, spain ,England on 28.430 mhz yesterday. If you get a chance to test ,you wont be disappointed, only don't go over 100 w or the small cap might blow . Just my 2c . MM0UDI is my ham call .

Truth is, and I know I'm preaching to the choir here, CB, 10m, and 2 meter ham should be far more active than it is. HF ham is great too when it absolutely has to get there, and "there" is half a continent or world away. Two way radio comms are really a national treasure that is not being utilized like it should be. Too few hard core Elmer types in the hobby. Drag them out dust them off and fire them up boys and girls. We (myself included) don't need to be radio inactive or silent key till the fat lady sings and they slam the lid. As Larry says: Git er dun!

If you have double din, you can easily fit a din-sized CB and a single din aftermarket radio both in the same slot. There were also some older CB's made in the 70's that combined all those in a single housing, even including a tape player. I wish you could get something like that today.
