The reason why the rifle don't have iron sight is because it suppose to be integrated with the M-3 Tactical Helmet. If you see some of the movie's early promotion poster, the helmet have a flip down HUD visor on it. Also in the live fire exercise incident, Breckenridge said his helmet malfunction and he can't aim.

Clark Kent remove the carry handle and shotgun, then add iron sights and a foregrip. Then you have a truely deadly weapon that's cheaper because you don't have to pay for the shotgun. The mark 1 is a shit design for a military rifle, but those changes would make it perfect

I always imagined in Starship Universe they would have network integrated sights akin to Halo Universe or like today's real life Future Warrior or French Felin series sights. Those are basically integrated into soldier's Helmet Heads Up Display, and just like in video games whatever place a soldier points business end of the weapon, the crosshairs on the HUD display in helmet or implant in the eye will move towards that point on wireless (or even wire connected) camera/sight attached to the weapon. Still need iron sights though in case such delicate system could be destroyed in combat, but I would imagine Starship Trooper's future universe would already have something like this.

the sniper varient is the same as the shot gun one just with a scope so i would go for the sniper one. in the fps pc game, there are multiple morita varients you can use as well as the mauruder rifle which has unlimited plasma ammo

In the game, I usually go for the Mk.1, because it got better damage power. But when it need reload and the bug still alive, I would quickly change to the Marauder version as a backup.

personally I find the carbine better in the game. getting swarmed by armoured bugs like tigers, just switch to alt fire and chew them up. the Mk4 marauda rifle is great against the soft bugs especially if you have good fire discipline and control your fire so it doesn't over heat though at a distance nothing beats the MRL just send a wave of guided rockets into a swarm and boom. and the coil gun is OP against baby tankers if you can get a shot between the eyes

Love the morita but my favourite was the "smart" morita rifle that was used in the Roughnecks animated series. It had an underbarrel launcher and could use a variety of ammo, including laser and it made sence why it had no iron sights because the weapon was linked to a reticle displayed on the users helmet. This of course because the series merged the movie and book universe so the MI had power suits like their book counter part.

Best believe when they started using pulse rifles it made it a hell of a lot easier to melt the armor and cooks the flesh of the bugs way better as seen in the second movie with a small group of soldiers actually holding up rather well with the firs power they had.

Other then the lack of Iron Sights, this seems like a bulpup weapon similar to the M14, high damage, high rate of fire, and devastating power, but the lack of iron sights and poor tactics do make sense for the apparent uselessness the MBI seemed.

@@igotmeeseeks677 The Halo M5A3 rifle suffers from the same level of un realism. It is chambered in 7.62×51 mm NATO which is basically .308 Winchester with a bulpup configuration. The guns magazine is only 36 rounds but still, the weapons would have to be enormous and impractical.

people that are complaining about iron sight. The original script had all MI helmet with a transparent visor (as seen on the tower gunner at whiskey outpost) that acted as a hud. It was removed because they got dirty quickly, would fall of easily and would reflect light. This is still hinted during the training incident scene. We could assume that the hud served as a targeting sight, IFF and friendly line of sight

I've never watched starship troopers... But i have to ask was the lack of iron sights a feature? Were these meant to only use scopes or were the troopers helmets fitted with a digital H.U.D or did the weapons have some sort of digital holograph as sights? (examples would be like spartan helemtes in halo or a few guns from the new sifi call of dutys).

The Morita is pretty much a bullpup conversion of an M14. ( I think they used Mini-14s firing 223 blanks during filming. ) So it feels very real and recognizable because well they are contemporary guns just modified to look futuristic. This gives it the happy medium of being fully recognizable to a broad audience but still looking advanced. Overall i like this weapon, but as always i think the M41A is better.

I'm not impressed by the Morita. It looks and sounds so bland and boring, it should be called the Bor-ita. No iron sights, no futuristic targeting scope, no auto-loading for the shotgun, not even a digital ammo counter? Lame! An unmodified Steyr AUG or especially a Tavor TAR-21 would be much more interesting.

