Then suddenly after another meeting with Durandal, Athrun suddenly is labled as a traitor.... I get it, her sister got wrapped up in everything by pure happenstance, but come on! she even had a flashback of that spying mission, she should have at least considered what was said! She should be furious with shin for "killing" her sister, and not just disabling the mobile suit and dragging them back.

According to the novel series, the firepower and defence of Destroy Gundams are without doubt unparalleled, and thus are highly destructive when attacking forts or battleships, but when facing true mobile suits, their bulky bodies are unfortunately a disadvantage. As much as I feel for Shinn, he's so immature. Just because he promised to protect Stella, he's willing to get used like a tool and kill indiscriminately. So far he has killed the captain that saved him, attempted to kill the guy that brought peace the first time, attempted to kill his mentor and friend, countless MS pilots and ship crewmen, enabled his berserk girlfriend to kill and orphan countless civilians. He kills Stella's brother just fine too. He is a good foil to the true protags and it's ok to relate to his pain and suffering, but it does not make him a hero, more a cautionary tale.

Fun fact: Kenichi Suzumura, whose frustrations in playing Shinn here aren't a secret, often confided with Maaya Sakamoto, who he already worked with on Ouran and Advent Children, about it. That's how they got close. Who knew that 20 years between this and reprising Shinn and Luna in a new story, they'd be married. Did that chemistry, when given the chance up to this point, influence the decision for the characters to rashly get together, even in their current low points? Who knows. Will find out in a few days if they actually developed as a ship 2 years on, in-universe.

The Destiny is raw power so it can decimate the Destroys easily with a sword designed to destroy battleships. It struggles against Strike Freedom because it’s almost a hard counter; faster and more accurate. Destiny can only keep up with Freedom using the Wings of Light and as you see in that episode, it uses up too much power.
