Excellent suggestions. What particularly stood out to me was step six. Where you mention how the supporting cast "support" the depiction of the main character...they are facets or reflections of the main character. This was probably the clearest explanation of the purpose of supporting characters I've heard, yet. Thanks. This will really help me with my short films.

That's a structure question. Each one is a turning point in your story and there will be minor and major turning points. Short answer: depends on what you want and what the story needs
