I still have issues with DJ'S putting lights on their speaker stands just below the speaker. It's just like headlights to a deer. The lights hit the audience/dance floor patrons directly in their eyes. Why do that? Stop doing that! Dance floor lighting is for indirect ambiance. Not blinding, in your face, excitement. Raise dance floor lighting above the dance floor. Some of you will hopefully figure this out some day soon. Best wishes, no offense!

Harley Olsthoorn yeah I agree. But investing in the proper lights to accomplish the look you and the client are going for is what’s key. I have the Chauvet 4play as one of mine. You can adjust the direction of each pod, I’ll typically aim 2 at the roof on each side then 2 at the sides of the dance floor, literally covering the room. If I use the other lights I have I’ll fill more more of the walls. Once the dance is on and the formalities are over every photographer takes off. The client is going to have a ton of professional photos they don’t need to worry about the lights and lasers in their face or showing in the pictures when the lighting is set correctly. Pointing up from the floor into the dance floor gives you zero options of correcting this.

@16:15 was the most cleanest practical setup. That whole setup would fit in the back of a small suv. Love the weighted stands for the speakers and then using the sub as the lighting stand.

90% of these people arnt using trussing properly, and just looks gawdy and sticks out. Bunch of extra setup for no reason. Overhead trussing should only be used for HUGE setups.

Come on Barr lol, I use trussing for weddings, what do you consider a nice set up then? So we supposed to use T bars instead of trussing because it looks gawdy? As long as you put time and heart into it not having wires everywhere, scrims tight, speakers placed correctly I dont see a problem with trusses. not saying anything bad about you, Barr ...... but opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. What one likes the other may not. Just as in music some like country and some like rock . Do not agree on trussing, if up lighted the right way ..looks great. What matters is being a pro and trying to look that way, making the dance floor a safe place, remember most of the time these people are drunk and clumsy. Some do not have deep pockets., good DJ equipment is NOT cheap. I up every one of there setups with another point just because they gave an effort.

Agreed but, it’s a “setup review” it is 100% bias based on what I like. It’s a review, that’s why people summited a photo. It’s my literally my option. I guess people don’t understand that. 😅 There is no point in doing a setup review if it’s all hugs and rainbows. I know that building setups cost money that’s why I made the statement at the start. There would be no point of doing a setup review if I liked all of them.

I dont know how much ich of them changes for them work, but they can buy some Beam's 7R, a 6m truss and provide a grate lightshow. I agree, the setup must look clean, it's about our image.

not many mobile guys are anymore, the extra lugging of 2 pluss a mixer, than sound and lighting, serato box, and laptop. it is simpler to have a good controller and laptop.

When i walk into a party and see the dj with a controller.... i'm like "really, ok". do your thing. if i see techs, it gets me more interested, at least you have an interest in the past. I could be wrong, you may just use controllers for convince. But controller kinda turns me off.

Using a pair of 1200s puts the DH at a disadvantage! The extra weight, size and lack of dexterity (effects and "tricks" of a controller) using turntables isnot worth it! Get a good controller or a decent mixer and CD players.

Bro you have so much to still learn about the dj biz. You should never try to be the star of the show you don’t steal the show from wedding clients. You did have some great points on a few of the setups but you have to remember what might work for you where your from don’t always work everywhere else. Personally I feel a dj facade puts up a wall between you and the guests and just looks like something straight out of the disco period. But what do I know I’ve only been doing this for 21 years but the difference between you and I is I will admit I don’t know everything and I still learn something from almost every event I do. #bringonthehatecomments lol 😂

I can #bringonthenonhatecomments. Chris I've been DJing for 32 years and you are correct about not being the center of attention at some shows like weddings, birthday parties, and family reunions. You do have to be the center of attention at almost every other show. My DJ 'facade' is a dark black sign with just the logo so it's a bit more low profile and the lights are all pointed up and out of people's faces when possible. I hate the speakers on 'sticks' also right in people's faces. Speakers in the 70's and 80's were on the floor and I think the sound vibrating the floor and walls it what makes the room jump. I took acoustical physics in college and as long as you can accommodate the frequency changes in the sound emanating from within the walls and floor material with a 32 band eq and a spectrum analyzer, you can always have great sound. I may not be Skrillex but I have learned quite a bit on the budget I've had.

depends on the size of the venue and room given for set up. sometimes 60's look great, others they look rediculous, and owning several sizes just ionst always practical, so get what fits for the most comon venue you play IMO
