This is basically what I needed to see. I like my mobile base for mobility and don't have a shop large enough for a dedicated permanent station.
@Roy-ij1wq3 ай бұрын
Beautiful and I can't wait to make one. One thing I would consider is adding some t-nuts and Allen set screws to be able to fine tune the lip where the extension wings are attached to the saw. Put two t-nuts on the underside of the wing above the angle iron and use the set screws to raise the wing from the top side with an Allen wrench until perfectly mated to the saw. Then secure the wing with the. knobs to hold it in place. You should only have to do this once, but if you end up switching from 3/4 ply to 5/8 for your wings you can easily adjust for the difference. This would also eliminate the need to trim one edge of the aluminum angle and you could even use steel angle.

Love it. I will probably make something like this. I might try to modify the roller legs to be able to hinge for uneven ground.

Good video. I want to build long lightweight wings with a minimal amount of material, and this is a fantastic solution. I don't need the same mobility in my workshop, so I'll fasten the wings directly to the shop stand that the miter saw will be bolted to. It'll be easy enough to break down if I need to relocate. Thanks!

I made one similar about 2 years ago and put out a video as well. I use the DWX726 rolling miter stand with a Dewalt Miter saw. On my saw end I just slip the extension wings over the T-bar on the stand, then lock down the knob underneath. Since I made mine I added the T-tracks for my crown stop too. I made my crown stop so you could still see the angle scale on the saw. I like your addition of the dog holes and the T-track along the back for the stop. If I ever make another set I will use your idea of making the main table out of maple. I used pre-finished 3/4 birch plywood but it has peeled up in one spot where I caught it with a tool. I also like the heavy earth magnets you used for keeping the legs up during transport. Great job and high quality video.

Thanks, John! I've been procrastinating building wings for my miter saw for some time. I've purchased your plans to give me the kick in the butt that I needed!
@jaeyounghan95072 жыл бұрын
This is amazing! One thing I’d add is a bubble level on each removable extension. Also to make them even more reliable as work/assembly table, you could add on the underside some glued cross beams and close the bottom to turn them into torsion boxes. It shouldn’t be a problem to move the legs and other jig holding features onto the bottom panel. The torsion box height could be less than the current side walls or you could make those walls taller such that the attached accessories on the underside can still technically be recessed and not get in the way of the dowel connection. This would add significant weight but would make them much more reliable!
@JohnBuildsIt2 жыл бұрын
There’s no way to level this saw stand itself. It doesn’t need to be level, just flat across. I’ve had beefier wings before but I like this leaner set here much more. I don’t need it to be a heavy duty workbench so this is perfect for what I’m wanting. Good ideas though!

This is AWESOME! I have a similar mobile stand for my Miter Saw and have never liked the extension arms as there is always too much play in the leveling of the ends and more importantly with the "stop" feature on the ends. I have been wanting to come up with something like this since I got my stand and you covered all the bases! I especially like the compactness and how you added the storage details down to even having a magnet hold the knobs when stored away. I will definitely use the magnetic tape measure trick on some of my other jigs. I hate using the pun but "you hit the nail on the head" for me on this one!!!

Thanks John, Hope you make some coin from your links. Got most of my stuff there and from the other guy with a similar thing. I just made this for a dewalt 780. Minor changes. Trying to get that weight down. Built this mainly for the crown stop. This stand is awesome! Works great and I haven't cut crown on the flat in a while. I was never really able to adjust for ceiling height above cabinet doors before this jig. Now its like breathing...Framers gave me a ceiling one inch out of level again? Can't tell.

Nice build John! You may want to stay with the Ridgid miter saw stand. I sold a "fancy" Bosch stand to "upgrade" to the Ridgid stand. Larger wheels 👍 What I also needed is extension platform surfaces, not a material support "point" 😕 We both have this and I'm sure you will never go back. I did mine with no fastening to the mitersaw itself (no screws or knob) or stand, and no support leg, yet with my 5' or 8' wings and material on it, I have no deflection. I read some other praises below and I don't get the fascination with bubble level vials installed. It's all about being in plane with the saw 🤔 Great build!

Problem with the bubble level is the ground your saw will rest upon. If IT’S not perfectly level, your bubble will be useless. Or am I mistaken?
@CCharlesHahn2 жыл бұрын
@@globyois depends... if the saw itself can't be leveled as John suggests with his stand, then you're right there'd be no point in leveling the wings. Ideally you'd be able to level the saw to the ground, then level the wings to match.