The Beretta Morita Mk I actually has a Ruger AC-556 assault rifle housed within it, so it's chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO/.223 Remington (hence the curved magazine) instead of 7.62x51mm NATO/.308 Winchester like the Springfield M14 battle rifle (which requires straight magazines) but still packs a heck of a punch thanks to its lengthened barrel. Also, that underbarrel shotgun is actually a 12 Gauge pump-action Ithaca 37 Stakeout (whose loading gate doubles as an ejection port) and not an 8 Gauge semi-automatic elephant gun.

The assault rifle that beats them all is the Bolter from Warhammer 40k if you ask me. Its a .75 cal full or semi rifle that fires gyro rocket driven rounds that are mass reactive. Its more of a rocket launcher almost than a rifle and it is the meaning of over kill for most anything even in the world of 40k. I would love to see the look on the mobile infantry soldiers who met an Adeptus Astartes squad killing bugs. Since having the infantry fight the space marines would just be a slaughter and the fact the mobile infantry are humans the space marines would think they are just imperial guard with some pea shooters.

The underbarrel shotgun is an m37 pump action 12ga shotgun and i cant find the point in the original movie where they say its made by beretta, all i can hear is "full-auto morita" when in the commercials the soldiers show the kids the rifles wiche kinda sounds like "full-auto beretta". ive always wondered why they shoot from the hip, and never noticed that the gun does not have iron sights.... which is odd, because these guns seem like they would be suited more for fighting other humans. like when Ace said who needs a knife in a nuke fight, i assume he meant that when fighting other countries/ governments with nukes, all you have to do is push a button. in which the Drill Sergeant told him that the enemy cant push a button if you disable their hands.

Well the same reasoning applies to a nuke fight with bugs. If a bug disables or rips off your hand (or hands), you can't pushy ANY button (whether it's a rifle trigger or nuke button); I think Sgt. Zimm's message was to be resourceful and not be so dependent on technology to win (just like he did at the end when he capture the brain bug).

We never know he capture the Brain Bug in the movie thou. But from the novel, he use the Brain Bug as a meat shield, so the Warrior Bugs had to back off fearing to accidentally shoot the Brain Bug(in the novel, Warrior Bug can shoot out laser).

Are you sure that Beretta is mentioned as the manufacturer in the movie? Only moment I remember in which the rifle is talked about is in one of the news flashes in which an MI trooper says to kids "A fully automatic *Morita*, who wants to hold it?" and kids go "Me, me, me!".

I have been trying for quite some time to find any production information about the name of the rifle. Razcak only mentioned it as a "weapon" , I have doubts that "morita" mentioned in the news flash was the actual name of the rifle. I think it was probably a nickname, possibly ad-libbed by the second unit. I have no production info suggesting that, but I thought that the name may be derived from "merit" as in en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pour_le_Merite - which would make it quite funny - as the society in ST movie was based on giving "automatic merit" to those who served.

Even if the weapon has an integrated targeting relay to a helmet eyepiece, not giving it a standard sight as a backup is silly oversight. Limiting the underslung shotgun to what i can only assume is some kinda shot round is also silly, if i have an 8 gauge barrel i have room for a minature rocket projectile, i have room fire multipurpose projectiles. But if we want to open that can of worms lets ask why everyone is firing the same weapon with minor variations... Maybe they like the high ammo capacity of the Morita so much they dont think a saw or heavier machine gun is needed i can get behind that. Everyone already basically carrying one around. But something like a Mk19(essentially an automatic grenade launcher), or manportable non-nuclear warhead packing bazooka(frag shot? Incendiary?), the variety of weapons they have is tiny and their whole doctine is basically everyone shoot the same round at the targets till they die.(to be fair they do demk some airpower) initially.

The construction looks quite simple to pull off in real life. But the only thing I don't like about it is the lack of standard iron sights. As the narrator stated, most of the troopers use hip fire accuracy. Hip fire accuracy is basically just spraying bullets all over the place. You'll just be wasting precious ammo and can potentially hit someone else by accident.
